Samsung 970 EVO Plus NVMe 500GB $139 ($117 after $22 Samsung Cashback) + Post / Pickup @ Online Computer

1120

Cheapest price yet for what is basically the gold standard and IMO best value size for a boot drive. They've been reducing the price a few $ each week so if your game you might want to wait it out, I bought last week at $146;(

I was going to pay with CC for price protection but it was not an option so paypal it was.

Info on the cash back thread shows successful redemptions from this seller.

Postage was an additional $7.50 which is more reasonable than some and fast so no complaints there.

  • So it's $117 after cashback?

    • 117 cc
      117+7.5. Delivery

      • +1

Ehh that makes it a bit worse, too many stories of never receiving cashback and I'd personally just get a Kingston A2000 for $95 shipped at Centrecom. No cashback hassles, savings and no real world loss.

        • +4

I got two of these a few months ago and had no problem with cashback.

        • -2

Free del of Centre com sometimes get lost.
I had bad experience. The $7.5 delivery of online computer is not safe as well, you need choosed express post at least.

          • +1

            @Josh01:

            sometimes get list.

            What?

Edit: Lost, never had that experience. That's up to the courier, I doubt express will make a difference.

            • @Void: Lost

            • @Void: Online computer from my experience just won't send things.

          • @Josh01: Its signature required and tracking info was spot on. Along with paypal/ cc protection I feel its pretty safe

            • @mauricem: Currently, no signature at all.

I received one this week from online computer. The package goes into my mail box directly without knocking the door.

For express post, if no one at home, the package will be left in the post office.

              • @Josh01: Interesting, mine required pick up at post office. Just used cheapest option at checkout too. Delivery was to Sunshine Coast.

                • @mauricem:

mine required pick up at post office.

Safe drop is at delivery person / postmans discretion

                  • @Krogers: Mine must be very discrete then, always requires sig and ID at post office. Apart from the time they left a $2k nikon lens on the ground next to the letter box on a wet day;)

        • Thanks, reviews look like it's comparable to the 970 Evo Plus so I might get that instead.

        • It says pre order for the Kingston as it's OOS, but can't add it to cart, did you add it?

          • @D3m3ntia: Yeah I can't either. Next cheapest is $107 shipped at Umart, but at that point you should just get the EVO.

            • @Void: $139 + $7, wait a few months for Samsung cash, at this stage in considering the Kingston 1TB for $179 lol, I'm getting caught up in the upsize….

        • …too many stories of never receiving cashback…

The $22 cashback is from Samsung, not ShopBack or Cashrewards.

          https://www.samsung.com/au/offer/ssd-eofy-cashback/

But I'm curious to know if anyone has any had trouble getting the cashback from Samsung? Thanks.

          • @surethang: Nah I was talking about Samsung, I've gotten some cashback from Shopback but it seems if you ever get like more than $10 out of it the wait is endless.

            • +1

              @Void: Cool. Thanks.

I googled for people having problems with Samsung cashback. Some were obvious user-error issues with people not reading or understanding the conditions. But there were a couple where Samsung had apparently lost claims. Overall, there were nowhere near the number of issues we see with Cashrewards or ShopBack, perhaps because the volume is far less.

If anyone has an issue, remember you can take it up with the ACCC

        • I have claimed the Samsung cashback twice at different SSD promotions about a year apart and received them both. They deposit it about a month after the promo closes.

          • @Sleepycat3: Ehh that makes the savings a bit better, too many stories of receiving cashback but I'd personally still go for the Kingston A2000 for less. I think if you need the speed then this is worth it.

It is a deal if it’s 117 delivered.

  • Ah, I paid $146 last night!

    • Buy this and return the other, Easy

      • I paid $147.95 last week. :/

  • Damn just bought the 2.5" 1TB 860 Evo as well… my wallet is crying RN

  • -2

$22 seems high. Samsung itself is only offering $16 cash back on this drive.

  • Thanks

  • It's been a month already, and I still haven't got my cashback.

    • I hear it can take a long time.

  • I could buy 2TB Evo 860 at good price.

  • -1

980 Evo's round the corner, looking to be a PCI Gen 4 card with >5GB/sec - not too bad for a performance uplift for those using newer boards (b550/x570 etc)

    • +3

      980 Evo's round the corner

      There's always one…

  • I'm going to be selling my 6rh gen X1 carbon but it only has 128gb of storage. If I bought this is it easy to then just do a clean windows install on the new hard drive? I don't need to transfer anything else across.

    • +1

Should be fine if you have the installation media. For those who need to clone their existing drive instead, the Crucial MX and BX drives allow free use of a restricted version of Acronis TrueImage which apparently allows you to clone your existing drive. This way is for me.

      • +1

        Or just use Macrium Reflect.

        • Can they clone to smaller drive?

          • @Chopel: If what you're cloning doesn't exceed the capacity then yeah.

            • @Void: Cool, I'll give it a try. Ta.

  • Can I use this with a PCI Express 2 adapter? Got an old HP elite 8300 SFF that works well for development.

  • Thanks - I got the 1TB for $279 + shipping, -cashback for a total of $244.81

the 1tb variant seems like a good deal. $279 with $42 cashback, factor in the $7 delivery and its $244 delivered

    • Lmao "was $279, 15% off". What are these guys on?

  • +3

    …500GB $139 Less $22 Cashback

    A better title would be:

    …500GB $139 ($117 after Cashback)

    • -2

Agreed. It's amazing how bad the titles are in this place, generally.

It's no harder to do them right.

i.e. "Some amazing deal [NT left-handed students only]

      v

"[NT left-handed students only] Some amazing deal"

Almost always see the first, very rarely the second. No harder, just requires thinking.

    • -6

Seriously?? You want me to do the maths for the challenged as well?
Item, price, seller and discount were all in the title.
I probably should have added post was extra but its all in this feed.
If I was selling or gaining something then I might be more careful about the message but this was a PSA so care factor is pretty low!

      • +3

What is $139 Less $22? What does that mean? We mean like it should be $139 minus $22 cashback or something.

      • +2

"Less $22 Samsung redemption at Online Computer" doesn't make sense. It's not about doing the maths for us, although that's always polite, it's about writing it in a generally accepted format.

      • +1

Op, please don't take it the wrong way.
It is just easier for readers to read the title "($xxx after Cashback)". This is commonly used title format on Ozbargain. Most Ozbargainers are interest in the final price.

  • +2

    40days cashback still not come

  • I am surprised mods haven't fixed that title yet, it makes no sense

  • +1

    No stock left.

  • Just fyi
    I have a 5 year old 860 evo ssd
Recently bought this one when I upgraded my pc, as a boot up drive or game this one has no real noticeable improvement
Most ppl that buy this will probably waste its potential
Imo unless you do editing or data transfer you are better at buying a 2gig ssd for same price

    • I'm in the same boat, 850 Evo 1TB SATA seems plenty quick for day to day stuff. For bootup and such you wont notice much, small increments on games but as data sets get larger (i.e. larger games) - it'll become (slightly) more apparent. I'm on the fence about buying one, sitting in my cart all week - fighting the temptation :-)

  • Reports out of stock once you add it into your shopping cart.

    • Sorry, we don't have enough 'Samsung 970 EVO Plus 500GB 3500MB/s V-NAND M.2 SSD MZ-V7S500BW (118886)' in stock to fulfill your order: we have 0 available. Please change the quantity on order in your shopping cart and click update. Then try to checkout again.

  • For anyone who missed out Shopping Express has them on sale for $153 + delivery which is still decent.

  • Looks like back in stock

  • Yes, back in stock (reported), just ordered one.

  • How long does normal shipping takes (to Melbourne)?

  • Well, the thing arrived in 3 working days, BUT, when I go to the Samsung cashback site, it says that the serial is invalid!!!
    Not so good…

    • Check this thread towards the end for some details on how to make sure you get the cash back. First thing to be sure of is that you have a 15 digit serial number from the drive not the 14 digit one on the box.

At least my credit card company allows price protection claims via PayPal.
