      Ryzen 5 2600??

      • +5

The 5-3500X is only available in China if im not wrong. And the perfromance is not quite Ryzen 5 3600 and closer to the 2600

        • -2

Apparently it was reported to be china OEM only, but turns out that's wrong. According to this TechSpot Review, in Australia the Ryzen 5 3500X is only available in pre-built machines.

          • +2

@CoatsyJnr: 'Ryzen Pro' is the prebuilt/OEM-only line

          • +1

@CoatsyJnr: I believe the 3500X is available for retail in China and OEM only everywhere else. Though I've seen the Ryzen 5 3500 non-X a lot in Asian countries.

        • the 3500X is faster than the hyperthreaded 3600 as it has the same CACHE but does not need to share it with the mythical hyerthreads. In some media encoding its a tad slower but faster generally in gaming…. Id say 10% max, either way ~ you wont notice it. I ran my 1700 with HT off and barley noticed unless I was running encoding or benchmark apps like cinebench. Again, 10% losss in some or 10% gain on average in other apps.

          • +1

@srhardy: My 3500X is terrible in AC Odyssey. Games are using more and more threads, and besides, you can disable SMT with the 3600 but there'll barely be a difference. You also lose 100MHz with the 3500X.

    • Impressive value, although if you change it up a little, you can get practically the same performance for a fair bit less.
For example using an RTX 2060 which should yield similar performance in most games (not to mention DLSS 2.0 and ray tracing), which are often available for about $460 (or you could get a super for an extra $70)

      • Agree on can get same performance by changing things up

But not by changing to RTX 2060 for sure. RX 5700 is the best value mid-end card IMO.

Out of the box it's comparable to 2060 S / 2070 and with it being able to be flashed makes it even better at or above 2070 performance wise.

Unless you are streaming, RX 5700 is the better choice.

  • Yeah, decent (not amazing) value.

Am i in the minority for wanting a small form factor, capable ish gaming pc that is sleek and quiet that is BASICALLY a pc version of an xbox/ps4..? Does such a thing exist? To make the request more simple, an xbox one s/x looking/similar power that is actually just a pc? Thanks

    • +7

      That's called a console

    • yes but they will cost more than the same part but in bigger form, look for mini itx mobo and they already cost more than the itx form factor

      • +1

yeah, i assumed so. Just wish there was something similar to a current gen console in size, that could play all these free epic/cheap steam games and not look out of place next to the tv.
I guess maybe one of these optiplex's and a low profile card is as close as it will get!

        • Look up Nuc computers, they might be what you're looking for

        • There are ssf cases that accepts regular ATX parts, but of course, they're a bit pricey as well. But considering the extra you need to pay for the 1650 for a similar performance card, it'll probably work out the same.

Granted, if you just want a dirt cheap 1080p experience that the hardest Game you expect to push is civ 6, nothing beats the octiplex or elite 8300 + 1650 for lowest price lol

    • Look up for "intel ghost canyon nuc gaming pc" on google.

      • Omg…sooooo expensive! How do the console makers possibly make any money?

        • +3

For console makers it's all about getting you into their ecosystem. Once you're in they hope to make money of you in other ways.

        • +1

they make a loss on hardware, recouped back by inflated price of games/online "value add" services

    • You can buy cases that aren't TOO much bigger than a console, and that won't cost that much more than a normal PC as they can take mostly full-size components. (Full-size GPU, just not a giant CPU fan or loads of hard drives)

I just buy a normal mid tower case and lie it sideways under the TV. Works for me.

There's a youtuber by the name optimum tech which does sffc gaming pc. His stuff is really neat and I plan on building my next computer based off his builds.

    • Check out the Youtube channel "Optimum Tech" for exactly this

    • Look up the nzxt h1 case - the white basically looks like the new Xbox. Unfortunately you pay premium for ITX form factor - literally everutbung is more expensive. Mobo, case, psu.

    • The techfast leaper small form factor case is smaller than most other mATX cases. I've got one it's good.

      https://techfast.com.au/collections/amd-systems/products/amd…

Or you can go SilverStone Milo ML03 Black HTPC Case.

      https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/Cases/Home-Theatre/40183…

    • The Corsair One
That's the system you're dreaming of. They are amazing. About console sized, but with full size GPU and CPU and with integrated water cooling and run very quiet.

    • check out this YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRYOj4DmyxhBVrdvbsUwmAA

He does a lot of quality videos on SFF (small form-factor) PC's.

Here's one where he goes over a bunch of SSF cases: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vo8T81nuLFM

And this one is kind of similar style/shape to the new Xbox Series X: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVs7i-wm5W0

I think we're gonna wanna know how old this MECH OC stock is. My one from my system I bought in December was from August, and the junction temperature was crazy high and the fans spun 3500rpm. I repasted it and removed the backplate and it's doing alright now. This looks like a very decent price though, basically the system I bought for $978 in December with a better PSU and motherboard.

    • +1

You got the vanilla 5700 or 5700XT?

I didn't think the vanilla got the revision?

      • Regular 5700. That's gonna be an ouchie if it isn't a refreshed model. I'm going to have to put some NF-A9x14s to fully tame the beast. 2000rpm while it isn't loud on quality fans, isn't very nice on MSI's crappy TORX fans. They make a constant pulsating whine.

        • I think I have some accelero xtreme 3's. Hit me up.

          • @drew442: It doesn't let me PM you. I'd be interested, but my budget for cooling is kinda tight, ~$50-60. I'll also have to check that it works on my specific 5700's PCB.

    • It begs a tear down and repaste as well as a BIOS XT update and dont go OC it futher. Should give 1440P 120-150fps gaming… for the brave only! warranty is non existant for flashing a card, so you are warned! BTW you can get most of the same effect from OC with software if you want and you can dial it up and down to suit your cooling position too.

    • +2

This card stock was purchased in March and we haven't focused on it since we started getting 2060s in. It's the revised batch :)

      • Good to know. Btw your pic of the MAG VAMPIRIC 010X on the site is the Leaper Air Maxx.

    • Does undervolting help?

      • I dropped 100mV off the core and it still peaked 100c causing an awful ramping up and down. Arguably worse than the steady 3500rpm.

        • Geez that's shocking lol, even worse than what I'd expect after seeing HUb's review.
If you've still got issues with the fan speed, or if you end up going through with the fan swap and need to control from mobo, I can highly recommend Argus Monitor. Lets you set your fan curves without having to restart through bios everytime, and includes option for GPU temp as the x variable. Cost about $16 and does some other stuff as well.

          • @jp1011: I don't need Argus Monitor because it's a GPU.

            • @Void: Using a mini 4 pin adapter?

              • @jp1011: Oooooh if I end up connecting it to 4 pin PWM on the motherboard I see. Nah I'd just use an adapter. Noctua fans are very low power.

                • @Void: Fair enough. What do you normally use for your GPU fan curve?

                  • @jp1011: OverdriveNTool. AMD's Wattman is horrible at keeping it without resetting.

                    • @Void: Sounds good! Best of luck, I'm thinking of fan swapping my GPU as well since its the noisiest component left now. How big is your wifi card? You might be able to get away with one regular fan (in front of the wifi card) and one slim one (above the wifi). Should open up a few better value options since there are so few alternatives to the slim noctuas.

                      • @jp1011: No Wi-Fi card (anymore), just really bad x16 placement and front panel USB.

                        • +1

@Void: That sucks. Now that I know better, pcie layout is the first thing I'm looking for in a mATX mobo lol

  • +1

Idk if Luke is paying attention to this thread but is there any chance of a 3700X, 5700XT build in the future?

    • I'll look into it - quite a bit of 5700XT love has been around recently.

      • 3700X, 5700XT, b450, gold psu and a 1tb ssd for $1600-$1700 would be perfect if you can put something together?

  • Does this GPU suffer the same driver issues with the 5700XT?

    • +1

Has this GPU suffered the same driver issues with the 5700XT?

      FTFY

Driver issues are pretty much no more for 95% unless you count ReLive being a bitch but that also happened to me with Shadowplay. All Navi cards suffered from them.

Check out Hardware Unboxed's newer videos on the matter. He says his entire family hasn't encountered an issue and neither has his partner on the channel (I don't know his name OKAY).

You just asked a very controversial question btw. Negs are headed to anyone who responds.

      • I just want my money's worth :(

Thinking of this or the 2060. Can always upgrade to 3060 next year.

        • +1

I'll say the 5700 is just fine. I have this exact card with no issues apart from the aforementioned overheating which I resolved. I recommend you avoid this system anyway until we can get an answer from Luke as to whether this is a revised model.

        • I faced the same dilemma late last year and ended up going with the Zotac 2060 AMP that performs above and beyond. (also scored it for the neat price of $400 on a black friday deal).

          • @dsiritz: Yes that was a good choice at the time. I had issues too until AMD started picking up their game, I was on the verge of returning it and getting a 2060 Super. I stayed a little longer and it paid off though.

      • repasting it isnt hard (nor is the XT bios update) if your system has good fan air cooling… and for the price, its worth the extra effort…

the 2060 is perfectly safe option and I see them selling for $400-500, supers from $550+

        • It isn't hard, but most people don't want to void their warranty nor do they want to risk damaging their card at the same time. And even then the fans are garbage and whine at 2000rpm which runs it at acceptable temperatures, so you'd have to replace those too.

  • Who uses 2666MHz RAM anymore?

    • CL19 at that.

      • OEM jedec spec I assume.

        Could OC fine?

        • I got it to 3733CL18. Sammy C.

        • Mine does 3000 C19 so I wouldn't count on being so lucky.

          • @jp1011: Oof must be from the Hynix MFR batch, even then I've never heard of an IC THAT bad. Even MFR should do 3000CL15.

  • The Asus Tuf B450M-PLUS Gaming MB looses a pcie slot with a dual slot graphics card alas, leaving only 1 long one spare for wifi. Wish you would find a wifi version or one that has a pcie card, then x16 graphics dual slot like the steel legend B450M! Its the same price and has rgb blingy goodness to boot over the austere TUF.

    • +3

99% don't need more than 2 slots though. Even with the Steel Legend the MECH OC being 2.3 slot in width would block the PCIe x1 slot.

  • +3

    any 5700 XT systems coming?

  • -2

Good price now, but by the time it gets delivered, not so much.

    • These are posted within 3 business days as they are the express in-stock pcs.

      • -3

So if these are prioritised all other customers suffer even more delays?

        • Yes but it mentions this all over the site before you buy. You know full and we'll that you may be waiting 14 business days before it's posted. If you're not happy then cancel your order?

          • -2

@J6: Yeah "may be" should be "minimum definitely". With these things for most companies you'd generally expect occasionally a worst case but most of the time should ship in the same week. It's just not good practice at all.

      • Tech "Fast" ?

  • -1

Sorry but 15 business days + postage for normal orders is around a month that's just not fast at all.
I know because I recommended it to someone whos still waiting

    • +1

You’re lucky if you can get it in a MONTH and UNDAMAGED.

  • Thanks for adding another Express deal. My mate just bought this off ya. Solid deal if you don't care about RT!

  • waiting for status change for order on 31/07
