I just bought the 7000 18 in 1 pack. The body trimmer attachment is definitely worth the extra dosh. I am smooooooth and haven't nicked a chunk off myself.

    • +4

im sure it would be a higher quality unit but…$150 vs $60 though?

      • +1

Depends what you want to use it for.
The 7000 has 5 HOURS of battery life.
        Way more attachments.
Attachment specifically designed for your body. Using a face/head clippers on your body is just asking for cuts.

I asked myself how often I plan on buying this - which is probably every five years. It's got a three year warranty when you register it.

        • +26

          5 hrs battery life!

…but i dont want to open a barber shop :(

          • +5

@Aarent: Nothing worse than finishing your left leg before moving onto your right, then the clippers die on you!

            • +7

@bbqandbargains: I'm literally imagining 'american pie' with the bedroom scene and the hedge he has to navigate through.

thats one huuuge left leg to take 5 hrs on XD

        NiMH vs Lithium, for one

    • +1

      Purchased this one thanks mate.
Lithium battery definitely a bonus. As a hairy boi the longer the battery lasts the better.

      • +1

        This guy gets it. Enjoy!

      • This model has a Ni-MH battery, the 7000 series are the ones that come with the better Lithium-ion batteries

        • Yeah I replied to bbqandbargains comment with the 7000 series link he posted and purchased same.

    • Thanks for the recommendation. 5hr battery life is overlooked I think. I want to just be able to charge it up. THrow it back in the draw and it have charge for when I need it. Nothing worse than needing to charge a trimmer right when you need it.

    • So you like the body trimmer? I bought this a week ago and just used the body combs attachment and it did a decent job. The body trimmer + extra battery life seemed to be the only advantage over the 18-in-1 to the 12-in-1.

    • +1

i went with this last month, $150 def steep but that battery life is awesome and reviews seemed pretty good for long term reliability so thought you only get 1 of these. Get the best.
Even the 7000 there is cheaper a 12 in 1 version that has only 2hr battery life.
Can take it travelling and just leave it drawer. Lithium ion vs the standard. Should last ages

Can I ask if you've had any negative affects from body hair trimming such as increased regrowth? or is that a myth?

Approaching 30 and back hair is bothering me from a sex symbol POV :D

      • +1

Only really started the body trimming journey, so I can't say from a first hand perspective. I have a feeling that you'd get those effects in a greater factor when razor shaving. Trimming wouldn't split follicles and cause extra growth as much or at all in my totally uneducated opinion.

      • +6

It is a myth. If you think about it:
        - you can't magically increase the number of existing hair follicles
        - hair that you see is 'dead', so cutting it has no impact on the hair root as it has no way to know it was cut
        - for the same reason, it won't / can't grow faster
        - regrowth might feel rougher, and hence like there is 'more' of it, because the ends have been cut to a sharp edge, rather than a worn-down soft end.

        So, clip away without fear.

        • cheers guys

      • +2

It's a myth and been debunked a number of times.

      • +1

feel you brother. haha. only thing hindering my sex symbol status.

      • +3

If they can see your back then you're doing it wrong. ;)

        • you gotta get one of them ceiling mirrors bro

        • Not if he's "playing for the other team"

    • Can you use it to cut hair? I see the listing says it's got some additional fade attachments?

      • The 18 in 1 7000 has hair attachments. I'm resisting the urge to do it in stage 4, so can't comment on their effectiveness.

        • Btw, for the body trimmer attachment, is it a different trimmer attachment or just an additional comb?

    • Which attachment is that? I currently have the Philips OneBlade and it constantly irrates my skin causing rashes regardless of whether I shave my face or my chest.

    • +11

      ….of course it was ….that was pre-pandemic
go find one cheaper now and report back

      • +1

Yeah but we're expecting a grand sale from you

    • +1

Hmm 30% cheaper. That's a massive price hike just because of covid. Haven't seen other commodities price hike that high.

  • +4

Bought this early last year, works very well!

I would highly recommend not using the nose trimmer unless you like stabby hairs irritating you when ever you scratch or blow your nose.

Worked surprisingly well as a hair clipper; gave myself an iso haircut and had no problems even though i have extremely thick hair.

      …good find. free delivery too.

    • Was just about to post this.

Don't support Amazon if there are alternatives..

  • I got the 7000 back when it was on sale for like eighty bucks.

It works great for everything except stubble. If that's what you are after, it's useless. Ended up having to get a one of their beardtrimmer series as well, which is kind of annoying.

    • Thank you for this comment good sir, saved me purchasing. What did you buy for the beard trimming out of curiosity, looking for one to replace an older Philips Vacuum Beard Trimmer which I've never fully liked.

      • haha, not much help then… because that's exactly what I bought :) Beardtrimmer 7000.

        • Actually looks like the newer Vacuum Beard Trimmers come with attachments for the precision clipper, it’s been my biggest issue with the older Vacuum version it’s hell doing the moustache for me. Thanks to your comment though I checked out the new versions! Thanks again mate

    • @jjcf Are you talking about designer stubble, the look you want. How does it do that badly, it's uneven, it's not short enough?

      • i presume he means removing stubble

      • Yeah. Not short enough; you get a 1mm and 2mm comb, but there is no way it's 1mm. I use the 1.5mm setting on my BT 7000 and it's significantly closer.

  • +1

cheers op, easy return if no good.

  • Myer has this for the same price, and you can use discounted gift cards.

  • +1

That's an impulse buy, thanks OP

    • …its a good trimmer. high quality for the dollars & lots of useful attachments

      • +1

Great!, my current one is pretty average and I need something to tidy up my stage 4 covid19 beard.

  • +3

Another happy owner here. Bought around 18 months ago, it's as good now as it was out of the box. I've also been using it for iso trims, and it makes light work of my thick hair.

  • +1

Nice upgrade from my $20 corded Wahl trimmer.

  • is this suitable for cutting hair guys?

    • -1

not really…its a beard trimmer & groomer primarily. you want hair clippers if youre looking to cut hair

      • thanks. I bought it just now after reading "trimmer" & hair attachments etc…
guess I will have to return it to Myer.

    • I've used it to cut hair. Not the best but definitely usable if you're planning to keep your hair short.
Probably not good if you're looking to keep more than a couple of mm.

      • Great! Thanks for sharing

    • +2

Been using this to cut my hair for the past 4 months. Works surprisingly well. Enough add ons there to give yourself a good fafe as well. Recommend

      • Cool I will keep then.

      • +1

Any tips on using the trimmers and attachment to get a fade? Like a 1 to 3 or thereabouts, not skin fade or anything

        • I use the adjustable beard comb starting from about 6mm then working down to 3mm, then finally the 2mm stubble comb. Looks good enough for me!

  • +1

Was going to buy this a month back but ended up getting a Wahl Peanut instead for $110, it's a rotary clipper from their salon line. Should hopefully last about 5 times as long as these cheap department store clippers.

    • +1

…that wahl unit is for cutting hair
this is for beards & stubble & body grooming…totally different product

  • Any deals or recommendations for hair trimmers? Thanks guys

      • +5

        wtf?
Are you going to barrigate your deal post with no extra comments?

    • Multigroom series though work for hair, I wont recommend them. Try Wahl Made in USA ones when on special.

    • I've been looking for ages. After a USA model Wahl with at least the Power Drive motor, a decent range of comb sizes and under $70. I might be asking too much maybe.

This is the closest I can find https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/wahl-comfort-grip-haircutting…

      • Keep an eye on Amazon US for good Wahl deals - I picked up a USA made Wahl Lithium Ion+ (9818) for $105 AUD last week. RRP for same model with Shavershop is $199.

    • +1

I use this for my hair and it works fine. It's a bit narrower than a usual hair trimmer so it takes slightly longer but it glides through my hair. Much better than the corded ~$30 wahl/remington ones.

      • -1

…good to know. ive only used mine for shaving stubble, sideburns, body hair etc.

  • Can you get replacement ends for these? I have the 7000 and noticed when I use it on my face it feels more like its pulling rather than cutting, wondering the the blade is getting dull.

  • +2

It's been this price for a couple weeks now, was same price at Myer which has sold out now it seems. Been waiting for it to drop lower.

  • can this be used for dog grooming?

  • +1

Very confusing just how many different varieties of hair clippers and groomers there are from philips alone on Amazon. How is one supposed to chose…

  • I used the 8 in 1 version. Never bothered with most of the attachments. It's good for maintaining stubble and trimming down before clean shaving. The plastic comb attachments are good for blending in the face and the neck so you don't look like those fat Americans that try to fake a jaw line with a straight edge line. The blade is pretty sharp and I can use it on my face without accidentally cutting but the skin on the balls and johnson are a bit sensitive so it's a bit hard to use without cutting yourself. I have pretty thick facial hair and it still cuts easily.

    • cutting but the skin on the balls

      Does it groom everywhere?

  • Can I cut my own hair (head) with this, e.g. #1 cut?

  • +2

Found it for $59 from a quick googly: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/philips-series-5000-multi…

For those who want to click & collect or shop in-store.

  • I'm torn. Which is better? This or this?

  • +1

Just ordered this and got $15 off more from Amazon. Not a bad deal 😊
