Recommend you put the price in title, OP

  • +4

A half person tent sounds awfully squeezy

    • I thought the same, then had a look and it's a choice between a 1 or 2 person tent.

      • Awww, now I have the sads….

(I figured that's what it was, but that the title was ambiguous enough to… well, you know what they say about disecting a joke)

The photo shows 2 sleeping bags in the half person tent, I wonder it is for two halves

      • +1

That would be a tent for 2 * 1/4 people. It just covers your heads, you need to have a waterproof sleeping bag.

Cloudup upgraded designs are my all time favorite tents - weight / features / price all rock. I have owned about 15 tents and still have about 7, so my experience is pretty good. Taga is awful design no inner - but good build quality for a bad design, you will wake up in a very moist tent though. I rave over the cloudup so much some people figured I must be connected to NH. Nope, they just make good stuff - except the taga. Taga is quality, just poor design - might work okay in a dry desert environment - have not tried it there.

    • "…weight / features / price…"
I'm guessing you are talking UL tents?

Have you tried the Lanshan/Lanshan 2?

      • I've been tossing up between one of these and a Lanshan 2 4-season, now the 20D version of this tent has increased in price I'm leaning a bit further towards the Lanshan 2, even though I'd need to buy a footprint and poles, and add that weight to it all… (there will be times when I want to do day walks away from the tent and I'll need my hiking poles while the tent is left set up)

      • I have 5 x 2 man tents 3 of which are UL and the other 2 are very close. I have looked at the Lanshan. When you add the weight of the walking poles which I don't normally use it will add 400 grams. Also if you break or lose a walking pole, you have no tent that night. Plus you have the cost of the walking poles if you dont have them. I reckon you are better off with cloudup. Cloudup includes all poles and the extra mat if you want double protection. It's ready to go if you walk with poles or not.

          So no.

Cloud up 3 is 2370grams? Lanshan 2 is 1155grams. You can get poles for the Lanshan that go in your kit so you're ready to rock. Add a couple hundred grams for the poles and you're still lighter than the cloud and if you are walking with trekking poles then you're laughing.

The Lanshan's simple design also allows you to use a stick, string it to a tree or use a walking pole if you do use them in the chance anything does happen to a pole which nulifies your walking pole breaking or disappearing point. The cloudup however has more poles and joints so in your scenario what would you do if you broke a pole? You are worse off trying to brace a curved tent.

The design of the Lanshan also allows you to adjust it's height which let's you raise it's deep tub floor in wet weather.

@Villainous: Hang about you are comparing a 3 man with a 2 man tent for a start. Also one with a foot print, one without. 1 with poles, one without. Lanshan 2 PLUS walking poles is 1155g plus say 400G for 2 x 200g poles thats 1555g. Cloudup 2 upgraded without the footprint and taking off any extra storm guy ropes will bring it down around the 1.5kg mark. Either way - pretty darn close I would say. In 30 years, never broken a tent pole. I don't use walking poles so the cloudup works for me. Grab a Lanshan if like, it does not bother me. But for bugger all difference to me I'm not going to buy an 8th tent that has no extra advantage for me. Don't get me wrong, if someone gave me a Lanshan, I would be very happy and would enjoy playing with it's features too. But in truth, if I bought another tent, that's where my wife would make me sleep every night.

            • @ShipShapeRC: Not saying the Cloud up is a bad tent just that the hits you gave against the lanshan "needing" trekking poles isn't true and if you break a pole you are better off with the Lanshan's vertical style pole design. If weight is a main concern then you would use 2 x carbon poles @ around 150grams total then still lighter than cloud 2.

    • How tall are you? My main concern with these tents is length of the sleeping area.

      • 6ft 3. I love it. I do share it with an 8 or an 11 year old though. If I've got the wife, it's a glamping tent.

  • When will the white colour stock come back? :(
