      Ah dammit missed that :(

  • do you guys use this kind mobo to build a sli or crossfire? or just 1 graphic card and overlocking?

    • +4

Dual gpu is very rare these days. Drivers also aren’t always up to scratch for this these days, nor do many games support it anymore.

      • thank you. so I can use a basic x570 mb if I do use single graphic card. the over locking difference between high end mb and basic is minor?

        • Probably, but the manufacturers don’t want you to know that… MSI Godlike, we are looking at you…

    • I'm just going to go with a single card, right now flip flopping between a 2070 super or a 2080 ti.

Though a new line should be coming out soon so waiting isn't a bad idea either

Amateur question - what are the real world advantages to spending more on a mobo? B350 v B450 v X570. I understand the latter two will have support for the 3000 series, but other than the odd M.2 slot or better heatsinks what is my money actually getting me?

    • +1

these days, very little besides what you've already listed. sometimes there's other niche features like 10gb lan, and nvidia SLI licensing.

in the past, intel restricted overclocking to the more expensive mobos, and that habit even continued in 1st gen ryzen mobos.

recommend you check out this round-up, skip to the relevant section in timestamps.

      • will 10GB lan only be useful if you want fast direct internet? (via ethernet cable) ? -noob here

        • +3

i think it's actually used more for local networks where you want to share large files between members/workstations quickly. 10gbit/s internet is… rare.

          • @xrailgun: Yeah but you’re limited to read/write on drives/ports at both ends and also unless you have more expensive network gear most SoHo equipment is only 1Gb so…

      • So nothing I can't get with a couple of pic-e cards.

    • For Intel It makes senses buy a better motherboard due to OC if you are into that. For amd IMO It is a waste of money as there good boards for much less and the OC results may be the same

      • If i'm going with a build around $1000, what sort of mobo would you recommend? Planning to use the R5 2600 or something similar around that price range

        • B450 tomahawk. Legendary board for amd due to being damn good for its price. Around $200

          • @Dienk: Hmm I was strongly considering that but not sure I have space for that board given my relatively tight budget. Any good alternatives?

This is what I have right now, if you don't mind taking a look: https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/2v9sGc

            • @monkeyoutlet: Is that your full build? Do you really want the 2600 r5? Or you already have it?

              • @Dienk: Yep it's what I have at the moment. And nah, I don't have it bought yet + am not fully committed to it either. Just put it in since it seems like a good midrange option. If you have any good alternatives I'm happy to consider it

            • @monkeyoutlet: Nice. What you using it for?

    • +1

If you're talking about chipset alone then basically zen support for later series and for PCIe 4.

"B450 supports up to Zen 2, uses a Gen3 link, and hosts zero PCIe 4 and PCIe 3 general purpose lanes of its own"

A good detailed article from gamer nexus: https://www.gamersnexus.net/guides/3582-amd-chipset-differen…

TLDR if you don't care about PCI4 and are basically using a 2nd gen ryzen then don't bother with the x570.

    • You're basically paying for pretty, plus a third M.2 port and decent wifi built in. There's a couple of external buttons to simply the CMOS reset function, but which are a rarity to need to use. So compared to the cheaper available X570 boards you're paying a premium for pretty, high build quality and convenience of a couple of (potentially non-essential) extras.

      • Yes, pretty is important!

      • Better VRM so it can take the higher end CPUs with much less cooling and offer more stable OCs
      • Expensive means better support so the manufacturer is more likely to release updates to allow next gen CPUs (as long as socket doesn't change) to be used with the same board
      • Better audio and connectivity
      • Better bios software with a lot more features for a stable OC
      • More expansion slots without it having to throttle anything like m.2 throttling on some boards (full bandwidth)
      • More headers available for USB and SATA
      • Better RGB headers (dRGB and aRGB) available as well as just more headers
      • SLI/Crossfire support
      • Bios flashback
      • Dual Bios
      • Diagnostic tools and information displays
      • Better build quality

I am sure there are things I'm missing but this is the gist basically

Edit: replied to the wrong comment ahhhh

Usually the Master series offers the thunderbolt 3 expansion slot, very handy for those need the high through put between screen/Drives/multi devices

      • Fine to reply here I think, I avoided putting the specs in because I figured people wanted to go compare chipsets first as opposed to going over the board features but thanks for the breakdown.

I'm more keen on the dac and vrm capabilities, probably going to be spending lots of time on the bench and in the bios for a while.

Watch Buildzoid's run through of motherboards on the GamersNexus channel:
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGY2mqTn2rc

He gives a very good overview on what each tier would get you in terms of features but to summarise, better VRMs for overclocking, better memory traces for memory overclocking, RGB/aesthetics, more ports (SATA, USB headers etc.), features (WiFi, improved audio, BIOS flashback for updates without CPUs, POST code LED display) and better build quality (multi-layer PCBs allow for better OCs).

My advice is if you're prepared to spend this much money on a motherboard then aesthetics, RGB and cohesion for both will be important in which case, get the same tiered motherboard that matches your other components. ASUS GPU RGBs can't be controlled by Gigabyte motherboards and vice versa, so if I were spending ~$600 on a motherboard, I'd make sure my components match.

  • Currently in the process of planning a new PC build, is there any point in going for this board at this stage or would I be better off waiting for Ryzen 4 which is apparently coming in the near future?

    • +1

AMD have apparently quoted support for B550 and X570 for Ryzen 4th gen

      https://www.forbes.com/sites/antonyleather/2020/05/08/amd-co…

If you're talking about is it worth buying then you'd need to weigh it up. I'm currently running a 2nd gen i7 and an mobo of that gen so I figure it's time for an upgrade for Cyberpunk 2077.

    • +1

They have essentially said there will most likely be support for any 32mb flash ROM bios boards. That includes most (if not all) B450 and above boards. But then again it's up to the manufacturer of the board not AMD for the most part. However, it looks like as long as you have a B450, X470, B550 and X570 you will be fine.

Anytime is a good time to build if you can source parts with good prices. Arguably this is not the best time for GPUs and CPUs since they will be refreshed in the next few months. But something like a R3600 is cheap enough and capable enough that you can justify buying it now. Just find a cheap used GPU.

Make sure you buy a good motherboard so it can support Zen 3 as well. B550 is a bit pointless (I personally don't think PICE4.0 is gonna be that crucial soon). Just get a good B450 (Only good B450s are basically MSI Mortar Max or Tomahawk Max since they would require minimal cooling to run high end Zen2).

  • Wow that's a lot of coin for a motherboard, I paid like $125 for my x370

EDIT: come to think of it, I paid less for my X370+3700X together

    • Not sure why you were negged

      • lol me either, oh well

  • I went with an Aorus X370 with Gen1 ryzen. When I upgraded to R3700X I went with MSI X570. Simply because Aorus stopped releasing anything for the X370 board pretty soon after release. Their RGB software (RGB Fusion) is an absolute waste of time as it simply didn't work (e.g. Fusion could not see my Aorus 1080Ti card at all). MSI has been the complete opposite. That price seems insanely high for an X570 board?? are they really this much now?

  • As an owner of this mobo, that LED light on the 'Direct Touch' VRM heatsink, i swear it doesnt glow there that much if at all.

    • Hows your experience with RGB fusion? Seems to be such a hit and miss from the reports, I'm hoping it isn't as bad as they say but prepared to turn off the mobo rgb in the worst case.

  • this or the X570 taichi or the x570 Rog Strix E ?

    • I would also recommend the MSI X570 MEG ACE

    • gigabyte by far mate.

  • In stock on July 20, 2020.

I'm currently using Gigabyte X570 AORUS Extreme. The only reason I have this is because of WiFi6 and paired it with PCIex4. Little bit extreme for playing Diablo 3 and CoD. I do occasionally do photo editing but I still think I overkill on my usage…….

    • so this mobo is good…? is what youre saying?

      • I haven't had any issues with XTreme version. That version is one grade higher than this one. Overall, I haven't had any hiccup with mine over 1 year.

  • 6% off if use shopback (AMAZON only)

  • Buggy bios, nope
