Depends on pricing for me, as I am a solo traveler. I feel that prices will go up for sure. I would like go back to the USA and I also would like to get to Europe.

    OzBargain land

  • Less about travelling and more reuniting with loved ones. The distance is mind boggling.

Lotta weebs in here. I see you!

  • Home to the UK to visit family via Turkey for a few days of R&R and good food.

  • I was supposed to do Everest Base Camp early in 2021 so probably that.

The moment restrictions are lifted, I am flying out of here - anywhere. We have been to 59 countries so we need to make up for lost time.

I am envious that many people in Europe and USA are allowed to be travelling right this minute.

Malaysia - hopefully so that our son can meet his great grand parents :)

  • Damn… Japan is going to be busy!

Tbh, as the child of an ambitious career diplomat and an ex-fiancée of another one, I'm happy to have a valid reason not to live out of a suitcase anymore. I might even start setting roots here, never to leave again. Might even go crazy and get a pet :)

Haven't seen my parents in 2 years and they live in the UK. I'll go as soon as it's possible.

You're assuming that International tourism will resume in our lifetime. That's not actually a given.

    • +2

it will, people love to travel and too much of the global economy is dependent on tourism… the main thing that will stop it from returning is this new cold war

Was meant to have gone to Peru in May, Sri Lanka in September and was planning Central America for Jan/Feb.
Now when borders open I would be thinking to stay in Asia Pacific area and to smaller more 'covid managing' countries - South Korea, Taiwan, Tonga, New Zealand, New Caledonia etc etc if they'll let us in

From what I've heard about Egypt, it's a harsh place for staying.

Just go see the beloved triangles and leave ASAP ..

  • Cook Islands

    Taiwan

  • Back to bed for me

  • I work in the international luxury hospitality segment - I would HIGHLY recommend that people do not consider Japan especially the major cities. COVID is rife in the country and the govt has been very lax about the entire pandemic (some would say incompetent).

My housemates and I have already all had COVID, so we're ready to go whenever we're allowed too, not too bothered :)

As someone who loves staying in international luxury hotels such as Waldorf Astorias and St Regis' lets look at the statistics.

      Up to this point:

Japan has 65,600 confirmed cases (54,100 recovered) with 1,240 deaths - their population 126 million.

Australia has 25,500 confirmed cases (20,500 recovered) with 580 deaths - our population 25 million.

It looks like Japan is doing OK with a population five times the size of Australia, with a slightly more older (and more vulnerable) population living who are often living in much more confined spaces.

Yes, I would expect Japan to get on top pretty quick considering their law abiding culture

I had many Qantas pilots telling me that maintenance is lax all over Asia including Japan. They would refuse to sit on a JAL plane, rating just after Garuda. Flying Jetstar is ok. Their health attitude while paranoid one needs good travel insurance. Hotels are clean but backstreet bars in the southern part remain risky. Anything north of Tokyo seems more serious including lovely Hokaido. Sweden and the UK went for herd immunity. The US is trying but remains a basket case.

The suicide forests of Japan will give you more honor…

  • Poland. Promised my friend I would visit her if we survive covid, then to Czech and Slovakia (to see if their internet is faster than ours)

  • Maldives

  • really depends on what flight pricing is looking like, as much as i would like to go to Japan(had to cancel my first trip there due to COVID), I expect a long SE-Asia adventure will be the better choice, thinking start in BKK > 2 weeks in Isan region > 2 weeks in Lao > slow boat it to Chiang Mai > check out pai > than maybe a week on the islands and a week or 2 in Malaysia… (i have a lot of holiday leave)

    • Sounds like a good plan enjoy

  • The US after Trump's guaranteed election win in November.

I figure it'll be a once-in-a-life time opportunity to stock up on several decades worth of salt.

Pre-COVID Was thinking of RTW business class trip including stops in US, Europe, Asia before bub turns 2. He’s just about 1. I guess we’ll have to modify that plan. At least a bunch of business class passengers have been saved from possible screaming child (though the one flight he took he didn’t cry at all and doesn’t generally).

Probably looking at Tassie and WA now, and maybe a NZ ski trip next year if Japan isn’t an option sooner.

Well, I'm in UK right now. Will be off to NL next week, then Germany, Italy and eventually off to Spain to ride out the Autumn.

Certainly not in a hurry to return to AU for the time being!

6 months in Portugal across a European Summer.

    Grampians, Wilsons Prom, Cairns.

  • I might go to the big shops after all this blows over. And start hooking up with international travelers again.

  • The love for Australia is great and encouraging to see! Hopefully we can use some of the money that would otherwise be used overseas to kickstart our own tourism again, hopefully makes it more local and help them out.

several places. But I will start with the place I had to cancel, Japan. Later will go to Scandinavia, then continental europe.

I'm anticipating it to get expensive when travel resumes though. Flights in particular.

Does anyone else on here plan their holidays around where the deals are? I'm pretty sure I've booked 75% of my last 20 holidays around Ozbargain posted flight deals.

    • You've been on 20 holidays?! Sheesh

  • +3

Totally booking flights to Singapore for some binge eating the day I'm allowed to.
