Wouldn't Samsung Evo be cheaper after cashback?

    • +21

I don't think its crucial to choose this…

      • +7

Solid deal nonetheless, but I’m my current state I won’t drive there

        • +2

Either way, there's no spinning it. The Evo is a better deal as it's cheaper after cashback.

          • @Munki: If the cashback actually works, and the EVO really isn't superior to the MX500 short of maaaybe warranty length.

            • @Void: Spec Sheets at 30 paces

            • @Void: I never said it was superior. Their performances are essentially the same, but the Evo is a better deal after cashback is what I'm asserting.

    • Yeah the Samsung deal works out to quite a bit cheaper. I don't have a preference between Samsung and Crucial so decided to buy the Samsung instead.

  • +2

Had a couple of these over the years and they’ve been great.

Of course if you can get your hands on the Evo they’re better.

But for the ordinary user the MX will do just fine.

    • +1

EVO and MX is about the same in performance in quality. They both come with a year warranty. MX500 1TB user here (also have Samsung 970 Plus NVMe).

      • Yep.. The read/write results on MX & EVO are so close even if just 15 bucks cheaper for an MX I'd choose that.. I've also got both EVO & MX SSD's.

      • +4

        5 year warranty.

  • +9

Plus delivery plus credit card surcharge.

  • +2

Definitely time I think I pull the pin on a Curcial DDS

    • +3

      I prefer the Cruclia DSD.

      • +3

Between these two and the Curclia SDS, I have no idea which one to buy!

  • +18

$86 + delivery + credit card surcharge since OP didn't include in their post

  • +1

    Price in title please.

  • +3

    Woohoo a free ssd

  • +3

You're really making us work for the price huh

  • +2

Just to note, the OP actually included the price originally…was revisioned out with extra details added. :)

  • Not sure about the difference with this one https://www.amazon.com.au/Crucial-BX500-480GB-NAND-2-5-inch/… but just a bit cheaper and free delivery with Prime

    • +15

BX is crap compared to mx

    • +6

BX has no DRAM Cache which makes them slower and not suitable as a boot drive, they are ok as a storage/games library drive :)

      • +1

Good to know too scud. Thanks. Here's an upvote for ya.

        • +1

          haha welcome and thanks :)

      • I've never noticed the difference between a DRAMless SSD and one with DRAM, am I stupid or is there on real world difference?

        • Usually only see an issue copying large files, gf has a BX 250gb as boot drive and her system is great.

          • @Mickice: I'll even go as far as saying the average user won't really care about file copy speeds as long as it's faster than a hard drive, but the added longevity of a DRAM cache is nice.

    • Good to know, thanks for the info. Avoid then!

  • Just purchased 2. See how long it takes them to arrive.

  • Was about to say 'dammit' as I got one from Amazon recently for $92, but realised this doesn't include shipping … and now reading cc charge.

  • Thanks OP. Needed a good SSD deal for eofy.

  • First time dealer

The first hit is free^H^H^H^H$86 + shipping + payment method surcharge.

  • Tempted to buy one even though I have no use for it.

    • +1

happy for you to buy one for me if you want 😉

  • Are these made in US or China. Just worried about warranty on China products due to their trade war with us.

    • +4

lol doubt anything is made in the US these days

    • Micron is an American company that manufactures most in the US and Singapore. But why would a non chinese company manufacturing in china affect warranty

    • mate the yanks are waging war on china - since we become american stooges we now act against our old biggest trading partner because our pollies are owned.

oz is so screwed already economically as a consequence, and for a lot of people when the lights eventually go out no-one will care a damn.

its so funny the latest minor indian trade deals with their fascist leadership, because we are now going to join them in the front line. Die and be happy for the good old usa

  • Which Samsung evo 500 works out cheaper than this?

    • It's in the top deals sidebar…

  • Was $195.00. Ha, tell em their dreamin'

  • I've been looking at SSD deals for my Pc, both for price (Samsung promo helps, thanks OzB) and data durability.

    Crucial specs:
Sequential read: 560MB/s - Sequential write: 510MB/s - Random read: 95K IOPS - Random write: 90K IOPS AND durability is 180TBW for 500gb
(TBW info from review site, couldn't find it on Crucial site).

Vs Samsung Evo 150TBW (info from datasheet), interesting info indeed.

    Hope someone finds this useful.

  • I want to install one of these in an Asus K50IJ laptop. Are all the required cables included? Can I clone my laptops hard drive and swap it in so it will work straight away? Are there any YouTube videos that can help? Cheers.

    • +2

This SSD fits into the same slot as your existing hard drive. It's considered good practice to avoid cloning if you want the best performance out of your SSD. I'd recommend you back up your data on to an external disk, install a fresh copy of the OS on the SSD and restore your files from the backup.
