Waitress refused to change my order even though I am just order more of the same thing

I went to this restaurant today at lunch time at 1.10 pm , I was served by a waitress. I ordered 12 pork and prawn dumplings for $13.80 and some other dishes.

They have opening special price of 10 dumplings for $8.

After my food was served, I asked if I can get another 8 pork and prawn dumplings, so that I can get 20 dumpling for $16 instead of 12 dumpling for $13.80, taking advantage of the special price.

This is a pretty reasonable request, I was not asking for a refund or cancelling, I am buying additional food.

But the girl waitress, did everything in her power to deny me that request. She said she can not do that because she has already put the order into the system, that she has no way to modify my order once it has been entered into their system, I asked her if there is anyone in the restaurant that can help her to change my order, she said no, she would have to call her boss and it would be all much hassle to just save me a few bucks, literally her words. I was absolutely horrified at that comment and decided not to pursue my request and finish the meal and not come back as a return customer, apparently as a first time customer, I am a hassle and annoyance instead of a customer to her and I am apparently not worth her time and effort.

I have never been to any restaurant where once the order is in the system, it can not be changed or overridden by anyone in the restaurant.

She suggested I make another order of 10 dumpling for $8, instead of 8 dumpling for additional $2.20 ($8x2-$13.80) as I requested. She made no attempts to ask her colleagues or her superior if there is a way to modify my order or any way to help me. Pretty much just get your business with as least amount of service/effort as possible.

For those work in restaurant, is it true that once a order is in the system, before customer pay, waitress can't update the order?

      • Thank jv, this is the first non aggressive/abusive response to my post.

        I wasn't angry at she not able to change my order, I was angry at the fact that she didn't make any effort in helping me, saying that it is too much of a hassle to help me change an order.

        I just wanted to know those who work in restaurant with those ipad menu thing, it is really impossible to delete or charge an order before it is finalised and paid?

          • @jv: Nope, not paid, was like 5 minutes into my meal. Like her politely if could have another 8 dumplings on top of what I have ordered.

      • It's pretty offensive for someone so concerned about ethnicity to be using a Reichskriegsflagge as their avatar.

        • I find it interesting that they always seems make the issue as the others fault, and not an issue that it's their's. Ie PetBarn. If you know already on purchase of the item that it is higher than what you normally pay wouldn't you question that before the purchase. Saying you are a foreigner is not an excuse. Odd person and glad he hasn't been to my parent's shop.
