Hey everyone,
just picked up a second hand 2007 prius but it only has one key. Does anyone know of a locksmith or website selling the Chrome logo smart entry fobs/key? Toyota want to charge $400 for the key and programming.
Thanks
Matt

Hahaha… yeah, that’s not going to happen. :P
I mostly do industrial, commercial and domestic buildings. Most of my experience with cars comes from when I was a mechanic.
This key will need to be programmed to the car. Pretty sure this Prius is a push button start with a proximity key, so someone with the right tools, Toyota dealer or automotive locksmith, will have to program it to the vehicle.
I can't speak to the Prius set up explicitly, but I had a 2005 Commodore key copied a few years ago for around the $100 mark. I got mine done at a Mister Minit outlet, although many locksmiths offer the same service.
Was it a proximity key, or just the standard key with central locking buttons? Big difference…
Standard key with central locking. Not sure of the set up with the Prius.
smart entry
@spackbace: Apparently "proximity keys" can be similarly copied. Not sure of the price.
I don’t know where in Sydney you are but I’ve heard good things about this store in Eastwood:
Pexags will cut you one for free. He is a locksmith and a lover of all things toyota.
