A very quick 1 page review of the laptop here:

    http://www.digitalversus.com/acer-aspire-one-happy-n55dq-p47…

  • Yeah normally its $360, well that's what we paid ..

  • Screen: 10.1 inches at max resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels :(

    My eyes!, they burn!

    • What's wrong with that?

    • -1

600 vertical resolution — sucks for Excel and word processing. You get even less vertical res considering the Windows taskbar, and ribbon interface.

That's why I hate netbooks — too slow to get anything done, and too low res to even word process properly. If you want productivity, the lowest resolution you should consider is a 1366x768 screen.

      • +1

I move the taskbar to the left hand side of screen to alleviate some of those issues.
In these days where we have oodles of sideways real estate and reduced vertical (with 16:9 ratio monitors the norm), Microsoft and Apple really need to get their systems designed for a vertical taskbar interface.

    • All "netbooks" are exactly the same - it's part of a standard set by Microsoft in order to qualify for Windows 7 Starter OEM license.

  • decent

    • +11

So in other words 99% of netbooks fail for you?

    • +12

Why are you even bothering to look at a netbook then?

    • +3

'I must buy an external one' (optical drive)

That's not true, I had one of the first generation netbooks and got along fine for years without one. Anyone that can google should be able to make a bootable usb drive/external drive.

      A dual core 10" netbook at $250 isn't 'fail'.

        • +3

Also where do you get the movies from to make them bootable, from internet??

          Um… movies…. bootable?

        • +1

"so I never said that this netbook is a 'fail'."

"No optical drive? I must buy an external one = fail
          Windows 7 Starter &amp? What's that? = fail
Windows 7 Starter = Emerging markets, cannot play DVDs = fail"

You actually reiterated the 'fail' aspect of this netbook several times. Just because it's been negatively voted to hell, doesn't mean we can't see your original comment.

I meant it's possible to make an external hard drive or usb stick into a bootable drive.

"Also where do you get the movies from to make them bootable, from internet??"

That link should answer any other questions for you.

It's not my fault if this notebook is built for not developed countries (or emerging countries) so you should blame the guys who imported it into Australia.

That was one of my points that together with "no DVD" player capability (plus other limitations) will imply that you've to buy an external optical dvd player.
Tell me how do you transfer a DVD movie on "disk" to this netbook and specifically how do you play it back.

I spent time to give the web links related to those findings but it seems that here there are many OW fanbois or employees who don't like "any" comment other then their even if supported by FACTS!
About the negative votes I got read above "fanbois" also why do you care so much?
Are you personally selling this netbook?

It's not a notebook it's a netbook. Netbooks have always lacked a cdrom drive. This is the way it has been since the first netbooks by Asus. It was done to keep its size down.

I spent time to give the web links related to those findings

          Obviously not enough time.

OW has nothing to do with what a netbook is.

It's time you took a deep breath and spent some time in the real world. If you definitely need a cdrom drive then either you get a usb one or a netbook is not for you.

Until you realise that you'll keep getting negged.

        • +1

@dealhunt from reading your post, it seems like people would be be giving you negs because of the language of your tone. They don't have to be OW reps or 'fanbois'

          • "That was one of my points that together with "no DVD" player capability (plus other limitations) will imply that you've to buy an external optical dvd player."

Simple. Then a netbok isn't for you- But it is for other people like myself who want something portable and light for school. I already have a laptop. It weighs 2.6kg and i hate having to carry this heavy piece of crap all around the campus. If i wanted to watch DVDs, i'd use my desktop or this laptop.

Corbz wasn't even being rude to you and you decided to take offense. Browsing through your previous posts, it seems you do this a lot.

Not everyone requires an optical drive like you do. The word 'fail' is being so arrogantly overused nowadays and it really annoys me.

    • +1

Makes the thing LIGHTER to carry, for the 90% of the time your WON'T be using an optical disk.

      Thinner, too. Great for traveling.

PS How long does this puppy's 6-cell battery last, ie, compared to ASUS's…?

    • I don't think you "get" the concept and usefulness of a netbook.

Mobile phones don't have optical drives either, are they FAIL too?!?

  • -8

A netbook for $249 is no longer a bargain. You can get a Notebook for $299 now.

    • +1

Will that notebook be as light and portable as the netbook and will it have the typical netbook battery life? (6-8hrs+).

    • +3

so its not a bargain when you pay less?

    • If you can get a notebook for $299, a netbook at $249 sounds good to me.

  • +4

Good price for a 6-cell battery.

  • +1

BTW. This does have a glossy screen.

  • Prices are going to drop soon, better to wait for a while if it's not a must.

    • +3

Price of current technology ALWAYS spirals down over time, if you wait for the lowest price ever you'll NEVER buy!

      • +3

Excellent idea! Then I'll save even MORE…

        & have time for family & friends, for a change… ;-)

[Just kidding, folks… Nothing to see here, move along.]
