nbn Woes (HFC, Tangerine Telecom) - Using BYO NF18ACV (Previously Spintel) ADSL

Basically as per title.

Finally moving off my Spintel ADSL to Tangerine HFC NBN.

I originally bought the NF18ACV with the plan to use it for NBN.
Now I need to change some settings within my modem's details from a browser, but can't work it out.

Can someone more techy than me please advise?

So far:

  • NBN box is connected to wall, all 4 lights are on.
  • NBN Box is connected to modem via ethernet cable to WAN port on modem, WAN light is on, and so is INTERNET light. But no internet connection.

Tangerine tech support weren't able to help me…

Thanks so much in advance!

    1. Open a web browser and type http://192.168.20.1/ into the address bar at the top of the window
    2. At the login screen, type admin in the username and password field, then click the Login button.
    3. Click on the Basic Setup menu item on the left side of the screen.
    4. Select Ethernet WAN then click the Next button.
    5. Select IP over Ethernet (IPoE). Click Next
    6. Select No VLAN Tag. Click Next
    7. Select Obtain an IP address automatically. Click Next
    8. Click Apply/Save

      5) PPPoE with your Tangerine account username & password.

    • Thanks very much for your help here!

But the problem here is that I have no Basic setup option. Just Advanced setup. Any ideas?

Select Advanced Setup > WAN service, click Add and use the same settings above but instead of IPoE, select PPPoE as Twix and charlesql says. If you can't add a WAN service, go to Advanced Setup > Layer 2 Interface > ETH interface and click Add. After adding a ETH interface, add the WAN service.

        • Thanks so much mate.

I'll try this when I get back home, if I have any more questions, I'll let you know. :)

  • Another point is that sometimes the password is blank for modem login screen. You can generally search on google "modem# web login" - something like that.

    Tangerine is PPPoE

    • I just joined tangerine yesterday
Have to leave your modem connected for a while before it works, took about 30 minutes for me but they say wait up to 2 hours

      • Hows your speeds?

        • I went with the XL plan
          Currently getting 35/18

      • Out of curiosity, when it wasn't working get for you, bit it was set up, did you get a message when trying to use your browser saying that it wasn't activated yet?

  • You need to receive an email from Tangerine saying "Your NBN service is ready to go!"
It will contain instructions and other credentials. If not then you need to wait longer.

    • Yep, got this message this morning… still haven't been able to connect :(

  • Also, once Tangerine becomes active and working, does my former Spintel plan automatically stop? Or do I have yo contact them?

    • You have to cancel your Spintel plan. It's possible to have both ADSL and NBN HFC at the same time.
