Aussie Broadband Actual Speeds

I currently have FTTP, which according to my research (Other Ozbargainers) , is probably the best, followed by HFC.

I'd like to know what their actual download and upload speeds are.
Anybody who has 1000/50, like to enlighten me?
Especially during peak time.

Does it drop out often?
How's their customer service when dealing with issues?
Any common issues?

  • Well I only have 50/20, but have never seen it drop below 40, and never had an outage or any issues in a year since I signed up. Connection went without an issue

  • I'm on 100/20 HFC, it's been rock solid since day 1.

    Regularly get 12-13mb/s download and ~2.2mb/s upload, just ran a speed test and got 109 download and 19 upload.

  • I have FTTP 100/40 with Aussie Broadband.
    Below is my speedtest just now with my company VPN turned on and streaming radio at the same time.
    (normally ping is 1-3ms without VPN).
    Ping = 17ms
    Download = 94.35 Mbps
    Upload = 36.48 Mpbs

  • I have the 250/20 service with AussieBB and it's now 4:43pm and the download speed is 244.9 Mbps and upload is 18.4 Mbps. No drop outs and good service. Now complaints here.

    Used to be 4x as fast before NBN takeover, but more than enough

  • FTTP 100/40 with AB.
    speedtest just now (while streaming)
    Ping = 2ms
    Download = 94.77 Mbps
    Upload = 35.12 Mpbs

  • My area was, I think one of the first locations to get NBN when it first announced in 2009. Pretty damn lucky.

    Used to use Vodafone's Pocket WiFi to play games…

  • About 938/46 all day around. Peak speeds don't fluctuate below 900

  • FTTP hardly ever drops out and is the best you can get.

    With a decent router about 945/47 in peak periods and their customer service is one of the best going around.

    Common things you can run into.

    1) Do you have any file severs, use remote access, port forward, or play online games? If your answer is yeah ask them to be removed from carrier grade NAT. If you don't do any of that ignore this and you don't need to do anything.

    2) Not having a good enough router for high speed internet. Purchase a decent router that can set an upload limit to avoid hitting the NBN policer dropping packets.

  • 250/25 and routinely get speeds 245/20 at peak hour on HFC never seen it much lower then 240/20. Worth the money and the few minor issues i've had have always been super easy to get support.

    TL;DR always 90% or above but depends on your router / client (in my case that was on a Raspberry Pi 4).

    Steam sees 100MB/s+

  • FTTN 100/40

    Considering I have FTTN, I expected a lot worst.

    • that's pretty good for FTTN

  • Aussie Broadband FTTP. 7:30pm. 100/20 plan.

    Per speed test: 105.5Mbps download 18.7 Mbps upload. Ping 4 ms.

    Never had any issues with them.

    I would upgrade to a faster speed but have no need. This is more than enough for video streaming and working from home.

  • HFC connection here, 100/40
    Most recent results:

    Ping 15ms
    Down 82.66Mbps
    Up 33.33Mbps

    Customer service:
    I haven't had to call them, only used email or live chat. But they have been responsive and have been able to resolve my issues.
    I like the Aussie Broadband app - lets you run some service tests and kick the connection (useful if you change the device plugged into the NTD)

  • I'm on 1000/50 FTTP. Their customer support is the best I've had from any company, as their staff are technical, knowledgeable, and friendly. I get 800-900Mbps down, 30-40Mbps up, 2ms latency.

    Really for me it just means WiFi clients have download speeds faster than the WiFi and my PC can down games from Steam and Battle.net faster than if they were cached or backed up on my NAS.

    I am also in their IPv6 trial so I have full public IPv6 addressing for my devices.

  • I used to be with Aussie for like 5 years. It was overall well. I hated the constant network maintenance window they always had and the transition to the new cisco hardware was a real nightmare for them. Always got advertised speeds and international speeds and latency was really good.

    I think I called them a total of 3 tea during that period and the service was prompt and they're knowledgeble.

    I'm with Superloop now and am looking to switch to save some coin but what I have noticed is that the latency of pulling up a webpage is actually lower than Aussies.

  • I am living in a unit which has FTTB,i wonder any one has any comments regarding FTTB on 50|20 speed and what is peak speed you are getting and what type of modem you are using. Thanks
