Melbourne COVID-19 Test Turnaround Time

Hi all,

Does anyone have any recent experience with the turnaround time for Covid tests in Melbourne this week?

Cheers

A friend of mine (legit, it wasn’t me) was tested yesterday morning at Chadstone and got a negative test text this morning - approx 24 hours later.

Note, only negative tests get texted. If you are positive they will call you so times may vary.

  • Close contact/symptoms you're next day or worst case the following day. Otherwise up to 4 days

  • my partner had was tested twice a month ago.

Once through a drive-through triage, and another at a hospital.

Hospital test got back to her in 3 days.

drive-through came back to her in 4 days.

    both via SMS.

    • Speaking of this…Can you work in the meantime? And if not do they give you a medical certificate?

      • no she couldn't work.

she's a healthcare professional, seeing clients everyday. she had to wait till she got her results.

      • You have to self isolate until you receive your results if you choose to get tested.

        • Please tell that to the 50% of people who were tested at Chadstone on Saturday and then went into the shops directly after.

      • Can you work in the meantime?

If you do work, you are breaking the law. You are required to self isolate at home immediately after taking a test, until you receive the results.

    • Medical cert?

      • i dont recall her getting a medical cert; she just told her employer she got tested and it was understood she had to self-isolate till she got her results.

  • I got tested at Melton Health on Monday and got the results today (Negative!)

      OP said Melbourne.

  • Not in Melbourne but I've had several tests. Non-urgent 24 hours. Urgent was about 16 hours.

  • My mum got tested yesterday morning about 10am and had results by 8am this morning via text confirming she's negative. This was Bayside council area in Melbourne.

  • Seems like a pretty quick turnaround in Melbourne. In Sydney (inner city area) it was about 1 day and 9 hours for myself (about 4 weeks back, test done at a drive through centre, but hospital phoned with the test result), and same for a family member (2 weeks back, test and results both from a hospital). 24 hours or less seems very good.

  • I'm in regional Victoria, and my wife and 2x Kids have all had head colds and were screened/tested on Sunday, we're still waiting on results (today is Wednesday), I understand with the recent spike in cases/testing and us being outside the "hot zone" we're probably not priority but it's currently past 80hrs waiting for results.

    • I'm from country Vic. Dtr got tested at a hospital. I gave them TWO phone numbers: landline and mobile. I explained the reason being mobile reception quite useless. Hospital or testing clinic lost both numbers. Unbelievable.

  • So how do these things work?
Im tempted to get on the bandwagon!

Go to your GP, get referral to do testing, visit testing centre, then they poke your brain through your nose…

      • then they poke your brain through your nose…

What if they can't find it?

        • Finding is not the purpose, poking is.

      • Too much work already

      • My understanding is that the GP can take the sample; no need to go to different locations.

  • Hubby got tested at Knifepoint on Tuesday morning and got results (negative) last night at 9pm.
Was a 3 hour wait to get tested and he said so many people went shopping afterwards.

    • That's not the only place that happens. I wouldn't be surprised if people getting tested then going shopping is what is causing the latest surge in numbers in Victoria.

      • That's what was reported earlier in the week, and was admonished by the Premier.

      • They should be more considerate. Go shopping first, then get your COVID test and go home.

  • 2 days for me
