Would it be good for deep frying some chicken and having a glass of Louis XIII with coke?

    Thanks OP, Bought 4!!

Of all the things that never happened, this never happened the most.

  • Honest question - what’s the appeal here?

    • +2

To show how rich you are

For cooking probably a waste. But if it was to drizzle over salad or to do it the italian way with some bread then it probably brings some nice aromas.

        drizzle over salad

Perfect for that reduce priced bag of mixed salad at Coles.

      • OzBargainers don't eat salad.

A six nuggets and a drumstick are salad.

Big macs and whopper burgers have lettuce. Thats salad.

If you've tasted both fresh and rancid olive oils you'll notice that most store-bought olive oils are somewhere on the road to decline (esp. imported oils), so I see the appeal to getting stuff that's picked and pressed very recently. The Cobram Estate oils in the major supermarkets usually seem to be last year's harvest.

In theory it should be better quality because the early fruit will be less likely to be damaged or spoiled, but I don't see that being as much of a factor as it just being fresh.

That said, at this price you could get a 500mL single-variety olive oil delivered from one of the smaller estates around Australia and I'd find that more interesting.

Great answer. Top olive oil is fantastic. Just like top anything else!

This deal is a great reminder to not buy one of those 3 litre cans that are often on special at the moment so they can offload last year's vintage.

The new regular ones will be out next month.

You can get a pretty good price on single varietal olive oil from Mount Zero. Good aussie business and they sell their oil in a goonbag, which is actually a great way to keep both light and oxygen out, even though it doesn't look very fancy. The arbequina and frantoio, currently for sale at $32 and $29.50 respectively for 2L, are from the 2020 harvest. I've got the arbequina at home and its very tasty.

Thanks for the tip! I've ordered some frantoio.

    • Here we go again. A blind taste test always sorts out this nonsense

Clear bottle, unless it has UV coating the olive oil is probably oxidized.

    • At $30 it appears to come sealed in a box….

      • Comes in the box, but the bottle itself is pretty clear.

  • What is the difference of this and $4.5 half price one at Coles?

  • +2

Let's face it, most of its value is in the packaging. Cobram is nice and I use about 3L a month but I doubt this would be as much better as the price. I'm sure there's a market fo it.

  • So this is how the other half live, huh.

  • Great when fresh, but not so premium anymore when it's six months old.
