  • Hitachi still make their goods in Japan :)

  • Not bad!
I paid 399 for mine at JB HiFi for Soniq one, super happy with it as a 3rd monitor
This one costs 100 more but its a decent brand and 100hz!

  • +1

Wow, i thought they stopped importing into Australia awhile ago.
My Hitachi Plasma has been over 10 years and still ticking perfectly.

  • Would make a good computer monitor. Mine's a Soniq HD 32" on special at JBHIFI a few months back. A 42" would be nicer. Attempts to pass over the Soniq to my wife failed miserably.

    • +3

Would make a good computer monitor.

Using a 42" TV as a computer monitor isn't my cup of tea; the huge pixels would drive me crazy. For the price, I'd much rather something like the Dell U2711 (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/54550), which has 78% more pixels.

      • I use a 42" as a computer monitor, i hang it on the wall, its not bad :)
pretty good for watching videos and playing games
        looks great :)

        • +5

I guess it all depends on what the primary use of your computer is; if it's more consumption of content rather than work, and you don't sit close to the screen, then the TV might be a acceptable choice. :)

        • agreed :)

        • when did you check your power bill last time :p , my pc run 24 x 5 i can't afford anything more than 50W

        • hm my pc is on 24/7 and the tv is on when im on my computer.. maybe 4-5 hrs a day..
wow that sounds pretty bad actually
Now you got me rethinking my power usage :S
I feel guilty of wasting resources now… :(

        • If you're going to sit far away from the TV, you might as well just use a small monitor! You gotta sit close to the screen! :D

          ^ wears glasses :(

Can't seem to find LCFC05AU on Hitachi's site? Can only find LCEC05AU:

    http://www.tempoaustralia.com.au/hitachi-1/lcd-televisions/1…

I'm assuming the one sold by Big W is a newer model?

    • It's the same model. On the actual BigW site (as opposed to Lasoo) the model is L42EC05AU.

  • niceee

I'm looking for a tv. Would you recommend this one or the Sony Bravia 40" $688 from DSE?

  • They also have Logitech MK260 for $22…cheaper then LSO!

    http://www.bigw.com.au/electronics/computers-office/computer…

EDIT: OOps my bad they have the MK250 only…not the Mk260…doh! Weird - the item is labelled "Logitech MK250/260 Wireless Keyboard And Mouse Set" but the pic is that of a Mk250…

    • the MK250 was on the $300,000 giveaway

  • +1

not bad… how are hitachi TV's?
does this have an inbuilt TV Tuner as well?
might consider replacing my 32" soniq with this (and can give that to my brother)

  • Hitachi and pioneer used to make the best panels going back a few years when plasma was first released, I'm not so sure now though. I was under impression that they stopped making panels/tvs

  • I think this is the TV from the catalogue.

    Can anyone comment on quality?

I was just about to post this link:

      http://www.tempoaustralia.com.au/

The product is probably straight out of their office in Northern China.

Clearly a cheap badged product. So compare it with equally low end products such as Vivo and Soniq.

Before anyone negs me I'm not saying its a bad product, but needs to be put in perspective.

    • +1

I was slightly cynical if this was manufactured by Hitachi, so it's good to see that cynicism was warranted. Likewise, Sanyo TVs in Australia are just rebadged cheap Chinese TVs, with no relation to the Japanese Sanyo other than the name.

    • +1

Its a case of buyer beware then! Thanks for the link, I was really considering buying one!

    • excellent
guess i wont be getting this anymore!

    • Thanks for the link

"retailers like Harvey Norman rubbing their hands with glee at the margin potential"
At least now it looks like its price point is positioning it as a entry level product.

      Nice specs though.

    • Good article but it could reference a bit more. How do we know that these are actually re-badged cheap Chinese TVs? It is someone's word over any actual information.

Article is great, and more than likely correct but there are some annoying parts to it.

"A senior executive of a major consumer electronics Company who for many years was a senior executive at Panasonic said"

SO someone who works for a competing company who obviously has a reason not to like Tempo is bagging them out…

"Retailers love it because they can sell a product branded as Hitachi knowing that they have a lot of margin in the product. Consumers don't know the difference. They think they are getting a TV made by the Japanese Company Hitachi who has an excellent reputation in Australia. All they have to do is look at the TV manual and what they will discover is Chinese symbols and information that has been translated into English using something like Google Translate".

Manual Looks Ok to me? (PDF) http://www.tempoaustralia.com.au/hitachi/manuals/L42EC05AU%2…

      And;

"Links on the ACCC web site that reveal that Tempo, whose web site consists of a single page has in the past been forced to remove faulty products from sale in Australia."

Site looks pretty good to me, and there are plenty of companies who have had to recall faulty products.

      edit:formatting.

I'm voting negative purely so people scroll down to read that bit of info.
Buyer beware that you may not be getting what you think.

  • The Soniq for $399 had IPS panel. Does this?

    • Highly doubt it (but don't know for sure). I'd definitely take the Soniq over this, that was a very nice looking panel and at least they are a transparent brand about who they are. None of this dual-name-owner bs.

  • +2

think I would rather spend $640 and get that LG full HD LED SmartTV

or spend $399 and get the Soniq..

    • with you on the LG nubzy!! :-)

    • Where did you see it at 640? 699 was the cheapest I ever saw.

  • I think its probably better to check out the TV in person before buying it blindly

    • +3

If you're doing anything blindly, maybe stick with radio.

      • Hurrrrrr.

  • Do these have any warranty?

    • +1

Pretty sure hitachi has 1 yr on tvs.

Very good deal for 100hz and excellent energy of only 140w

My 32" Samsung uses 180w! (3yrs old though)

True ozbargainer always factors in power consumption of bargain! ;)

      • +1

+ve for the power consumption part :) some of the TVs are really cheap but they are damn expensive to run =="

  • To all the people posting links to negative articles on Smarthouse:
    1) Despite SH's claims stemming from "a spokesperson for Hitachi Australia" who knows nothing about these TVs, when you go to www.hitachi.com.au and click through to "Home Electronics" and then "LCD Televisions sold after 1st September 2011", you are redirected to the Tempo Australia website.
    2) It appears that Smarthouse has an existing reputation for poor journalism, to say the least (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_W._Richards).
