So, I was looking for a monitor with these 4 requirments for less than $1K.

  • IPS Panel
  • 4K or UWQHD resolution
  • Ultrawide (21:9 aspect ratio)
  • Curved

Mainly want to use for multi-tasking (some design work and coding) and not gaming. I often have 3-4 windows open side by side for comparison. The closest one I was able to found with these specs was this Dell which is almost $200 more.

Found this one on Amazon US which tick all the boxes.

  • 34” 21: 9 WQHD (3440 X 1440) Curved IPS display
  • USB type-C connectivity
  • HDR 10 compatible
  • Supports sRGB 99% color gamut
  • Height & tilt adjustable stand
  • On-screen control
  • Curved display. Brightness:300cd (typ) / 240cd (Min)

It has got excellent reviews on Amazon and a video review is here

    Not 4k

    • lol of course it's not 4K, it's an ultrawide (see title) X)

      • +2

OP changed his original description - read comments below

  • +3

Dead pixels and warranty claims would be a huge pain…

    • +3

If I delete these, then there will be 50 comments just pointing to 50 other cheaper alternatives. If someone can find these 4 requirments for less than $1K, I will be more than happy to delete these requirements.

I think it doesn't confuse people. It tells people that it is good buy becuase of these features and there is nothing in the market atm with these features at a price equal to or less than this. Anyway, its upto you what you think. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Feel free to neg or report this post.

Not 4k, not proper HDR (Apparently software emulated????)

    Brightness 300cd (typ) / 240cd (Min)
Contrast Ratio 700:1 (Min.), 1000:1 (Typ.)

Would not buy, there's tonnes of better monitors for $1000

    • -3

Where does it state that it's 4k?

Also, feel free to provide more information for alternatives that you think are better.

      • The ops requirements were 4k.

        Samsung g7 32"
        Dell 32" SGS3220DGF

The Xiaomi 34" is a much better buy as well.

        • -2

What's your point? OP was simply stating their desired specifications.

          • +1

@magic8ballgag: I'm not sure what you're trying to argue? You asked where does it state it's 4k, I said the OP wanted 4k, which the monitor isn't (has since edited it to include WQHD which the monitor is)

            • -4

@SuBw00FeR: You're stating the obvious for no reason, the monitor submitted in the deal isn't and was never made out to be 4k, so why bother commenting just to confirm that it's not?

              • @magic8ballgag: Whooosh!

                • -1

@R3XNebular: Cheers for your valuable contribution, keep up the good work.

Still waiting on those 'tonnes of better' alternatives that you said existed.

The G7 is absolutely terrible, you obviously haven’t seen one in person, the curve is too much and distorts the picture so badly.

    60hz…pass.

    • -3

60Hz is of greatest benefit to gamers (not exclusively, but certainly more so than standard office productivity / coding work). If I had the choice between two equally-priced monitors and one was IPS with 99%sRGB , and the other was HDR with 75Hz or variable refresh, I'd go the former rather than the latter. (Having said that I'd rather something with >100% sRGB like AdobeRGB or DCI-P3)

      Horses for courses :-)

60Hz is of greatest benefit to gamers

        ……

        • +1

Sorry, my bad, was meant to say "refresh rates above 60Hz"

  • subpar $1K

Subpar doesn't mean what you seem to think it means. You're saying you were looking for a 1k monitor of below average quality. Which doesn't make sense.

    • Thanks, fixed

  • OP, if USB-C input is not a must, I think this LG 34WL75C-B, $899 + $33, and Australian stock, seems a better option.

    • +1

Good find, but its "Out of Stock"

  • Acer predator X34P is good choice for not that much more (got it for about $1100 I think). Local warranty really helps (I think for about 2 to 3 years for Acer products), got a small issue with screen, returned it, took a while and got a brand new screen back so very happy.

    • +1

I looked at it, really liked that monitor. Cheapest I found was almost $1200 at Centrecom

    • Acer have discontinued the X34P so people need to get in quick if they can find stock.

  • i see 505+146 shipping in USD. That is only 651 USD

    • +1

Yeah, go one more step and they will add ~$67 GST

  • Thanks OP!

  • LG IPS is sooo expensive it's a joke.

  • Just sharing this here as I was looking at 34" monitor with similar criteria as OP.

If anyone is in Sydney and don't mind second hand, there's an ad on Facebook marketplace for LG 34UC87-C for $700. It's an older model but has had excellent reviews over the years. It looks to be in good condition, but best to inspect and see the monitor in action before buying.

  • I have this one. Very happy.

  • Hi OP, I'm looking for something similar to yourself, but predominantly for Excel use where my financial models can get very wide. Can you talk through the IPS requirement versus VA with respect to your use, because that seems to be around a $200 premium over similar offerings. Thanks!
