This book is about the American moon-landings – and about the doubts expressed ever since concerning the reality of these landings. Were the images of men on the moon really just a huge and cleverly executed hoax? Eversberg explains the best-known claims and conspiracy theories, and analyses the evidence with the help of detailed full-colour images, as well as numerous film documents that can be accessed directly from the book. He addresses both the persistent older claims and more recently devised doubts.

The book will inform and entertain a wide range of readers interested in space exploration and tells a gripping story covering physics, politics and history.

      The moon is real, yes

    • "Were the images of men on the moon really just a huge and cleverly executed hoax?"

They were planning on faking it, then realised how much effort that would be and just did it for real.

      • Absolutely correct. They would not have had the technology to fake the moon landings. Also, I’m sure the Russians would’ve been on board covering up the hoax.

However, I do think that the thing on Trump’s head is an alien; it would explain a lot of things.

      • The problem in the USA is the military-industrial complex that relies on government lobbying (corruption) to generate money.

      • +5

Yeah it's like airplanes. Seriously millions of years of existence and suddenly we can fly? Yeah right

      • +3

Lol.. We went from calculators and typewriters in the 70s to full smart phones, laptops and more computing power than ever in history within 40 years and it's in everyone's hands. All of this stuff must be fake according to your logic too. You're just dreaming of using your smartphone to access Ozbargain because humans couldn't have all done this within half a life time.

    • +5

They landed six times for a total of twelve astronauts.

        • +8

I'm done with this convo. You're up there with anti-vaxxers and flat earthers.

            • +3

@drazenm: This is what I admire about people like you. You always manage to come out of debates looking like total idiots but feeling like the smartest people in the world! Does your hand ever get tired from patting yourself on the back?

          • -1

@Ryanek: Their not anti there informed and there not flat earth eta there informed oh an rona is a myth

            • +7

@Dex38313: That's one hell of a difficult sentence to read. Please learn how to spell. You got the same word wrong 4 times 2 different ways!

And I really can't tell if you're just a troll or not.

    • Have you seen how dead the nightlife is on the moon? You can't get a decent drink and there's no live bands. Nobody is going there because it's a dud entertainment venue.

      • +1

Carefully shot to keep people away. If they pulled back a bit you would’ve seen the resort with the pool bar and the dance floor. Where do you think Michael Jackson got his “moonwalking” moves from? Hot vacation spot for the elite, but they don’t want it crowded out by the plebs.

      • TIL the moon is Sydney

  • +11

It is harder to go to the moon when it is not 100%. And people will fall off it when it is a new moon. It is hard work.

The sun on the other hand, is always there. Let’s go there instead of the moon.
We have to go at night so it is not so hot.

    • +2

What's the point, when they land on the sun everyone will call that a hoax too!

      • +2

why go as far as sun? i told me mates i landed on some hot chicks last night and they said it's a hoax.

  • +1

It is worth watching the The Vintage Space channel by Amy Shira Teitel.

    • +2

her book Breaking the Chains of Gravity: The Story of Spaceflight Before NASA is a great read if your into that stuff. i dare say it's a little more factual than the book this post is about

  • -5

There is not much to say that has not already been exposed in the French documentary "Dark Side of the Moon".
It is suppressed by mainstream media, but shows up on SBS occasionally.

"This award-winning film exposes how Stanley Kubrick faked the 1969 moon landing, featuring interviews from many key players in NASA."

    short version here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSDkUX_fzew

    • +5

Expected a rick roll but what I got was an even better troll.

    • +7

The only problem being is that dark side of the moon is a mockumentary not a documentary.
      https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0344160/

      • The problem is that my joke mis-fired.
I over estimated the crowd, and did not count on so many people down voting even though they had no clue what the show was.

        Irony people!!

    • +5

The first time this aired on SBS it was on April 1st… which was not a coincidence.

    • +1

Something's not right, SBS are mainstream media.

      • +1

Yes that was one of the hints 😁

  • +2

Wonder where they got the moon rocks from or how they hoaxed the live radio broadcasts back to the many receiving stations around the planet at the time. Probably easier to just land and be done with it. The other thing is that there will be plenty of evidence on the moon when they manage to get back there as their foot prints aint going anywhere along with all the gear left behind over the several landings. :-)

    • where they got the moon rocks from or how they hoaxed the live radio broadcasts back

There are numerous meteorites of lunar origin. And there were only a few places capable of receiving transmissions, such as the 26m dish as Honeysuckle Creek. Either a few crew there were in on the conspiracy, or NASA had a small unmanned lunar orbiter.

:-) Don't get hung up arguing each detail. It is the collective effort of putting it all together, the hundreds of thousands of people involved, mostly civilian, that would make a fraud a far more amazing achievement than actually going there.

  • +5

NASA has a satellite "Reconnaissance" orbiting the moon, the Apollo 11 Moon Landing Site can be seen in Unprecedented Detail plus hardware that was left behind.
There is also third-party evidence by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency. Not only did NASA go to the moon they brought 382kg of it back with them.

  • +2

Also, SpaceX they are just new age zeplins with rockets. Looks great, but basic tech scam

  • -6

(profanity) this "book". (profanity) idiots not having a (profanity) clue.

    • +4

The author is an astrophysicist. There is a question mark in the title.

By deductive reasoning, I believe you may have the wrong idea about the book.

      • +6

Giving any voice to moon-hoaxers, rat-lickers, anti-vaxxers and pro-plaguers is bullshit.

        • +1

Unfortunately damned if you do and damned if you don’t. To a certain degree it is like a wound; one exposed to the air, that you treat, is better than one festering under the surface that erupts in a huge hole. Unfortunately you can’t help stupid. The real problem is when the people, who should know better, are part of the problem rather than part of the solution.

          • @try2bhelpful: That’s what they said when trump got elected

            • +1

@[Deactivated]: Yeah, unfortunately there was just too much stupid happening. In this case they saw the wound and decided to pick at it to make it worse.

        • +3

There should be no room for bs like this on OzB

        • -3

Sorry but most people need to hear the truth especially in regards to the new flu

          • +1

@Dex38313: Hope you don't get the new "Flu" and end up 6 weeks in on a respirator at the hospital like thousands of other deniers out there.

        • Maybe, but we shouldn't just blindly accept a popular theory without understanding it first, the same way you can't win an argument by dismissing an opposing view without a complete understanding.

I'm not directing this at you, but the comments in this thread show that most people only read headlines (in this case the title). Worse still, most people have misunderstood completely what the book is about.

    • Thanks for your insights

  • +2

I genuinely can't tell if the commenters saying it was faked are being sarcastic or just dumb

    • Totally ironic of course. Check out "dark side of the moon" if you have not seen it, as a great example of how easily these conspiracy theories can be fed.

  • +6

That Mitchell and Webb Look - Moon landing sketch
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6MOnehCOUw

    • +1

Thanks, really funny. I, assume, you have seen Mitchell’s Soapbox series. They are, also, up on YouTube.

      • No I hadn't. I'll check it out.
        You're true to your name.
        Thanks.

  • we are talking, great

  • -4

The Americans barely made it into space and you're telling me they landed on the moon in the 60s?
SpaceX is still barely lifting their rockets off the ground…..
    loooool

    • Well, if you take into account the vastness of the universe, then you are right. It's a very long way to the edge.
And of course they didn't land on the Moon. Even a dumb person would see they were bouncing.
See for yourself, don't just take my word for it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwZb2mqId0A

      • not sure if your comment is serious or not.
but if it is, thats they "walked" in reduced gravity.
use any physics similation engine, enter gravity of the moon, go nuts, and see for yourself.

        • Depends which part you are referring to.
As for; they didn't land, it wasn't. I was just having fun as it looks like they bounce off, instead of walking like on the earth. With a name like that, icarus should be wiser by now to not fly too close to the sun, but still, when he didn't want to listen to his own father's advice, then you can't expect he will believe some strangers who have nothing better to do but lie about moon landing.

On the other hand, don't see why they waste time on proving it is a hoax. After all, it's not like it affects your life in any way, whether they landed or not. I am not taking into account the inventions in course of the space program which help people in many different ways, just that if you compare someone's life before 1969 and after, it hasn't changed. They would still live their life, just like everyone else, so, don't see why they are so eager to 'prove' it was a hoax.
So, I'll say to conspiracy theorists, prove that I'm worse off because they lied about moon landing, otherwise, go and educate yourself.

          • @bargainparker: Look we have proof its a hoax.

America doesnt exist, Chris Columbus faked the whole voyage, bribed a few sailors with rum, painted a few rocks, plucked some feather out of a turkey and said it was an Indian

So since America was a figment of Columbus' imagination, they cant have sent a man to the moon.

Ask those in the know, those who lived at the time of his voyage.

            Case closed 😂

            • +2

@RockyRaccoon: Columbus also said “Don’t believe everything you read on the Internet”.

However, I think the Native Americans may have discovered it before Columbus.

Reminds me of the Black Adder episode with Tom Baker as the Captain. Just sail off the coast for a while and then come back and tell some lies.

              • @try2bhelpful: Ah yes, you are getting with the plan, as an aside just consider that the Indians werent into Rockets. A few upward shooting arrows maybe.

Then there is the internet and GPS all using satellites dependent upon loopy rockets that Icarus255 says can't launch.

And such sarcasm we are using, probably is a,

                1Facist
                2Racist
                3Communist,

                plot!

                Choose 1 2 or 3 or all,

                Whatever floats their boat

                • @RockyRaccoon: Nah, it is just the gubment hidin’ stuff from us. They are taking away our “freedoms”. Frankly, if a hoax involves a lot of people it ain’t gonna fly.

Although, after all, it was rocket science.

              • @try2bhelpful: I'd like sketch with both Brian Blessed and Tom Baker ad libbing in it! That'd be a Big Event!

            • +1

@RockyRaccoon: Don't laugh. According to some Flat Earthers, it is us Aussies who are imaginary. We shouldn't exist in Australia since we'd fallen off the Earth already.

  • +1

    Fantastic!
    Any deals on tinfoil hats?

  • And is the world flat?…….. ;)

  • Lol.. This post is super funny.. We've really got a spectrum of Coo-Coo's around the place.

    • FYI the author of the book is an astrophysicist working for the German Space Agency. It's not some random flat earther who wrote the book

Thomas Eversberg is an astrophysicist by training and works for the German Space Agency. He specializes in optical instrumentation for telescopes, about which he has authored a scientific textbook. His current research addresses active massive stars

      • I'm more about the comments coming through this section than the content or authorship of the book itself.

  • Did they land on the moon - seems almost certain. But I don't get invited to the meetings of those who really know for sure. And those shadows in different directions in the photo are a bit of a hoot. Still, a distraction from the far worse deceptions of our leaders happening right now.

  • Someone should write another book called COVID-19: Conspiracy Theories. It will be quite a long read, but will be good for a laugh.

  • +1

Here's a transcript from Mythbusters Moon Landing Hoax episode. Busted a few popular moon landing conspiracy theories.

    • +1

Conspiracy theorists would say mythbusters is a hoax too 😅

      • Haha you're probably right..

  • +6

    Typically $26+.

    That's the real hoax.

  • Does the book have many pictures, considering only illiterates would read this stuff?

    • Curious, what do you think the book is actually about?
