Places to buy suit for a Groom and The Groomsman

Hey guys,

Looking for some guidance!

I was planning on getting married later this year (most likely delayed now due to COVID), but I have no idea where to buy suits!

Anyone have any suggestions from past experience on tailors make well made suits and relatively inexpensive? Looking to spend around $2-$3k on a suit for myself and 3 groomsman.

If it's a brick and mortar, would prefer it to be around the South East Victoria area.

Thanks in advance!

TM Lewin. Good quality and would suit your budget.

Although not an option now, I had a similar concern when I got married. In the end, I and other guys flew to Bangkok for a week, where we had suits tailored. With flights and accommodation, plus suits, we were still ahead than having tailored suit made locally (which would've gotten Bangkok or similar to make anyway).

Otherwise, search tailor shops and there's a few in Box Hill which were recommended to me by others at the time.

    • early bucks… suits made first of course.
doubt it will happen in thailand due to covid.

  • I think it's likely you'd struggle to get a bespoke or tailor made suit for that budget, but you never know - I've not looked at competition in a long time.

If it suits your taste (pun intended) I bought 3 suits from the Ted Baker/Hugo Boss outlet in Melbourne (Preston I think?) for what I thought was a reasonable price and had them adjusted for a small fee elsewhere to fit. It came out quite affordable at the time, but again, haven't been there in years so YMMV.

I remember when a friend was getting married, a few stores had a buy 3 suits and the 4th is free promo on. Could be worth looking at!

    • Bridgestone Suits?

    • Joe Black does a 20% off deal if buying three or more. If you go to the store in the city, you can even drink whisky while trying on suits.

    @Lorry: Try Institchu

    https://institchu.com/

For most of us who can't afford "Bespoke custom suits"… Made to measure is the next best thing I reckon for the price. You get what you pay for I guess, places like MJ Bale I found are nice fabrics but the fit off the rack was poor. Pricey for what you got as the fit is the most important: it was too long in the sleeves, chest and the shoulders fit well but the length of the jacket was too long for me.

Institchu have a showroom in Melbourne CBD along Lonsdale Street near Melbourne Central and Emporium or Little Collins Street. They do your measurements and then you can either order through them at the showroom or order online once you've setup an account, I usually go to the Lonsdale Street Showroom and Taylor or Paolo attend to me.

They cater for Wedding parties, they even do Ladies suits if that is your thing. I've ordered 2 suits from them, one for work and the other for my wedding and all of them turned out great, a few minor adjustments but they have a "100% Fit Guarantee". And yes while they are made overseas and shipped to you or the Showroom, the customisation you can do like the Fabric, you can inscribe your names in the inner lining as well, position of buttons, pocket position and style, cut of the lapel etc etc can all be done online and in the showroom. Plus grab a Whisky while you are there with your mates while getting measured up.

It took about 3 weeks from my first consultation at the showroom to it being sent and received by me. Prices at the end of the day are also reasonable for a fully fitted suit depending on the fabric. Great range of fabrics as well to match any wedding I reckon. If ya need any more info just message me! Good luck with finding something!

I had George & King by InStitchu for a friends wedding, about $1200 I believe. Expensive and still made in China and they still stuffed up the shirt in the wrong size.. I have another custom suite from London, that was made in the UK and was cheaper but the materials were excellent.

  • MJ Bale and if you have more to spend then Godwin Charli

  • At $500 - $750 per suit you're not going to get "tailor made". What you're looking at here is tailoring, rather than tailor made.

Institchu was mentioned above and would be worth examining. MJ Bale is another option at this price point.

Edit: Oh if $2k to $3k all up, then my suggestion is probably too exy. Institchu is probably more for you?

  • To be fair, even something as simple as Connor or Tarocash or Politix would probably do for the wedding? The suits do look good, they're just not super good quality so i doubt they'll last as long

I know a tailor that does effing great suits out of Sydney for $400 (through Groupon) but it took 2mo to get back to me

Not for groom or groomsman.. you can easily tell how cheap a suit looks.. those suits are fine for wedding guests but I would not suggest that for your wedding party..

Jellykingdom terrible idea, don't go cheap for your wedding

  • Another option what we did for our wedding was to buy some off the floor at Myers and then spent a little bit of money getting them tailored to fit. Worked out relatively cheaply and still looked good, also means you dont have to worry about suit being late/could buy closer to wedding date/wait for sales.

Assuming the suits will only be worn once, consider renting.

  • There is Moda suits on bridge Street Richmond.

You can buy off the shelf and get it Tailor fitted, will cost about $400

I was recommended on ozb and went there and would recommend it as well
