Porting My Number Back from Belong to Telstra Plan

Hey everyone,

Picked up Oppo Find X2 Pro recently from this deal and only made up my mind 2 hours before deal was going to end.

It specifically mentions that deal is not valid for "Belong" port in users so I ended up getting a new number, at that time it sounded like a great idea but I've been using my current number for 10 years or so and would be so much pain to give everyone my new number.

My question is is there any way I can get my old number which is still active with belong ported to my telstra plan ? Has anyone done anything similar ?

I can switch my belong number to Optus or any other carrier if I need to for a while before switching.

    You need to tell them to get your number out of quarantine. I’m not sure if a normal agent had access to do this, but it can be done

    • My old number is still with belong, I just don't know if it will be a issue since it was an special deal for port in customers ?

  • They will remove any port in offers you currently have
    and may also require you to pay the balance of the device which was subsidised through JB Hifi as you ported in.

    Have literally seen it happen a few weeks ago
    mate ported a number from belong to Telstra after the fact as he had used a random prepaid number to take advantage of the "port in offer"
    after he ported his number (which Telstra happily helped him do) his next bill had all these random charges in the hundreds of dollars, when he called them they explained it was port in credits and phone discounts he had taken advantage of as a port in offer and as his number was now ported from Belong (which the deal stated was ineligible) he now had to pay those discounts back

    He took them to the TIO and they TIO found in Telstra's favour

    • I just spend 2 DAMN HOURS with Telstra chat, he didn't really made much sense but he was saying he has to sign me up with another plan(temporarily) in order to port in my number from belong, He re-did my credit check and was super slow to respond, at the point it was really pissing me off.

      He's signed me up with another random $50 plan for now and says once port in is done I have to contact them again to fix the charges and port in my FNN.

      All of that really made no sense to me at all and if that I will happily revert back to another number but not paying any extra charges, unless if they told me beforehand they will be charging that.

      PS: Telstra chat was really useless, not that I like Mondays but going to that chat made it even worse.

    Just a bit of update on that, I don't think I've ever in my entire life have seen customer service as bad as Telstra, My Republic was on bottom of my list but they are passed way beyond it.

    I have been trying to get in touch with someone for 4 days now.

    Every time I get a person online they take hours to reply back, I probably spoke to 5 people online who ask for all my details and then disappear. 1 person on online chat asked for every detail they need for credit check again apparently because it was required for my port in request. told me everything is done and then disappeared, It took total of 6 hours of conversation with him. I message someone else the next day and they advise nothing has been done.

    It's impossible to call them right now, no matter what option you choose, you get "Due to Covid19 we can't help you right now".

    I even went to there store which was equal to talking to a wall. took me half n hour to explain to him what I was after and even after that he was trying to sell me a new plan saying he can't do that I have to go to online chat for what I was after.

    In Conclusion: It's impossible to get any customer service from Telstra. I have given up, I'll just suck it up and keep using the new number and going to disable my old number.

    • Your pretty late to the game but not too bad. Telstra is good with their network coverage and quality but they're also excellent in stuffing up things like this so before asking them to do something complicated better have some back up plan or be prepared to go to the TIO
