I remember when NBA 2K use to hold its value well… they got greedy and this is what happens I suppose. It’s still a fun game if you’re not bothered by online, but be prepared to grind or pay up if you want to get anywhere online.

    GreenManGaming has it for $4.76:

    • Solid price if not using steam funds.

    • Thanks, bought one.

Does anyone know how well this will perform for Gamestream from my PC to the Nvidia Shield.

    • I don't have a Nvidia card (no game stream) or a Shield (have a Vodafone TV) so make of this what you will. My understanding is the performance is very similar nowadays.

Pretty decent experience with Steam Link, works much better latency-wise wired than wireless regardless of how good the connection is. There is a bit of input lag but I think you get used to it pretty quick. Going from PC to streaming and back can be jarring though because you adapt to the latency and suddenly everything feels off.

      • It's it just mirroring your PC?

        • I imagine it does some fancy stuff under the hood, but essentially yeah.

    • I've streamed it to my PC and it plays fine. No lag or stuttering, it's as if it was playing from the Shield.

Pretty much the same for all the games I've streamed. It's a great bonus of a owning a Nvidia card and a Nvidia shield.

  • probably this price for a reason… but even then its not much more than a coffee or a beer so can't go too wrong if you're interested in it

Best review on Steam of the game:

    10/10
They put a basketball minigame in one of the best gambling simulator game on steam!

  • Bought this game for $20 a few months ago. It's great, but I can't for the life of me get it to display the correct PS4 buttons on screen when playing. It shows xbox buttons, which makes it confusing. If anyone knows how to solve this I'd be very grateful.
    Great game for 5 bucks!

    • +4

If you have the "PS4 Controller Config Support" Steam option enabled, Steam treats your DS4 like a Steam controller, and so you get Steam controller buttons. If you disable that option within your Steam settings PS4 buttons should appear.

Not worth it for free, predatory microtransaction laden trash.

    • -2

Who would be forcing you to pay?

      • +14

It's reasonable to criticise a product for its flaws even though no-one is 'forcing' you to do anything, isn't it?

      • Poop just realized I selected the associated button

    • Well, in fairness, if it was actually free then they could probably justify the microtransactions since that's the standard monetisation model for free to play games. The truly egregious thing with these NBA 2K games is that they're full priced, retail products that then have the F2P style microtransactions ON TOP of the retail price. They need to pick one or the other, because trying to do both is bullsh*t, even when the game is on sale like this.

  • +4

Only 48% Steam rating. Looks like one to avoid.

    • That's from people outraged over micro-transactions and lootboxes, none of which really affect gameplay that much.

It's not a fantastic game, but it's good enough……. especially at this price.

      • +1

True but other games have also felt similar outraged without the low ratings (I.e. Middle Earth Shadow of War or Battlefront II)

        • Didn't those other games you mentioned pull the loot boxes etc out later on after the outcry? I wonder if their ratings improved after that - it would be interesting to see a comparison of the ratings before and after they ditched the loot boxes and microtransactions.

  • Thanks, $5 sounds like a decent time to give it ago

  • +12

Riddled with microtransactions. A disgrace to the gaming industry. Worthy of a neg. But rules being rules that doesn't constitute a neg vote.

    However it's cheaper here.

    • +7

Issue with product is a valid reason to neg

    • -4

But rules being rules that doesn't constitute a neg vote

So you negged it anyway. It has several advertisements for optional microtransaction. No one is making you buy them.

      • +1

No-one is making him/her not criticise the game, either. I was mildly interested in this until a couple of people here helpfully pointed out that it's microtransaction bait.

        • +1

Everyone is entitled to their opinion on the product, I only questioned the warant for the neg despite stating neg rules.

Bait implies it was a secret or hidden trap. If you click on the link you can clearly see the optional microtransactions on the home page. A simple click shows this.

      • +1

Without paying for the microtransactions, your ability to progress and advance through single-player modes are completely gimped to the point of being almost impossible 2000+ hour long grinds per feature. That's not paying for extra skins, MTX or bonus things - you literally have to pay to unlock basic features and abilities in the single-player modes of the game.

Sadly the only way to actually play the game in it's most basic form with all the functions of the base game enabled is to pirate it and then run it modded or with Cheat Engine enabled.

        • -1

What basic features do you need to pay for exactly? I haven't paid a cent, haven't put in 2000+ hours, and I'm doing just fine

  • +2

Single player has pretty reasonable gameplay. I'd get it for that price.

The career mode is pretty cool. Just make sure you get in some practice before you invest the time otherwise you'll likely get stuck as a bench player in a pretty ordinary team!

Otherwise, it's definitely built for the microtransactions. Reeeeally grindy gameplay to built your skills.

  • "Cheapest price its ever been"

    Well thats a lie.

    • +1

      On steam - corrected.

    • Quick. Call the cops!!!

  • If I'm just looking to play single player, is it decent?

    • Yes

    • Yea I bought the ps4 version just for single player. Doing like one or 2 games against bots, its pretty relaxing I'd say

  • Great! thanks alot!

  • This is a fantastic purchase for the price. Not everyone buys the game for the career.

I'd pay this price just for updated rosters XD.

I personally just play myGM and make good teams, play the occasional game here and there.

    80gb download though :(

I put this in my Steam cart last night and decided to just get it in the morning. It was $5.20 AU.

Wake up today and it was gone from my cart and now the AU conversion price is $5.60. What an expensive sleep.

  • Hard to find people to play online

  • I won't lie, this game does have microtransactions and yes they are cash grabs, such as the norm with most games these days, especially sports games. But I think some people are exaggerating. Here's what you can spend money on.

MyTeam Packs - MyTeam is the mode where you can get your favourite players and put them on a team and play against other players or the computer, each player has different cards, with varying degrees of rarity, and as the rarity gets better, the player gets better. To get packs you either need to get MT Coins or VC, both attainable by microtransactions, or by playing the game. However, I have a pretty good team and I have never spent money on the game, only claimed free codes for packs, unfortunately since 2K20 is reaching the end of its lifecycle, there aren't gonna be any new ones. Use 2k.io/nba-2k20-locker-codes/ to see which are still active

MyPlayer attributes, animations and appearance - When starting a new my player, every attribute (3pt shooting, driving dunk, ball handle etc) is low, with your overall rating being 60. As you play through the MyCareer, you will get VC and you can then use VC to upgrade attributes, and achieve the goal of getting your MyPlayer to 99 OVR. Sure, you can just buy VC and upgrade to 99 quickly, but that does take the fun out of it. Part of the game is the grind to 99 which I personally don't mind so much, it gives you and objective. Sure it's really hard to play online and even at the start of MyCareer as a 60 OVR but it gets better, and I have friends who are 99 OVR and haven't spent money. Additional jumpshot, size up and dribble move (as well as some celebrations but those are unnecessary) animations are available for VC, but are usually cheap and you really only need jumphot 98 and the Allen Iverson size up package from my experience. You can also customise your MyPlayer with shoes, and outfits which are very expensive at times. My advice, leave em alone, you can get some shoes for free if you get them from the daily spin, or discounted through contracts and some clothes are free. Once you get your MyPlayer to 99 you can spend money on clothes.

Final Statement: Yes this game has cash grab elements to it, but you can still play and enjoy the game for the 5 dollars you spent on it. 2K21 comes out on Septmeber 4th but this game will still have a decent player base, as a lot of people don't buy the next game, mostly because it's a carbon copy of the last game. For 5 dollars you really can't complain too much and there's a lot of content with MyTeam, MyCareer, MyLeague, MyGM and Play Now which is great if you have friends over once this lockdown expires. It's 5 bucks, you'll enjoy it.

  • People just wanna let you know that that NBA 2K21 is coming around the corner (somewhere in october/November) and that'll only give you a couple of months to play this game online.

When it goes offline, many modes will not work/have missing features in those modes so even though it's $5, think about how much you're gonna play this game before buying it.

This game has gone for free and/or at a very low price in the last months, so that 2K gets everyone on the grind and make them buy those sweet myTeam cards but this is still a good price if you're willing to play in the last couple of months it'll survive being offline.

No, the servers for 2K20 will most likely go until the end of next year or so, just like the servers for 2019 will close at the end of this year/beginning 2021 and the servers for 2K18 closed at the the beginning of this year. That's how it's been for all of them in recent years.

      • Ahh cool cool, i remember the servers being closed in the early years when a new game arrived, at least it's nice of Take-Two to keep those servers open for a while.
