    Pretty sure it's refurbished

  • +1
  • It’s new in box not referb

  • Just purchased, cash rewards is tracking this at 3%, so received $11.70 back for the purchase

  • Is this like a Thermomix? Are they any good?

    • +1

The big difference will be the speed. This gets to 2300rpm the Thermomix gets to 10700rpm.

  • There is plenty of models and not sure what the difference is?? Refurbished is expensive and apparently a different model number . Has anyone used this before? Stacey looks like she knows what she is talking about in other similar deals perhaps she can enlighten us (yes, I tried to send her a pm but it’s blocked unfortunately). Has anyone used these?

  • +3

I don't know why, but I just bought one …

  • +6

Thanks OP! Stacked 10% off UNiDAYS and Student Beans and club catch trial for a final price of $386.10

    • I am $42.90 poorer …

I have a StudentBean code now, PM me if anyone wants to be $42.90 richer …

      • Hi I’d love the code but don’t know how to PM?

        • +1

          You made it ;p

          The code is gone …

    • Also try coupon code CATCH8VTB if you don’t have Unidays

    • Hi do you mind sharing the screenshot of your order with me please? I would like to use to talk to Cath customer services to see whether I can get that price. It’s back to $699 now. Thanks!

  • What does it do. Is it like a pressure cooker?

    • Looks like a good processor that can cook. Doesn't look like it pressure cooks

      • Are they handy?

  • I'm in the market for a Magimix 4200XL, should I look at this instead? Any other options I should consider?

    • +2

This machine can only chop and whisk and blend. The 4200XL has grating and slicing. You can purchase a food processor attachment, but it’s $499. This machine does cook, however, which the 4200XL doesn’t.

    • +1

I've got both.. This product sits in my cupboard, and the 4200XL sits on my counter and gets used all the time. The Magimix is a great product.

    • If you want a thermo cooker with food processor functionality, have a look at the Kenwood kCook Multi Smart CCL450SI. Looks like an amazing machine with good reviews.

    • Magimix also have amazing warranty. I wish I used mine more! highly recommend

    • Thanks guys, I'm sold on the Magimix then

      • You might want to check out the Magimix Cook Expert. It’s Magimix’s take on the Thermomix-type machine, but with the addition of the bowls, blades and discs of the 5200XL food processor (except the dough blade and citrus press). You get the best of both worlds.

Here’s a very in-depth comparison between the Magimix and Thermomix: http://www.thefloshow.com/magimix-cook-expert-vs-thermomix/

        • Yeah that one is way above my budget, but cheers anyway

  • Haha darnit I got so excited at the chance of a huge saving when the deal was posted saying 'Normally $2,099'and went on a research spiral. Thanks for whoever revised it so noone else gets disappointed. Still a nice saving.

    • +2

Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong
$799 is what catch.com.au says they are selling them for before they went on sale.
$2,099 is what kitchenaid.com.au says their original price is before they went on sale. https://kitchenaid.com.au/collections/cook-processor

I can’t verify if these original prices are correct. I’ve only seen their sale price. Just what the respective websites say.

We have one for about 4 years. It kept the wife happy for about 2 weeks and although it's seen more action than I have over the past 4 years, we are both obsolete, gathering dust until a new owner comes along.

    • Now is your opportunity to flog it to someone here for $300 bucks, hardly used

  • This device could be termed the baby food maker for adults. It's like a food processor, cooker (it contains a heating element) and steamer built into one machine - it boils, blends, fries, purees, and steams in one device. It has manual and timer modes.

It makes steamed rice, soups, stews, stir fries and dough or pastry.

It is not a pressure cooker, it doesn't make icecream (that is it doesnt contain a cooling system), and it's not an airfrier.

The app helps you design one pot wonder meals so it's good if you want to create a quick meal by throwing everything into the pot, pressing the go button and setting the timer.

  • Don't impulse a purchase a pressure cooker unless you really can afford it or that it is cheap. I bought a phillips one and I really like it. Had it for about a year and I've used it around 20 times.

Unless you have a recipe or eat a certain dish that requires a pressure cooker often, then it's really not worth it.

All the curries, pasta, etc I cook conventionally, I don't even bother pressure cooking it because it has to heat up, cook, then steam release. All of which takes more than the 10-20 minutes of cooking time.

    • +6
      1. This is not a pressure cooker.
      2. You save way more than 20 minutes time with a pressure cooker. Meat cooking 40 mins in the pressure cooker comes out tender like a 3+ hour slow cook. I still use both methods but the pressure cooker is defo more time effective.
      3. Pressure cookers are by no means expensive. Less than $100 at kmart.
      • I bought the crockpot multi cooker from Goodguys at the last deal for about $100 and have used it almost daily since.
Excellent for soups, rice, meat, porridge, curry

        • how do you find it for making rice? Would you use it over a regular rice cooker?

          • +1

@Jackson: The rice from a pressure cooker tastes better. I sold my rice cooker years ago and have been using the pressure cooker for cooking rice ever since.

            • @muppet: I'll need to give this a go next time I make some

    • +2

      I (respectfully) completely disagree

A pressure cooker is a one pot, set and forget. Just chuck in whatever you want and let it cook. Will depressurise itself. Nn need for stirring. Will usually stay warm until you're ready to eat. Means you don't have to keep watch over a pot of curry on the stove and keep stirring it.

The philips one we have has been a life saver with two kids. Takes five mins to chuck in the ingredients and come back to it when i can - food is ready and warm.

Anyone having kids soon or wanting to spend less time in the kitchen - then starting with a pressure cooker is a great option

  • I have used the thermocooker sold by Aldi and would think this is similar. Been using the Aldi version every week to cook. This looks like an upgrade to me and hopefully will cook better.

    • If you have the Aldi cooker you will probably not need this one.

      • But this one looks way nicer..:)

        • If you have the money why not.

          • @jamba: Got to sell the Aldi version first!

  • What do people use these for? Trying to justify the cost as I like the tech hahaha

    • in short, it's a multi-stage cooker (I just made that up btw, I don't know if people call them that.

E.g. Instead of chopping up pumpkin, cooking in a pot, and then putting it in a blender, and then stirring in cream (to make soup), this saves you doing some of the steps, e.g. you can coarsely chop pumpkin, it will cook, then blend unattended, so you have to do less, which many people see as a benefit. Also you can just replace for example your blender and slow cooker with this, so cut down on appliances (although I don't know anyone who actually has)

(not sure what this particular one has as features, but you get the idea)

      • +1

That's how I imagine it - it just cooks and then it just blends. Or the other way round. Or one of those. Then it's a bit harder to clean than a regular pot and a decent blender jug.

  • Anyone generous enough to share unidays 10% code? Thanks

    • They ban people for sharing codes publicly in the past. Not saying don't share. Just letting you know.

  • +1

Ok, based on the small amount of reserach I've just done…

Its quality and cooking functions are comparable to a Thermomix
    BUT
If you're relying on a KitchenAid-supplied app for recipes and step-by-steps, forget about it….it's absolutely non-functional.

So you either rely on the limited number of recipes from other cook processor enthusiasts that you can find online or adapt your own recipes using thermomix recipes as a guide.

    For that reason..I'm out

    • There are recipes at http://cookprocessor.kitchenaid.com.au/recipes and also a couple of helpful Facebook groups

      • Ok I'm still not convinced. I saw that page before you commented and 2 of the first 5 I clicked were broken links.

Going back, those 2 were just outliers…most of the recipes can be accessed…but using the filter function to narrow it down…no dice

    • That's a very strange reason to not buy a machine that has this functionality. You don't need exact recipes for this as it will make whatever you want it to from any recipe book. At least that's how these things work for me. Each to their own and in no way am I endorsing this but seems like a very strange reason in my opinion.

  • I'm in the market for a food processor/blender, but saw this and am wondering if it's a good option as I'm about to go back to work with two small kids so the cooking/thermomix element might come in handy.

The main thing I would use a food processor for it making breadcrumbs/crush biscuits for cheesecake bases etc, and I want a blender to make ice based drinks.

Would this do the job or would I be better off buying dedicated appliances for those things?

    • I have another branded version that's similar (but probably not as impressive). These are really good when making things that you need to constantly stir when heating - say risotto or heating up milk to around 80c for yoghurt without it burning or for making soups such as pumpkin - it cooks it and then you blend it in the same pot. Less mess, etc… This one has a much larger bowl than mine which i think is a fantastic improvement. I'm really broke but also tempted… Ugh..

  • The wife got one of these when they first went on sale for $1999 (ouch).

It comes with several attachments such as a stirrer, slicer, steamer, etc. It’s good for cooking risotto, pasta, stews, steaming vegetables, basically anything you can do in a pot or frypan, except it’s a single unit.

There are various programmed recipes you can follow or more generic options such as fry for 10mins, steam for 20mins, stir and simmer for 5mins, etc.

It’s a good buy at this price considering it’s original price as long as you are disciplined enough to use it on a regular basis and not let it gather dust.

Buy the catch monthly for $6.50 as postage was $35 for me.

  • +1

    Thanks OP, bought one

  • I bought one when KitchenAid first released them. Although it functioned well, the thing I hated the most was cleaning it. I'm not sure if it's changed since then, but it all had to be washed by hand since it wasn't dishwasher safe. Pasta sauce kept getting stuck in spots under the lid that I couldn't clean properly. The other letdown was the lack of recipes compared to Thermomix. I've since been given a hand me down Thermomix from my sister and have sold the KitchenAid.

    • This one is dishwasher safe and the lid has been redesigned.

I have a bellini supercook and use recipes for the TM and other devices. Don't understand why some find it difficult to convert recipes from one machine to another?

      • +2

        Thank goodness for that!

I really didn't use it enough to get to experiment with other recipes. The dread of washing it meant it eventually just stayed in its box for after we moved, and then eventually sold before we moved again. If I had more experience using the machine, I probably would have eventually used other recipes.

That being said, there are a lot of people out there who only know how to follow specific recipes without the need of conversions. It may be easy for you, but it doesn't mean it's easy for everyone.

        • Sure it may be difficult for some recipes - but don't most just have standard measurements, temperatures and times? I've used a few recipes made for TM and the only trouble I had was deciphering temperature names like Varoma. Not having a go, genuinely interested. I'm considering this as the bowl is over 2x bigger (than my Supercook)!

  • Decided to buy one, as it was much cheaper than a Thermomix and the reviews I read (including on Ozbargain: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/466285) confirmed the quality. At this price you could probably flog it off on Gumtree if you didn't want it. I have a mutli-cooker (stewing and risotto) and a food processor, so we'll see if it can replace those two.
And I did the catch membership — it was 1 month free for me to save a $12.95 on shipping.

    • That review in the previous ozbargain post of the Kenwood kCook Multi Smart made me look. That is an amazing machine for only $140 more. Shame it's a bit too big for my liking.

      • which kcook are you referring too? thanks

  • Has it got built in scales?

    • No it doesn't.
Is this an important feature? I find when cooking I prefer to weigh things before I add them in because if you add too much it may be impossible to retrieve (eggs, water, salts and herbs, etc…).

      • important for those ingredients which are not very precise.

        • But can't you take the bowl off and place it on a digital scale when you do that? That's what you need to do with the Kenwood KMS, though it's a smart scale and integrated with their app, so can adjust recipes on the fly.

  • Good deal regardless, even better if you can get 10% off with Unidays coupon which brings it to around $386 + $6.50 shipping (sign up for 1 month). Less than $400, they are selling used on ebay for around $400-$450. So if you don't like it, you can probably recoup most of your money.

  • Price is back to $699!

    • Was a pretty good deal, expected it to get smashed a bit harder. I guess it was at an awkward price, wasn't a "don't think, buy now" price like $250, but was still reasonably cheap if you stacked all of the offers you could get it down to $386.10

  • Had in cart this morning came home……sad.

  • Anyone who successfully purchased at $429, don't suppose you could PM me a screenshot of your order confirmation/invoice? Catch Customer service has requested evidence of item at this price (i had it in cart yesterday morning went out and when i got home it had updated).

    • Just follow up on this. Can someone share a screenshot to me as well? Missed the deal…

    • Unless they had a major outage that would be the first time I've heard of a company honoring a price in a cart you didn't process. Not sure why you'd expect the price not to change, depending on the system adding an item to a cart might give you 5 minutes to complete but never hours!

      • It was on the same day, and who said it was hours.

    • +1

I posted a screenshot from a facebook public post below for you. I saw a few groups had shared it. Happy to PM an invoice image without my details if the screenshot wasn't enough. We got the student price.

  • Ordered this on Thursday night, was shipped Friday and received today (metro Melbourne). Opened it and realised it doesn’t have ‘Artisan’ written on the sides despite the item description being ‘Artisan Cook Processor’ and the photos on Catch showing the item with ‘Artisan’ written on it.

Probably not a huge deal but has anyone else received theirs and noticed the same thing?

    • Yeah mine to.

Does anyone know the difference apart from the name?

      • Hmm makes me wonder whether they were clearing non-Artisan stock. Have submitted a query to both Catch and Kitchenaid although not holding my breath on a quick reply.

        • I'm sure it's the same and you got a good deal, just marketing embellishment.

          • @bogstation: Yeah it was a fantastic deal for sure. Just keen to see what Catch/Kitchenaid come back with. Will update once I have an answer.

        • I got a fairly quick reply asking for photos.

          • @roddy84: yes that's from the CS bots, then they send it to someone who may know.

            • @bogstation: UPDATE

Spoke to Kitchenaid today and they were extremely helpful. The Marketing team use photos of US stock from time to time so the photos uploaded on the Kitchen website and Catch are actually of American stock. I’ve been advised there is no Australian stock of the Cook Processor with the ‘Artisan’ trimband. These ones from Catch are perfectly fine.

              • @FemmeFatale: Thanks for the update. Great to know nothing dodgy was happening.
