    Good movie, I enjoyed it

    • Same here

    • Good to know. I haven't seen it but looks like my Friday night is set.

    • +3

Agreed, and you don't need to be a car person to enjoy it. The storyline is suited for anyone.

    • I wish they could go more in actual technical aspects of the car design and testing. Not just bringing it as a ready piece to the driver.

  • +6

Amazing movie!! After long I saw something that good …and then it’s sports racing movie 😊

  • +1

    Killer movie

  • +5

    Good movie - terrible title

    • +1

Nah, great title as it's simple yet fains curiosity.

    • What title would you give it?

      • In some territories it was called "Le Mans '66".

        • For someone like me that doesn't know exactly what "Le Mans '66" is… that title would not entice me the slightest amount to go see the movie.

          • @Rimzi: For sure Ford vs Ferrari is better than Le Mans '66. I think it was only called Le Mans '66 in countries where the Le Mans 24 hour race is well know. It's based on the book Go Like Hell and that was the movie's original script title, still not a great name either. I tried to come up with another name and I got nothing.

            • @Rockets84: Ah that sounds like a good move to name it that if it correlates to the country

Being a car guy, and someone who is pretty picky, I disliked it due to the extreme heavy use of CGI, 99.9% of every moving car shot was CGI, and not even that good :-( I feel like I'm in the minority though.

    • +19

      Thanks for the minority report!

      • +8

Don't listen to onlinepred, he doesn't know what he's talking about. It's not true, most of the scenes were shot natively. And even if they were cgi, the quality of the shot is really high that most people including myself won't mind. This is def not Fast Furious.

        • +1

Fast & Furious has become somewhat mindless action with try-too-hard sense of humour.
I'm looking forward to watch this seeing many positive reviews.

          • @itstuan: The best relevant car movie in the past 10 years,
not only racing also car culture

            • @zs8574832: That's interesting. I can't remember when was the last time I watched a car movie. This might be it :)

        • I'm picky, you may not be?

          • @onlinepred: pred? More picky?…. Alright, username checks out

    • +1

I'd love to hear what you think about fast and furious series then

      • Tokyo Drift was the last relevant car movie. Every release after is a heist.

        • Then they should start making movies about Payday 2….

      • It is the Covid of movies.

      • As a serious docu movie? Our a cheesy action movie

    • +2

I'm fairly certain most of the film was actual driving and not CGI - from memory, this was one of those films that boasted using real footage. Not sure if you've just got it mixed up with another film though.

      • No you are correct, but much of the real action scene of outside the cast are cgi, and the way the car drives and reacts to the road and steering input are what I'm getting at, it's obviously cgi scenes. Not all of our, just most of the action shots

    • +1

As far as i am aware, the vast majority at least was not cgi.

      https://www.caranddriver.com/features/a29738370/ford-ferrari….

      • Was a good read thanks.

      • +1

yeah I've watched some breakdowns of the colour grading and CGI showing how they shot with real cars in the day on dry road, then graded and added rain to make it a rainy night scene. Really well done to make you honestly feel it was at least night.

Not sure where I found the CGI and Grading breakdown, but there's a Cinematography Breakdown which contained those points.

      • I would bet that even the scenes that were not cgi, were sped up post process.

    • +2

      Nope.

"To tell the against-all-odds story, there are many car-racing sequences, and according to Papamichael, he and Mangold were in complete agreement on how they would be shot: using real cars. Though visual effects can pretty much recreate anything these days, there's nothing like the real thing — and you can feel it when watching Miles get behind the wheel in this movie.

To pull off the race sequences, Papamichael said 30 cars were built from scratch. Many of them were able to drive as fast as 90 to 100 mph with cameras strapped to them. So there was very little faking. From the vibrations the drivers felt from driving cars at high speeds to the reaction of the actor Tracy Letts, who plays Henry Ford II in the movie, when he's being whipped around by Damon's Shelby in a car on the test track, it's all authentic. And to execute the thrilling scenes in pit row at La Mans, Papamichael said it was all shot on a 200-yard set.

"We had to coordinate all those cars taking off at the pits," he said. "We only had four or five takes, and some cars would stall, like a real race. It was a great challenge but also a great achievement."

In the entire movie, only one car was created through CGI (the rest of the visual effects in the movie were to place crowds at the races), Papamichael said.

"The CGI car is in the shot where we come in from high in the sky down to the car," he said. "Everything else are real cars." "

Was a way better movie than it should have been, the whole family enjoyed it (that says a lot given what most movies are these days) and we're not even 'car' people.

      • Nearly all the action shots were cgi. Sorry mate. Like the scene where he tests the car around the airport area, takes the guy for a drive, or when he crashes the car and it catches in fire. The way the cast handles and reacts to the tarmac was not real at all

  • Such a good movie

  • Good movie. I enjoyed it too.

  • It was on one of the streaming services, a while back, just can't remember which one damn it. Lock down syndrome kicking in :)

    • +3

This movie was released in 2019, are you sure it was on streaming service a while back? I use both Netflix & Prime, it was never on them.
Also, even then, there's a good chance it is rental too.

      • -4

It was definitely on one of the services. Pretty sure it was Netflix.

        • +2

You're not thinking of one of the documentaries that cover the same period?

      • Yep Remember now it was on a streaming service with a free trial using a vpn

  • Great movie!

  • Great movie!

  • Ok film, appalling accent, decent price.

    • Hope you're not referring to Christian Bale's English accent? He is, after all, English.

  • Google play link ? It doesn't seem to be 0.99 c on Google play

    • Because the title says $6.99 on Google Play. Showing Apple TV as a deal.

  • Good movie. Worth it at this price in 4K

  • Can I watch apple TV stuff on android?

    • You can use the browser I think.

  • +1

Seeing this movie made me remember how freakishly good Christian Bale is as an actor.

    • Have you not seen Batman? 🤗

  • +3

    Don’t forget cash back

  • +2

I saw a comment when this was released - mentioning that this was the first 'dad' film released for a long while. I can't help but think that's a great description, nothing too intense or plot-heavy, but just a good old-fashioned down-to-earth film about men doing manly things.

    • +2

Ha ha on that basis Smokey and the Bandit is also 99 cents on iTunes.

The seventies was a different world.

  • +1

This was n awesome film . Damn beautiful in hdr to

  • Anyone know if this is suitable for little kids 7 to 12 years old? Is there any violence or swearing? We are thinking about family movie night. Thanks

    • +2

I think it would be fine for kids that age, depending just how strict on it you want to be. A little bit of swearing, but not a constant stream of it like you'd get in Tarantino or Scorsese movies which tend to have the MA or R ratings. No real violence that I can recall, apart from a brief fistfight that is more comical than anything.

      Movie is rated M: https://www.classification.gov.au/titles/ford-v-ferrari

Hahaha I just expanded the detail at the bottom of that rating page:

      Violence
The film includes violence in the form of two men grappling in a childish manner. At one point, one of the men punches the other in the nose. Later, one of the men slaps the other with a loaf of bread.

      Language
The film includes use of the words “hell”, “damn”, “bloody”, “ass”, “arsehole”, “screw”, “piss”, “shit” and a single use of the word “f**k”.

I never saw that on the classification website before. I think I'm going to spend most of today going through and seeing what it has to say about some of my favourite movies :D

    • +1

Took my 9, 11 and 15 year old boys to see it at the movies when it came out and we all loved it.

  • dating-from-home with wife this weekend sorted.

  • Attaboy!

  • +2

No Holden Vs. Ford movie? Huh….that's new…

    • I can direct it

    • Or Ford vs Alien. I’ll see it.

  • +1

This movie deserved to do better at the box office than it did. It's a great film based on a true story, zero wokeness, about two blokes trying to win a race for Ford with very little time to get started while having to navigate the politics within the Ford. You don't have to be a car person to enjoy this film. If you liked Rush you'll seriously enjoy this one. Damon and Bale do a fine job with Caitriona Balfe giving a great performance as Ken Mile's (Bale) wife. Best movie I've seen in a while.

  • +1

    100% would recommend this movie.
If anyone is into editing or movie making process, watch this breakdown from the oscar winning editors themselves.

  • I'm having trouble finding the rental link in a browser or apple TV. I can only seem to find a buy option, any advice?

    • You found the movie on Apple tv but there isn’t an option to rent? Just buy available?

      • Yeah that's it.

        • Even if you click on the link provided above? I'm not sure what's happening but have you tried sign out & sign back in with your Apple ID?
Do you access it on your Mac/PC or the actual Apple TV Unit?

          • @itstuan: Through my apple TV but I'm probably just being a spud. It's a pretty old one…

  • -1

The book is even better! Why pay for the movie? Just download the thing!

    • You know what's better than an ebook? A real physical one.

      • I have the “real book”.”Go like Hell”.Auth:A.J.Baime.As far as the movie goes,it is not a patch on the book. But if you want to watch it,just download it.(free)

        • -1

You wouldn't steal a handbag. You wouldn't steal a car. You wouldn't steal a baby. You wouldn't shoot a policeman. And then steal his helmet. You wouldn't go to the toilet in his helmet. And then send it to the policeman's grieving widow. And then steal it again!
Downloading films is stealing. If you do it, you will face the consequences.

@itstuan: Whatever! Not with a VPN! Are you a “preacher”?You believe that, you will believe anything. The yanks tried it a few years back to “prosecute” us.Guess what? The Aus courts threw it out.Not going to happen kiddo! Its there I will continue to use it when & if I need it.Not so much anymore, because,Netflix & Amazon prime are there.

          • @itstuan: Lol, have you tried turning it off and on again?

  • +1

Just watchd it last night… after watching Sonic 4k (surprisingly better than Detective Pikachu).

Big fan of both actors especially Christian Bale (his method acting is superb).

The movie is quite entertaining and quite sad on the realistic nature of big organization which reminded me of Mika Hakkinen.

*also the time when I stopped watching F1 races.

Ken Miles is indeed a legendary gifted driver/mechanic/problem solver.

What car won the Le Mans 2019?
    Hybrid
    Winner: The No.
The No. 8 Toyota won the Le Mans 24 Hours 2019. The Toyota Gazoo Racing TS050-Hybrid, driven by Sebastien Buemi, Kazuki Nakajima & Fernando Alonso, crossed the line first and climbed to the top spot of the podium at the end of the race.Jun 16, 2019

    …Toyota Banzai lol

    • 2 years in a row. Good on them.
Look at the most consecutive wins Porsche with 7 years in a row. Crazy!

  • Is this a modern rendition of the classic "tortoise vs hare" tale? They could make a sequel perhaps, maybe Kia vs. Lamborghini? Suzuki vs. Porsche?
