Sous Vide Stick $79.99 @ ALDI

220

On upcoming special buys from Aldi.

4 preset functions
Clear touch display
Integrated water circulator with active control thermostat
Adjustable timer
Includes fixing clip and rack

Looks to be similar form factor as an Anova, but with a giant springload clamp instead of Anova's screw mount clamp. Comes with a stand, which is nifty. Might be good for those who want to pick something up from their local instead of ordering online. Reminder that Aldi have 60 days return, no questions asked. This SV stick also comes with a 3 year warranty, which typically just means you get a full refund as they don't keep additional stock on hand.

Also available are $59.99 vac sealer and $14.99 vac sealer refills (40 bag pack or 2 roll pack).

I thought it was a Sous Vide Drone for a moment there.

  • Seems expensive for no wifi.
Pay extra $10-20 for a inkbird.

    I love the wifi feature!

    • Inkbird looks like it's $125 on Amazon, not sure where you can get one for under $100.

I've had an Anova since the Kickstarter, realistically I've never really used the connectivity features. What do you personally use the Wi-Fi for?

      • You can get the Inkbird for $99 (Ebay Au), when they're on sale.

      • I find it super handy to know when it is finished.

Especially since I'm WFH now, and have quite alot of meetings, I can set up the sous vide and pouch 1hr before hand or during a gap in my schedule. Then use my phone during the meeting to turn it on so it starts heating process / cooking.

Also setting time and temperature easier on the phone than messing with buttons on the unit.

Yes you could work around all of this by using timers etc, but no way to work around remote turn it on.

You can still order the inkbird off their AU ebay store for $97.

    • I got an InkBird and it's great. Never got around to setting up the wifi.

Anyway one day my sous vide was on for a few hours and I was busy trying to flash some Tuya-based smart switches OTA. Anyway, I set it up and before I get a chance to plug a switch into the power my screen starts saying "Loading firmware"… And I'm super confused because I didn't plug anything in.

Anyway, long story short I flashed Tasmota on my InkBird sous vide. I can't set up the app now nor flash back but the good news is you don't lose any functionality of the screen based settings so it still functions. Bonus - I now have a new task to try and control it via Home Assistant ;)

      • Can you do anything with it tho

  • Is this a probe?

I have one of these, exact model, and I only have good things to say about it!
The manual gives basic cooking times for different types of food and it’s pretty simple to operate. Recommend to anyone interested in sous vide

    • Hey jasong, can you tell me if your device makes an intermittent clicking sound while in use? Mine does and I'm thinking maybe this is not normal.

Wonder if you can buy the stand on its own

  • Any luck finding stocks in Perth?
