3D Printer - Whats The Best Low Cost Filament?

Hello
Just bought Ender 5 and now looking for the best low cost filament. Something with local AU stock. Found a few suppliers in Perth that sell for $40/kg for PLA/ABS, but wonder what is the go to product in AU?

  • Google - perth pla filament

Shipping from the Eastern States cld be ex…

  • I buy eSun stuff from cubitech.com.au, not sure how much shipping to WA is though.
I have heard good things about 3dfillies.com as well.

It does seem prices have gone up a few dollars from the last time I bought some.

    • esun all sold out on cubictech

  • Also the 3D solutech stuff from Amazon is good, but it only has a few colours.

  • Cubitech is good, Amazon (if you have Prime) is good too. I ordered two rolls from Cubitech in the middle of the 'Rona shutdown and it still only took two days to get from them (Vic) to me (NSW)

  • Oh get some glow in the dark filament too! I thought it was a waste of money but it's just funny to have things printed and glowing :)

    • what fillament did you get from Amazon?
I am very new to 3D printing. How much can you print with 1kg of 1.75mm?

how long is a piece of string/filament? But to answer your question 1kg of filament should be able to print up to 1kg of 'print/model'

I was like you when I started a few months ago, it's a steep/fun learning curve.

The creality software (and most others) will tell you how much filament is estimated to use for a print, for example something like an average phone stand can take 15 metres - it really takes less than you think.

I must admit I went a bit nuts on the filament. I pay on average about $30 for a 1kg roll, sometimes a few bucks less and sometimes a few bucks more. I have about 9 reels now - good range of colours, some metal looking ones, glow in the dark one and a pretty silver with glitter in the filament.

        • thank you =) Have no idea what I am going to print and my wife will ask "why?", but I always wanted one

@SAU: Learn a modelling package like TinkerCAD, OhShape or Fusion360.

Once you get a bit bored printing dragons off Thingiverse you'll find a 3D printer handy for making weird little bits to fix or improve things.

    • Totally agree on this point - Glow in the dark Baby Yoda, Elite Dangerous Wireframe Cobra III, Kids tags, etc. etc. etc…

Printing in Glow In The Dark filament was the first time my wife said 'That's cool' about anything I'd printed..

I know right? My wife even mentioned getting either a faster printer or a second printer now :)

Aurarum in Melbourne make their own filament and it's reasonably priced <$40/kg for PLA and ABS unless you're after some fancy colours or carbon fibre.

    • the ones mentioned above are under $30 for PLA+. Shipping is a bit of an issue to WA

      • PLA+ is $39.95 and they have a flat rate shipping of $10.95. You're paying extra for Aussie made vs China.

    • yep, and they are close to me too =)
