  • Hmm, wonder if the battery would explode if I stuck the unit to the side of the smoker. It normally runs at about 125C. Probably not a good idea right?

    • Would have thought it's fine - it's not going to be 125 on the outside is it? Mine usually runs about 100 on the inside, but not much over 50 on the outside.

      • Well, its just a metal box, I imagine it being roughly the same temp as the internal temp. I've never tested it more than an accidental drunken lean though.

Suppose the description does mention sticking it to oven, drum, smoker.

        • Well if you can touch it, it's probably safe enough for the thermometer

Why would you want to/need to stick it to the side of the smoker? I just leave it on the ground.

Have tried this… the smell of plastic alerted me to some meltage (additional unlisted feature?) so I took it off before we got to battery exploding heat levels.

Safe to say it's not intended to stick to the cooker.

Still works fine though, and they're a great value piece of kit even at full price.

The one caveat - the bluetooth connection is proving irritating. If you're doing a long cook you'll probably disconnect a few times, which resets the temp and time tracking. If I were to get one of these today I'd stump up for the wi-fi version.

      • Well I've already ordered this one, I wasn't so interested in the app to be honest. I'll magnet the unit to the handle on the side of the smoker, should be cool enough, and visible enough.

      • 2nd point in the FAQ that came with it. "Can I put this unit in high temperature places?" - No it can't. The plastic magnet temperature should not over 80F/176F…

Any discount in the wifi model : IBBQ-4T?

    • For somereason they never seem to come on sale. Cheapest I've seen is around the 135ish mark off ebay.

    • I'd totally be in on this!

      • I already have an instant thermometer and that’s the regular price for the package I have been seeing for many weeks now. Would you do a better deal on the probe unit only?

  • Would love to see a deal on the 2 probe IBT2X :)

Does this model have a minimum and maximum temp setting ? So the alarm triggers if either temps are reached.

    • +1

It does. You can set temp ranges as well, which is good for monitoring the temp of the cooker. You can also add your own custom presets, which is very handy.

      • Thank you sir 👍 I love my thermo pro but, not having an alarm for under temp is starting to bug me.

  • Would this be a better option over the ThermoPro TP20 because they are similar in price?

    • See my question above.

I have the TP20 and the only negative is no alarm when the temp gets too low. The ink bird gives you that setting plus 4 probes Vs 2 on the thermo pro, rechargeable battery and an app for viewing the cook. I have never used this unit, but on paper, it is better IMO.

  • Thanks OP,
