The part where it connects to WiFi to access the internet to fetch the required data. Where else would it be getting the min/max?

      • +1

Likely to be the measured min/max.
I think the wifi refers to the remote thermometer, though it is likely not actually wifi, usually 433MHz.

EDIT: the review below suggests it does connect to the Internet for weather data (in theory). So maybe it is displaying the forecast min/max.

    • +7

It probably gets the data from InAccuWeather.

There's a clock, alarm and radio on your phone as well. Doesnt mean there isnt a demand for them.

      soooo many haters……

  • i want to get one and replace my clock in the lounge. it says has AC adapter, but in description talks about having backlight for 8 seconds. Do you think that the backlight would constantly be on if plugged in to AC? hopefully

    • It needs to be plugged in. The battery will drain after a few minutes

  • what app does this use?

    • -1

      WiFi app :P

    I wasn't interested until I got to:
"Sound controlled function - active the backlight by sound or clap the hands"
Whoever wrote this did not proofread it at all.

Thanks. After reading the review it appears ive just let China into my house.

      • I for one welcome our new overlords. I however didn't buy one of these as a while ago - for about the same price, excluding my own time - I made something much better: https://www.instructables.com/id/LED-Marquee-Scroller-Wemos-…

Wifi conection enables your station to receive weather data provided by local weather stations

    LED display

    • -1

      ….what a terribly designed display

  • Just bought it now, was in stock. thanks Op

  • manage to grab one after OOS. lets see if they will cancel the order. pay via paypal anyway.

  • Can this be hacked by foreign cyber actors? I don't want my local weather stats exposed to the world.

    • It's not collecting weather stats, it's sourcing weather stats from online.

  • +3

I bought this one before. it could not connect to the WIFI. And the app is terrible, only 1-star rating I think?! I won't take it even the price dropped to 99c.

    • also….what a terribly designed display!

    • Perfectly ok as a clock and alarm, weather-app thrown in

    • I bought one a few weeks ago, and it won't connect to the WI-FI either, so useless.

  • +1

I have absolutely no idea why i purchased this, its literally going to collect dust. I really need to stop browsing Ozbargain while bored at work

    • -2

You bought it because it is a low value item and you think you can afford to spend it without much consequences. Perhaps just make a list of things you actually need and stick to it and put your hard earned money towards those goals instead.

      • +4

I prefer to live life dangerously.

And by dangerously i mean spending $9.95 on shit tech

      • +3

Ambiguous neg. Perhaps make a list of deals you really don't like and put your hard earned negs toward them.

      • -1

dunno why youre getting downvoted…very rational approach to buying crap in general & very specifically here because of the volume of crap available

  • +2

Thought this was a Weather station that has the outdoor unit to detect temperature
But its actually just getting weather information from the internet

I am after something like this:

This wood color one for $44.95 looks good. The black one is $50.72.

  • Just missed out.

  • Missed out as well. It appears to just do what the Weather App on the iPhone does, so I'll just keep using my iPhone :)

    I have this.

I got it for $5 in an Auspost shop

The app is crap. You cannot set the time without the app.

You need to enable all the options in the app to get it to work.

This includes tracking and access to your home internet so it can download weather updates in your suburb.

You should then disable all of the functions in the app. I found that it has a tracking function to see where you go. So if you’re going out who knows where all this tracking information is going to in China??

I would say delete the app but who knows if the app will not be available in future and then you can’t change the time or anything else??

You also need to have a plug to put into the wall as it only has a usb cable.

I rate it a 3 out of 10. Because I think that it is not flexible to operate without the app and it’s tracking where you go if you don’t turn off the app tracking feature.

  • As the description, there are,

Battery low indicator for outdoor transmitter
2 x AAA for outdoor sensor (Included)

So I assume the outdoor temperature is not from Internet or Mobile App.

But there is feature, "Temperature alert for both highest and lowest", and it should come from Internet.

    Confused.

God damn that is an ugly unit. Looks like it was designed in the early 80s, should be $2.

    • Yeah didn't Elliott have one of these on his desk in E.T.?

  • +1

Back in stock (I just bought one) then I click back and OOS :s

    • Yes I managed to order one too.

  • Is there any other decent simple clocks with weather displayed?

  • +2

After having experienced AusPost's returns policy first hand and the number of faulty low quality items they sell ….nah! I'll pass.

  • -1

    Not expired, still in stock

  • Haven't read the comments. I got one of these and returned it. It's actually not bad for the price if you have a 2.4ghz WIFI at home BUT I have serious doubts about the app and privacy and personally don't trust it sitting on my network.

Incidentally, I had picked it up from a store and returned it without any issues. Just told the lady the app is clunky (which it is) but nothing physically wrong with the clock.

    • and…not to mention a terribly designed display!

  • Kind of going back to Black & White TV. Should be coloured. Not very attractive at all.

  • Here is a cheapie alternative from Kogan…if you want to compare (as these sold out)
I have no idea how good these really are, but the price rang is similiar…
    https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/derwent-weather-station-sensor-…

  • Back in stock! They look good to me, got one.

    • Aaaand out of stock.

  • back in stock!

  • Yay got one!

    • looking at the comments above , not sure if i should be happy getting hold of one?

  • Can’t get the clock connect to my home wifi though I am on 2.4ghz. iOS user here. Give up. Going to return it.

    • Me too! So annoying

  • Once I turned off my 5Ghz WiFi, my iPhone joined the 2.4Ghz and then paired with it no problem. iOS app is not good but not bad.

    • which is the IOS app?

  • Can someone please explain what each one of the 3 temperatures are? Which is today, tomorrow and the inside sensor?

    • +1

Right side temp reading is for inside, left side temp reading is outdoor and temp reading below outdoor temp is today's forecast. Press the forecast button to view tomorrow's forecast.
