Depends on WHICH Dell monitor.
This is a cheap TN panel, so just wont give as good a display as the Dell Ultrasharp range which are IPS panels, but is comparable to their 'professional' series monitors in build quality and warranty.
Samsung do better panels with VA technology rather than TN technology.

Comparing TN and IPS and VA is a bit like comparing LCD and Plasma - they are just so different.

Very low res for a 27", but then again very good price for a 27" at pretty much any resolution.
Most 27" are 1920x1080. Only a very small handful of very expensive screens have higher res.
Some people like 1080p for a 27".

yet people hardly complain about full hd 42", 50" , 60" or even 70" plasma's and LCD's, but soon apple will release a 1,600,000,000 x 1,000,000,000… 32 inch "retina display lcd screen" that'll be the day

You can get such things for home theatre and I presume it would work for the laptop as well.
