Low Back Couches Vs High Back Couches

Greetings,

I replaced my old 3+2 seater lounge with a modular chaise style lounge about 3 years ago - something like this https://www.furniturebazaar.com.au/lounges/modular-and-chais…

It's really great for laying down and watching a movie and even having a snooze on. But more and more I am finding that I am getting back and neck ache because it promotes such poor posture and it's even quite difficult to sit with good posture on it.

So I am thinking of reverting back to a conventional high back style sofa or finding a high back modular. Looking around I don't see a lot of high back sofas or modular lounges. I presume they are all short back now so they can pack them in shipping containers.

I was wondering if anyone had experienced the same issues and had any suggestions?

Thanks.

  • Definitely.
There are much lower back couches than that around, and they seem so impractical. They might look good in a small city apartment or something. I always go for a high back couch, and preferably one that has a reclining feature and footrest. La-Z-Boy make plenty of nice couches with high backs.

  • We bought an Archer https://www.nickscali.com.au/products/lounges/archer-4108-2 From Nickscali. Not sure if the height of the back is what you are after. But we can go low or high and it has the roll out footrest. Reclines.

  • My ikea couch has a headrest addition which is excellent.

We have been thinking about getting one of these from Costco but the stores are full of summer stock. Has anyone bought one and, if so, do they recommend it. I can’t figure how far down the recliner goes.

    I know it’s a Hail Mary but I thought I would ask.

  • Thanks everyone, beween the nick scali, ikea and la-z-boy website, that gives me a good starting point to look around.

There are a few options better that what I have but still keen to find something with a bit more of a vertical backrest.

Maybe mounting my t.v. higher may help.

    Cheers.
