PRODUCT INFO
AMD’s NANO-TECH FFP2/P2 Particulate Respirator feature advanced filtering and design details that allow them to be worn comfortably for extended periods of time while maintaining their class-leading functionality over standard melt blown filter respirators. Cutting-edge nanofibre filters are incorporated into a face-contouring design that create an effective barrier against potentially harmful airborne particles and aerosols such as dust, virus, and bacteria. Nanofibre technology ensures excellent breathability and lightness even with the assurance of four protective layers.

Technology: Nano-filters, comprised of nanofibres, deliver higher filtration efficiency than standard melt blown filters and are lighter and more breathable. They also maintain their functionality after exposure to moisture while typical filters lose their electrostatic properties once exposed to water. AMD’s nano-filters are water resistant and protective against airborne particles, aerosols, and liquid.

Fit: Innovative three panel design fits naturally around the nose and mouth creating a better seal and aesthetic. Elastic ear loops hold the respirator securely in place. A soft inner layer and moldable padded nose bridge wire provide extra comfort.

Comfort: Nano-filter respirators are lighter than standard respirators and allow enhanced breathability which allow them to be worn for hours. The three panel design unfolds to shape naturally around the face maximising ventilation around the nose and mouth while still maintaining an effective seal to the environment. Nano-filter respirators are potentially viable options for populations with breathing restrictions such as the elderly and those with heart and lung conditions.

Packaging: Each nano-filter respirator is individually packaged for hygiene and designed to fold flat to facilitate portability and storage. Individual wrapping makes it convenient to carry and distribute without contamination. 50/Box.

I think for casual mask users they can just go for a Celeron mask.

  • found this https://www.aioh.org.au/static/uploads/files/guide-p2-respir…

P2 respiratory protection relates to the Standard AS/NZS 1716:2012. The Standard requires the
following markings on the mask or the filter. It is important to ensure that the correct respirator
markings are clearly displayed before purchasing.

      in surgery.

  • If this is Australia and new zealand standard, do you have the registration number?

    • TGA link above does have it.

  • Do these AMD ones have RGB ?

  • -4

Not sure how this is a deal, seems like just an expensive face mask. You're paying more just for a brand/for them to cover their marketing costs with this "premium" product.

    • -6

      agree.

    • +6

You're paying for quality/reliability. If I was an 85yo and in Melbourne, there is sure as hell no way I'd put my life in the hands of a 50 cent Chinese mask. Same goes for anyone with respiratory illness etc. Even in people recovering from covid, they're suffering persistent illness. For the sake of a few bucks per mask, I'd go with a trustworthy option. If I was in Perth, where the risk is significantly lower, then maybe a less reliable Chinese option some people would justify.

      • +4

Where's the proof the Chinese masks aren't the same surgical masks are worn by healthcare workers?

They cost nothing to make, so why would you expect there to be knockoffs?

        • +7

I'd trust a 3M mask made in China. It's about the quality of the material that gets used, and the QA. If you're buying the cheapest mask possible from a no-brand, they've found the cheapest "spec compliant" filter possible, they've accepted very low QA % and will deal with any "warranty" claims later on. Simply, they have no brand to protect.

For $1/mask extra, if I was vulnerable, and with all the confirmed positive cases walking around, buying these Aussie made masks is a no brainer.

(also support local and all that good stuff)

Edit: China buys Australia made baby formula because their stuff was contaminated - poisoning their own people. But sure, masks they export. Top notch stuff.

        • These are not surgical masks. These will prevent you from breathing in the virus even where others around you are not wearing masks

          • -1

@greatlamp: Surgical masks also help prevent coronavirus and other respiratory diseases by the same function you mentioned.

            • @TEER3X: There is evidence that surgical masks can help, but it isn't the same as a mask guaranteed to block 95% of airborne particles

If you are confident that getting COVID may kill you (over 70 y.o), or in a high risk setting, it is worth investing in a P2 mask.

Quality masks are in short supply, so authorities gave advice that the general population doesn't need them. Before COVID allowed for such studies, noone would recommend surgical masks to prevent viral infection in a high risk setting.

This led to the facebook morons declaring "masks don't work", and now the opposite "loosely tied scarf around face is protective"

      • Chinese people do not trust Chinese people when it comes to reliability/safety/health in products….so why would people buy Chinese overpriced crap masks to protect their lives? please spend a little extra to get yourself a proper mask.

Look at them, buying baby formula from Australia because theirs kills babies!!!

However, I would trust a 3M producing in China.

    • Show me where you can get a P2 mask for cheaper.

  • -2

is that the same AMD that makes CPUs? if so no deal for me. seems that they are overcharging us based on Aussie made to shift profit back to the states

  • +3

It is an expensive face mask. But
it is P2 and Australian Made (just hope to be of reliable quality).
I think it is a good deal for those willing to pay for premium masks.
If you can find any other cheaper P2 masks from reliable source?

    • Granted this involves buying a large quantity, but during the bushfire days I saw mostly $18 for a box of 10x for N95. I think even those prices are long gone while the pandemic is on, so $2.40 per mask is ok, if you really need them or can split it up with a mate.

This is all on the assumption it's all legit and properly certified, tested and all that.

  • Anything Channel 7 does should be considered an anti-ad.

    • Any money they paid channel 7 has been passed on into the mask too

  • +1

Masks do help reduce germs coming into your body but that is not what they are most effective at. They are most effective at having people keep their own germs to themselves. So instead of buying the most expensive mask out of some belief that's going to protect you, do your part by buying masks that you can wear comfortably as much of the time as possible. The less germs out there from people who do have Covid, whether they know it or not, the less of us will get sick.

I can tell you from first hand experience an improperly fitting mask can be very difficult to tolerate and can make your breathing laboured. 2 issues I had were the material being sucked into my mouth stopping air (material too light and not porous enough) and bands holding the mask in the wrong position pushing it into the eyes. i have a better fitting one now and the difference is night and day. In fact on the one shopping trip I went on with the badly fitting mask I got health advice from a stranger because of my laboured breathing - not something I normally have any issue with.

To maximize the effect of wearing a mask for your own safety, try to minimize touching it, pulling it off and for heaven sake don't put it around your neck which has been exposed to the air you're trying to protect yourself from then stick it back onto your face.

I don't begrudge people filling the void and making masks but the profiteering, fear mongering and fashion focus really irks me. It's about saving lives, not turning a buck or looking fashionable!

    • So what is a good option. Given that masks are now mandatory in Vic and become standard in NSW I'm surprised there haven't been any deals. Particularly for reusable ones

      • +2

I'm lucky. My wife likes to sew. So it took her a couple of goes to make one that fits but all we lost was time and scrap material.

Someone mentioned Facebook Marketplace and people making masks locally and when I looked they were selling for between $10-$20 per reusable mask.

You can also do a general Google. But like with webcams companies are gouging to take advantage of high demand while they can. And plenty of others making "fashion" masks for $60+ each. I swear some days i think the human race will end with the last 2 funeral directors selling each other coffins.

      • +2

The Re-usable ones are around and fairly cheap too:

Cotton On (in stock for now) $9.99 + Del/C&C
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/554017

Bonds mask (currently Out Of Stock) $9.95
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/553626

      • Bonds will be back in stock soon, they are bringing in 4 million masks in August / September
        https://www.afr.com/companies/retail/bonds-owner-rushing-4-m…

  • Asking for a friend ,i see it is for public use for members of the public.Does it match hospital grade respirators ?

    • +1

These are not classified as ‘hospital grade’ because they are not fluid resistant so can’t be used in surgeries nor intubation procedures

  • Out of interest, anyone else find it strange the manufacturer (https://amdmed.com.au/) only has a single product listed on their website?

      • Sorry, two products: https://amdmed.com.au/products/

        1. NANO-TECH FFP2/P2 Particulate Respirator, Four-layers
        2. FFP2/P2 Copper Particulate Respirator
        • One is coming soon

    • Looks like they are profiting on the lack of non china made masks. Good on them, cheaper than most and as certified and made in Australia up for a lot of fines if not up to standard

      • Would be interested to know the certification process though given it'll be a pretty new product. Have they sent a whole bunch to the authorities? Have they randomly bought them (hopefully anonymously) and verified all random samples pass the P2 tests?

That's why I'm suss about KN95 masks, unless they are 3M brand or something reputable like that. Specs on paper vs specs on reality. The Chinese companies churning out "KN95" masks I wonder how many of them are legit, no different to fake surgical masks although whether they "do the job" of a face covering is a different topic altogether.
I admit this reliance on fancy marketing terms like nano-blah-blah is a little suss. It either filters out 95% certain particulates or it doesn't …

    • +1

What is the amount of products must a seller have for it to pass your " officially not strange" threshold?

      • I'd expect a pinch of truth - if they've repurposed their setup to start mass producing masks - I can accept that, and I'm all in and would willingly pay a premium for.

What I can't accept is for a seller to hide behind some veil and claim something that is not (and worse reselling something that is imported as being locally made). I'm not even sure what's happening with this manufacturer.

A search through TGA website (http://tga-search.clients.funnelback.com/s/search.html?query…) only reveals two items ever being registered by this manufacturer, and both are masks (one of which was included in the original post):

        1. http://www.ebs.tga.gov.au/servlet/xmlmillr6?dbid=ebs/PublicHTML/pdfStore.nsf&docid=805701CCBC94D214CA25856100426E4C&agid=(PrintDetailsPublic)&actionid=1

        2. http://www.ebs.tga.gov.au/servlet/xmlmillr6?dbid=ebs/PublicHTML/pdfStore.nsf&docid=460BA641480A74E0CA25856100426E4B&agid=(PrintDetailsPublic)&actionid=1

Now, it could very well be that they are manufacturing under a different name - that's fine. If they are - isn't that street credibility that they would want to tell everyone?

100 for 70$ at chemist warehouse.

    • Nope

  • +3

People were calling for Australian made masks. Now that we have them, people are complaining about the price. You get either Australian made or cheap masks. You can't have both

    • +1

To be honest, this is cheaper than most of the Chinese KN95 masks I've seen. Seems like we can have both.

  • Looking at the ABN this appears to have been "Spice Media Pty Ltd" until a couple of months ago. The website looks like it was registered two weeks ago.

Pretty drunk, haven't looked deep, might be wrong.

  • Now back to RRP

  • FYI, I ordered on 22/07/2020 and they told me the 2nd time there was a delay again and my order won't be shipped until next week on Tuesday and as if they keep their words. This pisses me off badly. I tried to suppose local business and look at what they do to their customers.

    • Dont blame them.. Demand outweighs production.

Australia isnt capable of mass producing masks like China. All/most masks u see around are all made in china or rebdaged made in australia but products come from China.

  • Has anyone had shipping confirmation yet

    • Not yet.

  • +1

    My order are shipped now.

  • +1

Just received my order. Its pretty quick took about a week.

The packaging is very good. Each mask individually sealed and looks to be much better quality than the chinese made ones.

Very happy with this purchase. Would buy again once i run out.

    • +1

Mine arrived today they look great

  • +1

Mine arrived today. Very impressed with the design, super comfortable and easy to get a decent seal.

  • +1

I received these too and I have to say I'm actually disappointed in the design, quality and the fit. I am a healthcare worker and wear n95s/p2s at work regularly and pretty familiar with most mask designs. I couldn't get a seal with these. Fit is highly individual, but FWIW my observations/ suggestions for improvement:

    • I have never seen an earloop on p2 masks, and although it appears this is TGA approved the earloops will not hold the mask onto the face tightly enough. These need headbands.
    • This mask is paper thin and makes crinkly plastic bag sounds when bent, and as a result the edges are not firm enough to actually press and seal into the face.
    • These are very breathable, but every n95/p2 mask without a valve tends not to be. I will give these the benefit of the doubt, perhaps these are the most high tech masks on the planet with material that acts as a one way valve.

Sadly the overall quality of the earband, feel/fit of the mask feels quite similar the the low quality paper thin blue made in China non-n95 masks.

    • The material may feel different because these are not fluid resistant, whereas the ones used in hospitals have an extra /thicker fluid resistant outer layer.
