But does it have built in colander so I can strain my rice before I rinse it again?

      That is the pro version.

    • I'm reading your comment with Uncle Roger's voice.

  • kinda wish I waited because this doesn't really steam vegetables well and the rice cooker is so big it can barely fit in the microwave (I can't even take the lid of without taking it out) or the cupboard for that matter..

I have both this Decor one and the Sistema Microwave Rice Steamer 2.6L. They are about the same size but after trying both prefer the Sistema one as it cooks the rice quicker and does just as good a job.

      • I concur. I can't comment on cooking vegetables in it but for rice the Sistema one is better and is actually the smaller of the two.

        • Oh well in that case maybe it is better I got that one. Never need anywhere near the amount of rice it can hold though. Thanks for your input :)

      • +1 - the Sistema has a double-lid to steam with, makes a big difference for rice. My problem is my locals haven't been stocking the Sistema so I can buy a backup :-(

  • Bought some of these at Woolies when they have half price all Decor stuff

The best microwave rice cooker I had I gave to my nephew because I thought I could, easily, replace it. More fool me.

To me you need the a rice cooker which has the water return section, a steamer basket, and the turn lock lid.

A lot I’ve seen are missing some these things and the one we have one has steam holes in the top that send gluggy water out the top so we need to remember to put a plate under it.

I would look for one like the below. I do have Prime but I need to find something else to get free shipping.

Cooking rice like this should be a sin

    • We aren’t all as fussy as others. I grew up WASP in the ‘60s so rice was mainly used for rice puddings. I’m quite partial to gluggy, overcooked rice.

Steps for white long grain rice

    1. Measure 2 cups of rice & add to cooker. Add 4 cups of cold water and stir. Makes 4 serves
    2. Microwave on high for 17 minutes without the lid.
    3. Remove from microwave and put lid on with vent open. Rest for 5 minutes. Loosen grains with rice paddle and serve.

This is very different from the Sistema rice cooker which requires the use of both the inner plate and the outer lid during cooking.
