Is this legit? They're running a competition that closes on 22 July for a prize that doesn't even have a release date yet (although is unlikely to be before October at the earliest)? They don't even state where it's coming from, although the fact that the closing date is given in PST suggests the US - so they'll send you a US model from over there? Or they'll obtain one locally for you? Or people outside the US aren't eligible?
Has anybody entered anything with this mob before? Seems like a scam to scoop up a bunch of personal info?
Sweeps contests happen several times a month. I've been entering them (and posting them here) for a few months and so far I haven't won from Sweeps itself, though I was runner up in a different Gleam contest last month (won a mousepad and some other stuff, sweet).
No idea about the legitimacy of them; I assume that the contests are open to Australia because the Terms and Conditions don't say otherwise, and occasionally some Sweeps/Gleam contests will in fact specifically state that they are only open to U.S., Canada, etc. As for this particular contest (unreleased PS5), you make valid points, and I don't have answers to those questions.
As for collecting data, well, I'm not so bothered, and that's me personally. It's not much effort to perform the actions of following, subscribing, etc., and ads and data collection are facts of internet life. I can handle spam, myself.
Yeah, I get that - as data collection goes, this kind of thing is probably intended for marketing (although if the wrong people get hold of their data then you don't know what they're gonna do with it). But yeah, my concern is more about the legitimacy of the competition and the prize. Although if it's free to enter then you have to assume they're getting something out of the deal which, I assume, is your personal info.
