  • thats very tempting

  • -1

Does that mean it is on sale - $400 gift card = $799?

    • Seems to be a special 4 days only deal. After that reverts to the usual $400 gift card deal.

  • Can you pay the $799 with JB gift card?

    • Yes, if you have any GC or vouchers, you can use.

      • +1

Wow nice… will go have a look NOW

      • He means can they issue you the $400 card and use it instantly to offset the upfront cost.

  • I already have a few plans, any idea on the potential outright cost?

  • +2

Played with this phone in the store the other day, very nice.

  • +1

Looks like the X2 series are getting the Android 11 beta too:

    https://www.xda-developers.com/oppo-find-x2-find-x2-pro-andr…

  • Are you on the actual 5G network at this price or do you have extra fees for 5G?

    • Until 30th June 5G is free on Telstra (its called free trial) after that you have to pay $15 on top of your plan fee to subscribe for 5G service.

      • +1

Yes but this is a JB hi fi mobile plan and doesn’t mention 5G

        • I am sure you can add it as an 'Add on" to the plan. Though haven't confirmed it.

          • @OZBsince2018: I just called a JB HiFi near by and they said the plan doesn't have 5G, and as far as they could tell me the only way you could get 5G would be to take out a seperate second service on one of the normal Telstra plans.

            • +1

              @sirix: Update: you can add the 5G definitely. It's $15/month add-on after 30th June.

        • I've got the plan and it comes with 5G, but that is only til 30th of June as suggested below.

Funny thing is that this phone get as good reviews for the hardware (including camera) as the Huawei P40 Pro but obviously isn't hobbled with terrible software. Yet it won't get as much heat on this forum as a Huawei. Go figure!

    • +6

Oppo software is much much better than Samsung. Very fast, less burden on RAM and battery.

      • Lol when I try to enable developer mode on an Oppo it just nags about it, that's a deal-breaker as I can't set animation scale to 0.5x.

    • Do you mean heat as a positive or negative here?

      • What heat?

      • Negative, as Huawei cops it because of the supposed China spying risk, and that the phone doesn't have Google services on it.

        • -1

Any potential spying risk from Huawei would be equally true of Oppo, Xiaomi, OnePlus. Since Huawei doesn't spy right now and it is about potential future spying — that would include all Chinese companies.

  • Do you still get the $400 Giftcard and can use for signing up for 12 months, making the phone purchasable at $399?

    • If it doesn’t …

      12x55 + 799 = 1459… which is hard to justify

      • +4

Much better phone than Samsung S20+ and Ultra, and you are getting phine+12 month plan in the price of S20+ and even less than Ultra outright price. What other justification does one need…!

      • Pretty easy to justify when you realise the value you're getting in this deal for this high end phone lol.

    • +2

      No

    • I doubt it other wise it should be mentioned?

      • +4

No. You don't get $400 gift card. Actually you get $800 gift card, which you redeem to reduce the phone price from $1,599 to $799.
In other words, under this deal, you get $800 gift card which has to be used to purchase this phone.

  • +4

I actually stopped everything I was doing soon as I saw this deal and went and bought one. Thanks OP!

No you don't get the $400 gift card, you only get one deal so you swap the $400 gift card deal for an $800 discount off the phone itself which is a MUCH better deal.

    • +2

      Correct.

    • +3

The lady at JB said she didn't know what this deal was so I showed her the photo in this deal, she took a photo of it and went off for 5-10 min (I presume to talk to her manager) and came back and agreed to do the 'special' deal. The port from Optus to Telstra took about 10-15 min so the transaction all up took about 45 min but I'm staring at this beautiful new top of the line phone for half the retail price so I'm very happy!

  • -8

Might consider one when they decide to use stock Android instead of ColorOS.

    • +6

Color OS 7 is very much stock Android, with some useful and improved overlay.

  • I would jump on this if I wasn't already a Telstra customer. Doubt I can port in and out within this time frame.

    • Can't you get a $2 sim and port that number over to get the deal?

      • +1

Yes, but it will be a new number. What @wayfastwhitie is saying is to port out his existing number from Telstra to some other Network and then port it back to Telstra. For this, you have to wait 30 days.

    • No, you have to wait 30 days before porting back. It used to work previously, but with their system upgrades, your number will keep appearing in Telstra system till 30 days from port out date. Guy at JB Hifi showed me that in their system when I tried to port in my wife's number as well, which was ported from Telstra to Amaysim two weeks back. It was still showing in Telstra system.

      • Must have got lucky. Did that 2 days after port 1 week ago. Sad that I miss this out but card was used for a good purpose

        • Were you on a month to month plan? In that case, it might have worked because you were not on a discounted plan.

  • +4

I got mine from Optus with $300 gift card

Total spent 1298 for this phone and 1year 5G 200G plan for $59

While Telstra only offer 5G trail to the end of June.

This phone is the best android phone at the moment, I can assure you will not regret if you are going to grab one

    • how did you get this deal?

      • Since it was released on the internet, and i found optus is selling it.

  • Can you port from Aldimobile and get this offer?

    • Why not.

      • They use the Telstra network so i wasn't sure.

        • doesn't matter as still it will be considered as a port-in, because last year I ported in from Bellong, which is Telstra MVNO. Its just that it takes more time to port in if your are porting in on same network, as it is done manually. Whereas if you are porting in from Optus or any Optus Network MVNO, then its quick and takes few minutes only.

          • @OZBsince2018: interestingly belong is specifically mentioned as not being allowed for this deal. belong, boost and telstra

  • I've never used Oppo before. What are they like what software updates? Do they get monthly security updates and new android versions as soon as they are available? How long are they generally supported for updates?

    • android 10 came last month for 10x zoom. security updates come sooner.

    • I had the original Oppo Find 7 and software updates ceased after about 18 months or perhaps a bit longer. I hope they've improved.

  • +3

    $500 in less than a year 😥

    • -4

Happens to almost all androids lol.

      • A bit exaggerated but mostly true.

      • Oppo Reno 10x Zoom is on the level of P30 Pro, S10 Plus, OnePlus 7 Pro etc. those didn't drop anywhere near as hard.

    • LG noises

  • Is it dual sim?

    • No. Single SIM.

      • -1

        deal breakerrr

  • In store only sucks when your 500km from the nearest

  • +1

I would be all over this if I wasn't already on Telstra…

  • Could someone kindly suggest this one or oneplus 8 pro. seems they both from oppo group and have similary specs. But oneplus 8 pro never get published in AU with Kogan selling some as gray import

    • Oneplus 8 pro is a better option with Wireless Charging and Dual SIM, BUT it isn't available in Australia. So doesn't make sense to spend $1,500 on a grey import phone, with no warranty.

    • +1

I chose the Oppo over the OnePlus 8 Pro because I didn't want a gray import.

      • I'd take the OP8P any day over Oppo. Last experience with their software was 2017 so might be outdated but Color OS was god awful.

        • +4

Yeah the reviews say the newest ColorOS is meant to be heaps better. I'll know soon, just setting the phone up now.

          • +1

@cosmokram3r: Cool, lmk how it is!

            • +1

@Void: OS isn't very good coming from Samsung, just little things that were handy and basic on my old Samsung not being there was weird. I'm gonna install a new launcher, that's the only main issue. I'll get used to it.

Amazing phone. I can deal with an OS that isn't perfect because the phone is just stunning.

              • +1

@cosmokram3r: Well I mean Samsung is 2nd best to Stock (imo) so that's pretty good. I'd buy any phone as long as it can be easily fixed like removing bloat with adb or being able to flash a different ROM onto it. I'd be coming from LG so Oppo is probably ∞x better than that without even modifying it. I'd probably get a Xiaomi Mi A* because I don't like to spend more than $400 on a phone as I rarely use it.

        • +1

No VoLTE support for Oneplus on Telstra otherwise I would order one. So that pretty much leaves just the Oppo if you want a decent snapdragon CPU Android phone.

          • @fraid knot: Will be a while before everyone has VoLTE. Seems like you need both users to have VoLTE capable phones which may be some time away depending on when your friends and family upgrade.

            • @cosmokram3r: Not correct. If you have VoLTE, your call will go through Data from your network, and if recepient doesn't have VolTE it will be a normal voice call on his network.

            • +1

              @cosmokram3r: https://exchange.telstra.com.au/next-generation-voice-callin…

VoLTE was rolled out 5 years ago and is supported by handsets as old as Samsung S6 so most people would actually have it now and not even realise. It's just because Oneplus isn't in Australia officially that Telstra won't enable it. I believe there are hacks to get it working on Optus and Vodafone but my phone is an essential work tool and I need the best coverage so I don't want to switch from Telstra.

  • I wonder when the bamboo green will be available in Australia -_-

  • looks like a great phone https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9arevpoH-4g, will go to JB tomorrow to check it out

  • Just ordered mine from Optus. $0 up front. $95 per month. 24 months. 10gb data. And $200 gift card.

    • +2

Jesus that's a lot of money.

My $150 per year plan gives 7GB of data per month that rolls over. There's real value if you don't use mass amounts of data and/or have access to wifi often.

I bought my samsung s7 on a plan and will never touch plans again. Outright phone deals seem to suit me much better.

      • Plans can be excellent value. This deal means you essentially get your plan for free, with shitloads of data. A 12 month deal like this is good, because you can jump on whatever cheap plan you want after that.

        • I agree that the deal in the OP is pretty great if you need lots of data. Still wouldn't be worth it to me. The deal I was replying to was different.

    • +2

No spyware or bloatware on Oppo. Just almost plane vanilla Android experience, with some additional customisation features, which I kind of like. Very smooth and buttery phones, and loving it so far.

  • +1

still cheap if you sign up for the plan, and pay off the early termination fee

    799 + 390 = 1189

    • do you end up paying the $55 first month also?

      • Yes, 1st month cost will be charged even if you cancel it on the same day.

  • which is better vegan leather or ceramic?

    • Vegan leather lighter (200 grams) but I personally think it will wear out and discolour over time.

I ended up purchasing the ceramic (217 grams)

  • Just got this plan.

    Switched from aldi mobile.

    Whole process took 30 minutes.

A reminder that the phone has 2 years manufacture warranty.

  • BUMMER!!!!!
I just called the JB store in Marsden Park to check if I can add an international calling pack for an extra $10 on top of the plan value. The rep said NO. This is special JB HI FI + Telstra plans. And there is no international call pack that can be added to this. Does anyone know anything about it?

    • It was advised the same thing when I purchased the plan.

The alternative for me is to use whatsapp/Skype/viber for international calls

    • Yes, you can't ad that to JB Hifi plans. A strange decision by Telstra, and lost opportunity for dditional revenue.

      • I wonder if Telstra chat support can add it after the fact?

        • No, I have been using JB Hifi plans for long, and tried to add that but no success. Also Telstra chat is a disaster these days.

          • +1

@OZBsince2018: This one thing ruined it for me. I need international calling. The whatsapp calls dont always cut it for me :-(
I guess I might still get the phone and cancel the contract.

  • Genuie question, why would someone get this deal rather than the s20+, and save $200 as well? Is this phone better than the s20+?
