Not a stupid question at all and I have often wondered this myself with competitions.
I would think not but I WISH you could so I could stop getting so much spam…

You can always set up a dedicated email account for competitions or use a +filter in gmail eg [email protected]. Then all your competition email goes into a box you don't have to look at every day. I notice more and more services support this +filtering these days too.
The question is how do they contact you if you win? If it's by phone, all good, if it's by email it makes things harder since you actually have to trawl through that at some point.
It's safer to stay subscribed until it's all over. I have one email acct for competitions & shopping and a separate one for personal/business mail. in reality, the frequent wading through of crap ids unavoidable.
fwiw, generally I scan through the former at least once per week unless I've entered something with a 48-72hr notification period. Every few months I go through an unsubscribe from senders older than 4mths as I rarely enter competitions with a >3mth closing date.
The sensible thing to do would be to use a client with decent filters - instead of webmail, and use keywords to have it set off alerts you to win notifications.
Check the T&C's if they notify by email then you can't win if you have unsubscribed
Thanks so much
If you unsubscribe BEFORE the competition is drawn then your entry is ILLEGIBLE, NULL & VOID. IF I get replies usually ARCHIVE entries check dates then AFTER comp finishes WAIT TO SEE, IF, they have 2ND CHANCE DRAW then UNSUBSCRIBED AFTER THESE DATES NOT B4 doing so. Esp entries done via Twitter & Instagram. GoodLuck! CONGRATS 2 ALL the LuckyWinners, Cheers!
For the mountain of comps I enter, that is a TONNE of time consuming work…I like the idea The Hawk came up with and might get around to setting that up if/when the spam becomes unbearable enough to warrant the effort but thanks for your suggestion.
What do you reckon would happen if you won and had NO plans to build/renovate … they do stipulate you MUST take the prize in its entirety and if used on a new build/renovation the house must be in the winners name - so you cant even resell/gift it…
I'm only interested in the cash :)
Didn't know about the mail+ thing - That's a good idea.
I also have a mynetphone account going to old fashioned answering machine.
I use this landline number for forms. Cuts out on phone spam as well.
This might be a really stupid question, but if you enter and then unsubscribe are you still a chance to win?
