(PC) Watch Dogs 2 Keeps Glitching for Several Seconds

Hi guys,

Just got watch dogs 2 for PC and started playing tonight, but the game would freeze for 5-7seconds then run ok for several seconds, then freeze again. Makes it almost unplayable. I had a quick google and a couple of posts suggested enabling page file, and that helped, but it won't let me change it. Currently it says "Page File Size NONE".
I changed my Games drive to "system managed size" but it won't stay, keep reverting back to none.

I've also tried dropping some of the texture settings to see if that works, but nothing changed.

Any had issues like this for the game, and/or know what I can do to get it running better ?

specs:

Windows 7 64bit (service pack 1)

Intel 2600k cpu @ 3.40GHz 3.70GHz (don't know why there's two speeds mentioned)

Motherboard Z68XP-UD5

16GB RAM

Nvidia GTX1080 – driver version 451.48 (installed recently)

SSD HDD (Games drive) Samsung 860 EVO 1TB

What did a computer hardware/software related tech support forum say when you asked them?

    • Still waiting for a reply. Seems like this is a common issue with the game. Still googling for a solution to try :/.

Reset all settings to lowest & see if issue occurs. If it works fine on lowest. Increase graphics settings one at a time & see which setting triggers it.

If it still lags. You may have a driver issue. Could be the gpu as you just recently updated it & could be buggy. Revert to an old driver & see if issue occurs.

Alot if troubleshooting but you will find it.

    • Thanks, I'll try that and get back to you.

Looks like it was a driver issue. I tried a newer driver too (451.67), still stuttered but much less. Rolled back to 446.14 and so far seems OK.

Looks like other people had similar issues with Assassins Creed Origins too https://steamcommunity.com/app/582160/discussions/1/42417733…

Your CPU was released over 9 years ago. What does your CPU usage look like while you're playing? If it's at 100% that'll be your bottleneck. The two different speeds are the normal clock and boost.

Yeah that's a huge bottleneck, OP.

Grab a new mobo and CPU next time you see one here.

      • How do you compare both CPU and GPU to avoid bottleneck?

So far there's no major performance issues other than low FPS (in RUST), but I suck at that game so it wasn't a huge deal.

From what I've read the 2600k is still a good cpu ? Would it be worth trying to Overclock it to get a little more performance ?

If I do get a new CPU/MB, recommendations ? Ill probably need DDR4 ram too.

        • Overclocking it will breath some life into it.

I used this website to calculate bottlenecks.

I'd grab something like this mobo cpu combo.
Then RAM is quite cheap nowadays

The 2xxx was a great series and still work fine. But new games require more cores/other stuff that I can't think of.

    • Silly question, how do I check CPU usage in-game ? Task manager's only showing processes.

Click more details then performance tab
