Riviana Basmati Rice 5kg $9.50, Black & Decker Bagless Vacuum $32.50, 2x Tontine Pillows $12 @Woolworths

260

Not as good as India gate IMHO, but definitely a good buy at this price.

2x Pillows for $12 (Tontine Sweet Dreams Antibacterial)

I've seen Tontine with their aggressive marketing for many years. Good to know they're still around.

Good for half the price of a Dyson's vac head.

Couldn't get more info about this vac on the website. Does anyone know much about its wattage?

Not as good as India gate IMHO,

Where's the best place to get India gate at a good price at the moment?

    • And is there anywhere that sells smaller bags of India gate to try out before buying a 5Kg bag?

      • +2

        5kg is the small bag.

        • Costco/ Indian grocery stores about $60 for 20kg bag

          • @777: Also please note, that while it may seem counter intuitive, India Gate Classic is actually better than India Gate Premium.

For best results, pre soak the rice for 15-20 min.
Each grain should be separated after cooking and expand to a couple of cm to upto 4 cm.

            • @darkmattersunB6c0MV:

Each grain should be separated after cooking

              That would take forever!!!

              • @jv: Not sure how you managed to make your basmati grains non-seperable otherwise.

                • @Jojo-Ma:

                  magnetism.

                  • @jv: Could you elaborate more on that?

Well if we could get specific on the rice (basmati in this occasion), then I guess you'd want to shed more light on what kind of magnetism involved; ferro, antiferro, ferri, diamagnetism, para, superpara, electromagnetism, etc?

        • Thanks JV for clarifying. What is a good price for the 5KG bag of India gate classic?

    • Let me know as I, too, was unable to get even one during the last deal.

  • I actually still prefer this Pakistani Basmati. It smells so nice while it is cooking. The whole home is aromatic when its getting cooked.

    • Sometimes I mix it up too, with India Gate or others.

    • Agreed. Tried a few different varieties but the Riviana Aged Basmati I have found to best the best, personally. Will give the standard 5kg bag a go, actually forgot to buy some at the shops today so this is fortuitous timing.

Totally different experience sorry, not the same.
India gate is premium rice, it is the length of grain and breakage as well.

I had a totally different experience!!!
Bought it once- didn't like it, and even the kids notice that the rice is different.
It is like chalk and cheese.

In the end, we used it either for fried rice, where the taste is disguised, and wife used it to make milk pudding (kheer) - a delicacy where you boil rice with condensed/ evaporated milk (and sugar) just to finish the rice.
I had to make a trip to buy "proper" rice (as per wife).
      Never buying it again.

      • What brand does your wife consider "proper" rice?

I saw the B&D vacuum in store yesterday, was tempted to buy but gave it a miss after doing a quick research on mobile. Seems like mixed reviews on it, which isn't surprising given the price bracket.

    • But it's a handheld vac shown in your link, whereas the other by Woolies is a conventional bagless, no?

    1380W, according to Black & Decker's website.
