Recommend a Food Processor or Blender Deal

Good morning

Summary:
I am looking for a good deal on a food processor or blender.

Background:
I recently ordered beans instead of ground coffee from the recent Manna Beans deal and need a way to grind this. I am also looking for a way to make my own hummus instead of buying the 5L tubs from Aldi. I would also like to be able to save time grinding ingredients like garlic an chillis for stews. It seems like the most economical option is to invest in a food processor.

Requirements:
I would like to be able to mainly grind coffee beans and legumes. I understand that this is not the ideal way to grind beans; I'm not a perfectionist/snob and am happy with being economical to get a product that is slightly worse than ideal. I don't plan on buying unground coffee beans in the future, so once I use up the beans from this order, I'll mostly be blending spices and legumes.

I would be prepared to spend up to $150 on a really good quality food processor or blender that will last a long time with a solid warranty. I am not very knowledgeable about food processors and blenders (or the difference between them) and am hoping someone can share their knowledge.

So far I'm looking at the Kenwood FDM300SS which comes with a 5 year warranty for $119 from Amazon:

Let me know what you think and if you can recommend any good deals!

  • This is not how you treat coffee beans…..

But also food processors are so annoying with their cleanup of all the parts everytime you use it. so using it for things like cutting garlic etc would be a nightmare. Buy mince garlic and chilli

  • lol, poor coffee beans, may as well throw them out.

    grind coffee beans

    not the ideal way

    slightly worse

I'm honestly not sure what you will think once you try it, but somehow I'm betting the answer won't be "pleasantly surprised".

You should find a local cafe (or a friend with a coffee grinder) to grind your beans.

Using food processor will result in uneven, coarse grinds which leads to bad-tasting coffee and therefore waste of your money.

    • Hi, while this is a good suggestion (aside from whether they'd actually agree to do so) I am currently in a stage 4 lockdown area and can't visit a coffee shop for that reason.

Do you have a friend who can take the coffee bag from your front porch (or whereever serves social distancing requirements), bring it somewhere to grind and return it to you? You can repay them with coffee or whatever favours you can give.

Chucking the beans in a food processor is not too different to throwing them away in the bin, in my opinion. Just don't do it.

          Hi ddhar

I assume that you've tried this at some stage - double-blind - with both a coffee grinder and a food processor?

I think you may misunderstand what Stage 4 entails in Victoria.

@[Deactivated]: No, for reasons I already gave above.

I believe you are allowed to go out shopping for food (and get your beans ground at a cafe and before 5pm). Is there something I'm missing?

    nutri bullet?
it comes with milling blade for dry ingredients such as coffee beans and other blade for wet ingredient like making juice or extract and even make soy milk.

  • Go to a good indian store and buy a Sumeet or panasonic blender/grinder, that will do he job and will last long.

    Hi everyone

Any recommendations for a good value food processor or blender will be highly appreciated.

    • buy the one you linked to. It will make the flavour of those coffee beans sing, and your home made hummus will be delightful. Enjoy!

I own a kitchenaid food processor - 7 cup one. Its good (mainly used for dog food prep), but i feel like i need to upgrade to a magimix or a kitchenaid exactslice! I heard they are more powerful than the kitchenaid 7 cup.

A food processor is going to permanently smell like coffee if you intend on using it for other things later - also seems kinda odd to need to buy a grinder because you bought the wrong beans, as the wrong grind will make your coffee taste horrendous.

Might be better off gifting the beans to someone else

If you still wanted a coffee grinder, I would recommend the Breville Smart Grinder Pro which uses conical burrs, approx $160 from deals such as this: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/478654

    • Thanks. $160 seems a bit steep to make $50 worth of coffee. Are any of the hand-held burr grinders at around $50 worthwhil?

I would be willing to invest $60 or so in a manual burr grinder if it made ordering unground beans in the future worthwhile, but I don't want to bring more junk into the world if it's not going to last or outweigh the convenience of continuing to buy ground beans.

Having a food processor smell like coffee seems like a first-world problem to me. I couldn't be less concerned with that to be honest.

  • Just get a cheap hand grinder for coffee and Kenwood blender from Amazon for other food stuff.

Amazing food processor. I looked at a lot of reviews before purchase. Have had it now for three years and it gets a LOT of use. The blade comes to to like within .0001" of the bowl so everything gets processed and very fast/thoroughly. Suction cup feet keep it planted to the bench-top when in use.

We make hummus a lot, pumpkin (or any smooth-based) pies, as well as soups, etc. Exceptional device and takes 2 mins. to rinse/clean.

    Good luck!
