Similar deal as above from Peoplecare, refer https://www.peoplecare.com.au/landing-pages/join-offer-six-w…
Both HIF and Peoplecare are not for profit. member-focused. This type of fund typically returns more to members and has concern for its members more than the just trying to extract $ from you.

Worked for a not for profit in the finance team. Then I realised it is "no profit", the money still goes somewhere and I'll let people's imaginations run a little because people who can afford private health insurance aren't exactly in need of charity.
I noticed a few offers advertised recently.
I also noticed that some health funds have already indicated significant rises in premiums for later this year, so the immediate benefits may soon evaporate.
They would make more money by dropping their prices by 30% and getting the government to pay them JobKeeper. Assuming everyone is on average salary of $100k (conservative overstated number) the government pays $36k ($1500 a fortnight).
I guess it is one rort too far considering they already get private health insurance rebate.
Do we really need to get hospital cover to avoid paying LHC?
LHC for me is still confusing.
If you do not get hospital cover ever
- you are not obligue to pay for LHC?
Or is it smarter just buy the extra you need like dental which is a necessity
Most people will buy it to avoid the Medicare levy surcharge.
i nkew a few just ditch their private health insurance instead just get extra that you need.
Thysaid as long as you are not getting a priv health in the future, you wont pay LHC loading.
I recently got health insurance for the first time and for what I wanted (decent hospital, no extras) Bupa and Westfund were the cheapest. I'm not sure about Bupa but Westfund offer a month free to all new customers signing up for a hospital or hospital+extras policy. I ended up going with Westfund because my family has been with them for a while and their service has been excellent (including during a few recent, serious health problems). They're also not-for-profit which is great.
I'd recommend figuring out roughly what level of hospital and/or extras cover you want and doing a comparison. You could use a comparison website but I just went to the website of each of the unrestricted providers listed here https://www.privatehealth.gov.au/dynamic/insurer and looked up their price for what I was after. It only took an hour or two one afternoon and the price difference between the most and least expensive was massive.
