  • ECU5 doesnt work anymore

    • Looks like you're right. I must have just scraped in getting it for $1,145.84.

Updated to show the best price possible now is $1,206.15.

  • omg some people still have spare dough in this current climate…. so jealous

Try to be positive. We need to work harder.
It's not about finding the best bargain, it is more about earning enough money so we don't need to visit OZB anymore. :-)

Even if Im rich - I'll always visit OzBargain

    • If you have a spare kidney, you have spare cash

  • +2

Costs more than my PC :/

  • dont forget 6% cashrewards….

brought my 24" to sub $300…needed a screen with a proper stand that could flip it vertically…decent for office and photoediting work

    • Cashrewards wont get paid out because a code was used.

      • ah…sucks…oh well… 315 aint bad….

but as an Ozbargainer, my pride hurts

    • I think its 12% cashrewards now…shame you can't stack!

I have one and it's excellent during the WFH climate.

I have my keyboard, mouse, and USB headset connected to the screen; as it does USB pass-through to the displayed device.
I have set it up so the first button is HDMI 1 and the second is USB-C.

With this set up I have one set of peripherals and can quickly toggle between personal and work computers.

    • +2

That's a neat setup. With the HDMI input, do you need a USB downstream too? ie. personal pc connected by hdmi+usb and work computer connected by usb-c exclusively?

      • Yes you need USB connecting the screen to the PC.

You are provided with a USB Type B (think "printer" cable) that connects to the screen, then back to your computer you connect the USB Type A ("regular" USB cable).

In the menu you set it to:
        HDMI 1 -> USB 1

But you can mix and match between HDMI 1, 2, DP and USB 1, 2.

        Picture for reference

        For USB-C it's straight pass-through.

    • +1

How does this work? The other USB C models don't have USB downstream?

      • there are other ports - but remember that USB-C is specific to a certain USB-C standard/ type (eg: thunderbolt USB-C) as its got to carry the higher throughput (40GBps it think ???) - higher Gbps means bigger screen and USB and multifunction comms transfer over the one cord.

You'll be even jealous seeing this deal

    • great deal!! but for that size monitor, 3800R seems like not enough curvature…

      • Consider its bend on money, I will try to accept the not enough bend on screen ;)

    • damn wish I could get it for that same $$$

    • I bought the 49” during this deal and I am using it for my official work.
Its an amazing monitor and now I can’t work on my laptop screen and on any small monitor anymore.
I have seen people selling it for $1500+ on Gumtree and FB Marketplace.

  • So what's the point spending over a grand on a grandiose screen that can't even do 4k? Gamers are getting shafted left and right and still bite.

      Excel Pro Max

Not everyone that wants/needs an ultrawide is a gamer.

    • this isn't a monitor aimed at gaming.

Some quick research will show you what the more expensive displays give you (differs from model to model).

No need to be ignorant and outraged before you try to get informed.

  • I am also in the market for a large screen monitor but can't afford this Dell. Thinking of going with this one. Almost half the price of this Dell and decent reviews on Amazon. I mostly do coding, with lots of multiple screens open at a time. 3 year warranty.

  • +2

    Holy expensive 60Hz Batman!

But then again that’s the gamer in me.

    • +2

Yeah it killed me as well. I did a bit of research and this was the only monitor that ticked all my other boxes for a work monitor (USB-C, 3440 x 1440 and height adjustment).

    • +1

It hertz me to say that it's not great for gaming.
There is also terrible ghosting (not sure of term.) on dark colours where it "persists" as you look past them.

      Very distracting while gaming.

    • +1

I have this and you can run it at 75Hz in native res.

In this price bracket, consider also https://www.samsung.com/au/monitors/c34j79/
RRP $1199, hard to find discount (probably more demand than supply).
It is SamSung QLED VA but has 100hz, proper colour gamuts with every monitor factory calibrated, and importantly for me, thunderbolt 3 ports, which are twice as fast as the fastest USB-C 3.2 gen 2x2. All late MacBook and intel biz laptops (HP elite book for example) have TB 3 ports. Great for productivity and multi-media creation.

    • Great find, Let me see if I can get a discount from their education store!

    • Problem is the USB-A ports are USB 2.0. It's essentially the same limitation of most current gen monitors with TB3 ports. Even though TB3 ports are good, once you take away the bandwidth high res video is required, there isn't that much bandwidth left.

Also, VA is VA, it does suffer from colour shift. Interestingly, people don't seem to see that being a big deal for OLED, which also suffers from colour shift.

  • At this price there’s better options. Consider getting an older model if you want the Dell (U3415 or U3417) - only difference are the ports, the panel specs remain the same or at least very similar. Or grab the Xiaomi

    • Yeah i got a u3415 few months back from outlet store for half price brand new

  • Dell Outlet has the U3415W refurbished for $859.00 at the moment.

    • what's the difference between the 3415 and 3419 ??

      • -1

        If I understand correctly,the 15 denotes the year released/announced

So 2015. I say this because my AW3418W is a 2018 model and the newer one is AW3420

        Could be wrong however

      • Newer panel on the 3419 with a bigger curve and USB-C

  • I'm struggling to find the U3818DW at a reasonable price. Dell store is way overpriced and Umart (who have the cheapest) have been out of stock for over a month :-(

FWIW, I tried that code on the 38" and it came to $1,631.15 incl shipping which is still quite a bit higher than $1499 at Umart.

  • I have the model before this (AW18DW) and very happy with it — got it for a similar price during the Dell clearance last year.

  • +1

This is a decent monitor for productivity but not at this price!

It's been $689 a year ago (refurbished, but was basically new):

Dell must be killing it with the amount of monitors being sold due to COVID / WFH.
