Best All in One Maintenance Product for Windows Laptop

Hi all.
I have just bought a new Windows laptop and want to install a maintenance program to keep it running well. I am not a computer guru by any means. I am looking for one of those 'one click' programs that will remove junk, provide anti virus protection and update drivers etc. so that my laptop does not clag up over time and run slowly. There's a few out there to choose from, so I was just hoping that others with real world experience might be able to recommend something.
Cheers…

You don't really need those kind of programs, they'll only slow you computer down. Just get Windows Security Essentials and keep Windows Update turned on if you really want.

    • Windows Defender is already built into Windows 10. I'd say Ccleaner will be useful for cleaning up cache for web browsers and registry errors.

Shouldn't let third party software modify registry (saying that I have used Ccleaner but don't think I will anymore due to privacy concerns).

        • Ive been using CCleaner as well for years. Should I avoid this? Is it still worth using for registry errors etc?

            @Indie: https://helpdeskgeek.com/free-tools-review/why-you-shouldnt-…

Windows has tools and settings that 'clean' your disk. Ccleaner is just a one-stop shortcut for all of those..

registry cleaning is something people should never try to perform unless there is a pre-existing issue in which case googling for a direct fix is usually the way to go if you want to solve a specific software problem. Microsoft advises against the use of reg cleaners

registry cleaning is not necessary, and not even back in Windows XP days. See Wikipedia entry on Metrics of performance benefit.
The windows registry doesn't need you to defrag it either, it's literally just a hierarchical database containing a bunch of configuration settings and Windows knows well enough when to optimise it.

  • What brand laptop?

Some laptops come with a manufactures driver update program and driver updates can be done automatically in Windows Update or from the manufacturers website.

Windows Security is free and built in to Windows 10.

Install the latest version of Windows from here and run Windows update when finished.

Welcome to 2020, the standard windows update does SO MUCH MORE

The programs you are talking about are one of the things that slow your computer down, waste of time

Windows update will do everything you need to keep things working and it's built in security centre is fine.

If you dont go installing garbage apps like Norton you won't have any problems.

Thanks all. Windows security it is. It's only a $700 DELL, so nothing flash. Good to know I don't have to spend any more money to keep it running well. Cheers.

Click on the search bar and type Dell Support Assist or Support Assist. This program updates Dell drivers, BIOS and firmware.
