½ Price SunRice Jasmine Rice 5kg

    FINALLY

    • +3

Not sure on the stock level with the Restriction/Panic Buying.

      • Being in WA, it's something I don't have to worry about (LOL) jks

        • You sure? The Woolies I was in today only had a few packs of bog roll left (the 40-45c per 100S kind), no home brand tissues, the paper towel section was fairly bare and not many baby wipes to choose from… our borders are closed, pubs, clubs, casino, sporting venues are open, people are back at work etc etc.

Whoever is first to figure out wtf is wrong with people will make a lot of money.

    • On the same boat here =))
I am waiting for many weeks :D

      • Can you cook rice in seawater?

    • +2

I'm hanging out for the medium grain, it's my super favourite.

    • -1

Would not touch this again. Tastes awful. Pay a bit more for Uncle Ben's Thai Jasmine Rice: https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/60424/uncl… {currently out of stock)

      • It seems the Uncle Ben's Jasmine Rice 5kg are only in stock when it on special.

I purchased a pack the last time it was on special, and haven't seen it back on the shelf since.

      • out of stock items are great for your wallet and waistline.

        • How can one get fat by eating rice ?

          • +2

            @frewer: eat a lot

    • Went to buy a bag of Jasmine Rice and the largest they had was a 1kg bag.
Kinda glad now but hopefully they actually can have stock for the special.

No, I'm not in Victoria lol.

Can anybody see next week's online Coles catalogue?

  • +1

    wheres the brown rice at?

    • everyday price at woolies is $2.50/Kg for the 2Kg pack.

      • -3

to be honest, I'd rather the sunrice (aussie grown) over the woolworths (indian rice)..

          • -2

            @cheapbloke: yeah but it's $5 for 250grams ($20kg)?
            The $2.50 for 250grams ($10kg)?
I dunno.. Either way, don't they usually do the jasmine and brown rice at the same time?

            • +1

              @Da dpG:

It's only Monday and you already had friday drinks?

            • @Da dpG: The Sunrice branded brown rice 2Kg pack is $5. That's $2.50/Kg.

            • @Da dpG:

don't they usually do the jasmine and brown rice at the same time?

Yes, they usually do but the sale is only worth it if the 5Kg pack is on at least 30% off.

        • +3

I have always bought Sunrice Jasmine, but during the supermarket shortage , bought Thai Jasmine rice from an Asian supermarket. Wow…what a difference in taste!

          • +1

@TTH88: Yep. Thai jasmine rice tastes way better

  • +2

Just in time to panic buy!!

  • -2

    From Cambodia just anyone wonder.

    • +1

      Yep, in the description

      Product of Cambodia

      • Is that good or bad? Serious question

        • +2

it's not good or bad it's Cambodian.

        • +4

Technically the best tasting rice comes from Thailand and Cambodia

          • @tencents:

            Technically

            Do tell!

          • @tencents: So if they send the Colombian rice to Thailand and Cambodia before they send the rice to Australia it will come from Thailand and Cambodia so then be the best tasting?

          • @tencents: They have difference grade of rice from Thailand and Cambodia.

I reckon this one from Woolies is lower grade.

If you want good Jasmine Rice go to Chinese supermarket and looks for AAAAA grade.

BTW, where all the Jasmine Rice from Australia.

    • Pass exactly because of this

  • -3

i only eats rice from Australia.

    • +3

Rice takes a lot of water to grow.
We don't have a lot of water in Australia.

    • +1

      good luck then…

  • +3

Used to $8.50, now $10 because exchange rate or greedy wooly?

    • +3

Probably greedy wooly and greedy supplier

    • +1

Been $10 for a while now.

    • +1

Breaking news, costs go up. More at 6.

    • +2

Even cheaper 6 years ago, https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/131934

    • -1

I think global prices are up in general. Means more for the farmers at least.

      • +1

It doesn't mean that farmers are getting paid more.

        • -1

Maybe not if they locked in a price under a futures contract.

Most farmers very keenly watch the commodity prices in order to sell at an opportune time. Especially for non-perishables like rice and grains. That's why they build storage silos or bins on their farms. The storage will often pay for itself.

          https://youtu.be/ywBV6M7VOFU

    • $6.75 half price in 2018, but later…

    • This. Pretty sure last time I bought maybe a year ago was $9. We don't really eat rice but for some reason Jasmine just tastes better.

  • When will the next medium grain sale be?

My rice is running out 😣

    • Still getting through a 10kg medium grain that I managed to get for $16 at the start of the pandemic. $10 not too bad for Thai Jasmin,v used to be $8.50 I thought.

Still lasts ages and must cheaper, better than bread.. Taste wise the are both good staples. Not sure which brand people are recommending from the Asian supermarket but no doubt costs more.

Should probably be getting Brown rice this time, just takes ages to cook, not as nice (good for salad bowls), little bit healthier

  • +1

I just read Loacker Quadratini as Locked Quarantini thinking the marketing took a very wrong turn…

  • +4

Ok, random question. Should we (Australia) be growing rice ? Seeing that rice, like cotton, is a water-intensive crop and this country has been in a drought since…forever???

    • +2

Think of the beer produced and you’ll have your answer

    • 3.2 x5= $16

      $16 is 60% more than $10

      QUICK MATHS!!

      • +7

well, what i meant was $20 for 5kg is a misleading price and therefore the half price special isn't exactly half price

    • +2

Yes, the normal pricing of the sunrice jasmine does not make sense. Why would anyone buy in bulk (5kg) when you can buy 1kg cheaper?

    • And it’s product of Thailand from the look of it

    • +3

Does it make the poop fragrant?

With a name like that, you should know.

  • +1

Who pays $20/5kg sunrice when you can pay $12. 50/5kg for the woolworths brandn(everyday price). Woolworths brand is grown in Thailand, sunrice Cambodia.

    https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/601343/woo…

$10 is good, but it's only 20% less than the everyday woolworths price.

  • +1

Sunrice brown rice 5 kg is for $8.59 @ Costco.

    • Are you sure? I was at my local Costco the other day and I don't recall seeing sunrice brown rice. Of course maybe they were just out of stock..

      • +1

Yes. There was heaps at my local Costco

  • How does it compare to the Woolworths homebrand long grain rice that is made in Thailand?
