Edit
Out of stock now unfortunately

I have been looking for a gooseneck kettle for awhile in order to get more control in making my pour over coffee. This is currently half the price it can be found in store. For some reason the smaller one comes up as more expensive ($75).

I ordered it last week even though it was out of stock at the time. Just got an update to say it's back so hopefully they have enough for a few orders.

Works with IH ranges, and gas and electric stoves.

Click the "Cheaper from other sellers" link and choose Amazon AU. For some reason it's switched over to US

Looks like out of stock at Amazon AU but can still be ordered

        No $44.75 by US either

Damnnnnn. Been wanting one of these.

    Any other options recommended?
Do they come in bigger capacity?

    • I have a 2nd hand 1L one I'm about to sell. PM me if interested.

What I do is pour from a regular kettle into one of these:

      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Stainless-Steel-Drip-Coffee-Pot-…

It works pretty well and being smaller and lighter, I think you'd get better control over the pour. Temperature wise, if you pour boiling water into it you'd immediately lose several degrees which would take you down to the optimal 90 to 95 degrees.

      • Keeping in mind it's all caffeine and an enjoyable hobby no matter how you do it but I thought I'd chime in like the Melbournian I am…

If you're using a goose neck to make pour overs, consistency is king and that includes water temp. You're better off using whatever kettle that you boiled it in so the temperature variance doesn't muddy your brew.

      • Unless you're pre-heating that secondary pot, pouring into it is almost certainly going to drop your water below 90

This link takes you to $44.75 option. I just placed a back order.

  • Price appears to have increased.

Nup you're all magicians I cant work it out how to get that price

Oh wow, I bought this last week at the OP's price because the price was good for local stock, but didn't post it here because I thought, "now who would even pay this much for a non-electric with a hipster spout?"
Glad to see some pour-over coffee nerds here!

    • I think a lot more people are going to give it a shot with the prolonged work from home orders. Making good pour over takes practice. Making good espresso takes practice… and a huge chunk of cash.

  • I swear, you need a masters degree in Spaceology to figure out how to get the lowest price on Amazon.

The South Asians may have an entirely different use for this.

I found this but only 900ml.

    https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/aw/d/B07D3LXBHC/ref=sspa_mw_det…

    Only $22.89 for 900ml.

    • This will do the job just fine. I have a Hario which got discoloured pretty badly as I left it on the electric stove after use. Might just get this.

    • This is a random no-name brand with no reviews. I was always looking to get a Hario but any reason not to get this?

      • Teapot body is embalmed

It'll last longer in the coffin

  • Does a goose neck kettle really make that much of a difference? I already have pretty good control with a regular electric kettle.

    • It's just nicer, but not neccessary. A regular kettle can splash a little bit unless you pour close and slow.

  • I got one years ago for below 30 when AUD was high. The inside where the neck joined the body rusted within a month. It was a common problem back then but they could have fixed it by now.

Really trying understand the use of this..Is it kind of safe or something …?

    • +3

It has a narrower spout for controlled pouring specifically for pour over coffee. There's a certain technique that coffee enthusiasts follow and having this tool is important for that. Just like any hobby, those who aren't in the know will find it unnecessary or unusual.

      • Makes more sense now…

For those who didn’t get it, unless you really care about the brand any other goose neck will do fine.

  • I had one of these and upgraded to a brewista, which incorporates a kettle/base and temp control.

    https://alternativebrewing.com.au/product/brewista-smart-pou…

Like them both tbh, but if I were doing it again, I'd go straight to a brewista (or similar brand).
