Should Mods Close Threads Just Because They Are Asked?

I was following a forum topic today about a dryer with water in it, and OP asked for it to be closed because they thought they had received a version of a solution.

But I wanted to add a comment because Ihad more thoughts on the topic. Others may have had authoritative info to still provide, and I feel the post was closed too soon.

My question is, should mods be closing topic posts without a compelling reason?

  • It depends on the topic.

In this case, OP was looking for an answer and it was not a discussion so I think it is fair.

I too thought it was strange that a factory tested a dryer. I have bought a few of these things and it was never "tested".

  • Whether or not a thread is closed is on a case by case basis. As tshow said, the OP asked a question, the OP found an answer, the OP requested closing of comments and the request was accepted.

I think you would be able to PM the OP directly if you wanted to provide further info to them.

I’m also a tad suss on the “testing” answer.

You do, always, have an option to open your own discussion.

Should mods disable use of bold. Yes.

That would send JV straight to the ICU.
