We need to replace our cat's scratching post and been waiting for this to drop in price. Grabbing the description from one of the previous posts:

Cats need a scratching post that will allow them to get a full stretch. The 32" (81cm) post height allows the cat to stretch vertically while using the post. The finest materials and workmanship guarantee the scratching post will remain attractive and useful for years.

Not much else to say about this. Our current scratching post is similar but lighter and tends to topple a bit when the cats jump on it, but this one from reviews seems sturdy/heavy enough for the cats to jump onto it without it moving. I'll also be sticking some carpet to the top of it for grip.

Wouldn't advise buying this without prime though as its ~8kg and would cost a heap to ship overseas!

Price likely to fluctuate due to Amazon's systems so I wouldn't expect it to be this price for long.

[Update 1] Stock now showing available 23rd August, but still allowing orders.
[Update 2] Amazon is defaulting to Amazon US seller now, choose Amazon UK to get the lower price.
[Update 3] Now showing "Usually dispatched within 1 to 2 months". Considering this backorder.
[Update 4] No longer available with Prime so shipping costs kill the deal. Marked as expired for now!

Very good price. I paid $90 for it a few months back and it was worth it. Built really well and my cat loves it.

    • Can't wait til mine arrives! I think my current one is a knockoff of this post, so I'm hoping its better quality, although my current one has lasted 1+ years.

We need to replace our cat's scratching post

    Why? Do they wear out?

    • +3

Yep! the sisal rope.. pad (no idea what its called) has worn out. After a while, the rope starts to tear / not be effective and it needs to be replaced. In our case, since the current post isn't that great quality, we just decided to replace the whole post. In the future may replace the sisal on the post.

      • +1

I bought 100m of sisal rope off ebay to redo the shredded rope on my cat tower, think it was around 30$. Got thicker diameter so hopefully lasts longer, plenty spare for the future.

great post. have 2 cats and they love it. you can also buy a perch to sit ontop. seems like it will last years

    • +2

you can also buy a perch to sit ontop

Won't it annoy the cat if you're sitting on it?

      • Payback to the cats

  • +1

That's a cracking deal, I definitely paid more a few years ago and it still looks like new with regularly scratching! Very high quality. Our cat also likes to perch on top, which is no probs with the sturdy base.

  • +1

Great just in time. My cat has just clawed a cheaper one I got into oblivion.

  • Great scratching post for cats getting into scratching.

  • great buy. tempted to grab this as a backup for when the first wears out

  • According to camelcamelcamel, this was selling for $630.49 last Xmas…

So $54.53 looks like an OK price…

    • +5

91% off deserves an upvote right? ;)

  • Surely this costs more than $50 to ship from the UK?! Amazon is mind boggling sometimes.

    • +4

Indeed - without Prime it is $94.79 delivery to me.

    • +2

They removed Prime eligibility now, just a mistake.

      • i ordered mine at 10:41 AM at got prime. when was it removed?

        • I suppose between 10:42am and 11:19am :) The whole UK listing actually got removed in the end.

  • +1

    Bought - thanks OP.

    • -1

You just pushed the price up by $30…

      • I think its still available if you change seller from Amazon US to UK

        • +1

Yes just need to click on “other sellers” and UK seller will show up. Ordered, thanks OP
Edit: got our first kitten two days back, great timing. The one we bought is not tall enough even though she’s a kitten still.

          • -5

            @WhatsTheBigDeal:

even though she’s a kitten still.

            What is a kitten still?

You don't boil kittens do you !!!!!

  • My cats stopped scratching the lounge since getting this post. At this price I'll be buying another to put in a different room

    • i just did the same thing.

This is a ridiculously good price.

  • Anyone after a cheap option these cardboard waves from Kmart are great: https://www.kmart.com.au/product/cat-scratcher-wave/2670816

5 bucks, they last quite a long time and the cat loves them.

    • agreed my two siberians love them!

    • I have this as well, however my cats always tip it over and get scared - any advice?

      • Are you laying it flat on the ground?

        • +1

Yep, they seem to like to press on the bit of the wave that sticks up, then it flips up and they run away. Are my cats just too uneducated?

          • +1

@frogduck: I'll ask my cat if she's interested in running a scratching course. 😄

          • @frogduck: Needs a bit more weight by the sound of it.

            • @Elyxar: Likely - I might try tie it down or something. They like it but it moves too much for them.

        • You could always attach it to a Catnip box like mine: https://ibb.co/HF5nXGc
I grow fresh catnip and the bear (https://ibb.co/TwfnYqd) likes going crazy in the box with it, then goes for a scratch. He has a couple other scratching posts/trees about his mansion.

we have one of these and my cat hasn't figured out that she can scratch her claws on them. how do i teach her?!

      • +1

I rubbed my cats paws on it and after a few days she was using it.

      • I just put one on the floor and the cat started going to town on it almost instantly. Maybe your and frogduck's cats need to go to scratching school 😄

        • Yep, one of mine especially is not 100% there :D

      • A few things to try - use your own nails on it with your cat nearby, the sound should trigger instinct. Next try rubbing some catnip into it. Putting your cats paws and claws on it may be a more paws on approach if necessary.

Thanks for posting. Having been waiting for it to drop to $64 again…this is even better.

    • I was doing the same and was pleasantly surprised when it showed up at this price on my wishlist!

      • Can you set up alerts for prices drops on wishlist items?

        • You can set up alerts on camelcamelcamel (Haven't used the other website) for individual items, which generally work quite well. I didn't set up one for this though, just happened to look at my wishlist this morning and it was at this price.

          • @frogduck: Ah ok thanks. Yeah I use camel as well, but often find that it doesn't detect some prices. EG: it didn't note that this was $64 in March.

  • +1

Thanks OP - bought two, one for each kitty.

Does anybody have any experiences with the perch that is sold separately? https://www.amazon.com.au/SmartCat-Perch-Ultimate-Scratching…

  • It says not eligible for Amazon Prime for me (from the UK).

    • Ah looks like parties over! They probably picked up on shipping costs

    • Yeap party is over.

We have two similar to this, we have the ball thingy at the bottom, and our cats don’t use them as scratching posts, but they do like, jumping between them, sitting on them or using them to launch themselves to the upper reaches of our ikea cat hacks. We screwed on a square of carpet to stop them sliding off.

Our kitties prefer carpet scratching posts.

They are very well made and quite solid.

    • Sounds like my situation. The cats use our current post with a carpeted top to launch on top of our ikea shelf converted cat tree, so planning on putting a carpet on top of this one for that reason.

funny that, saw this one and was going to post at lunch time, been watching the US version at $81 for a while and jumped on this. need something to protect my eames aeron office chair urgently !!!!!!

    • eames rip

  • Has anyone had any luck flipping the pole vertically to double the life?

    • I was reading a review that said you can, but haven't got mine yet so can't provide too much comment.

  • Darn.. I was after one for a dumb cat.

  • +1

Managed to get one. Been on the hunt for ages. Thanks OP!

    • +1

Now? Didn't this expire hours ago

  • Does this work for dogs

    • I don't think dogs would use it - Cats use scratching posts to maintain their claws by natural instinct.

  • +1

Cant believe I missed this :(((((

  • still not received, says end of september

    • Mine arrived a couple days ago but I assume I was one of the earlier orders. I understand amazon uk and us have big delays at the moment.

      • Cats enjoy it?

        • Cats love it! Although it just replaced their other similar scratcher they use lots. This one is much sturdier though.

  • I found 28" for $50ish, ranked around #63

I wonder what the quality difference are

  • +1

finally arrived, huge and looks great quality, good value for money. Arrived with DHL which would have cost amazon a fortune. feline's not into it yet…will take some time.
