I'll wait for x570 back in stock

    • Which x570 you going for?

      • +1

I'm waiting for asrock x570 taichi.

        • same

        • +1

I have the x570 taichi, it's a decent board and I haven't had any issues with it in the past 7 months.

        • +1

You should have bought the ASRock X570 Phantom Gaming X from the deal I posted 4 months ago ($449) https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/516782

  • +7

Not a bargain $309 at PLE and PCCG.

    • Edit: I can't read.

    • +1

      How much is s&h?

  • +6

    Price Jacked to the max.

  • +7

wasn't b550 meant to be the budget chipset?

    • +20

      Budget and Australia, pick one

    • +4

I'm glad I picked up a B450 Tomahawk recently and didn't wait for these as almost $100 extra for benefits I don't care about (PCIe 4, extra M.2, better onboard Audio)

      • +2

Yup stick with b450 or upgrade to x570, not the b550. They can all support ryzen 3 series anyway .

        • Funny how lot of YouTube review praise this board as the best middle ground.

I do think I don't need everything from x570 (hate the chipset fan) but the Aussie tax on this is too much

      • +1

It has 2.5G lan which is a pretty good feature.

        • +2

how so? do you have other 2.5gb devices and a 2.5g switch?

        • +3

Have you used internet in Australia?

      • that exactly what i did. i m gonna wait until year end

    • Just goes to show, in my opinion, we won't see any significant price drops in the Zen 2 CPU's (at least the low priced like the 3600) like most people are thinking when Zen 3 is launched.

  • +4

Agreed B550 is overpriced for this generation. Numerous you tubers have already stated buying the x570 is a better value proposition.

  • B450 version is available for 208 shipped

    • +4

      paid $169 5 months ago

    • Where from to get it at 208?

  • This is price is pretty much for an entry level X570.

    • +3

It has better featurs than most x570 so I guess it's fair. Prices will drop over the coming months as this is basically day 1 price.

      • Which is why x570 is a better buy now. You tubers tested both and found that x570 performed better in speed tests.

      • in what way is b550 better than x570 of equivalent series?

        • +3

If comparing the same series, X570 will be obviously better, but also cost ~$100 more (X570 Tomahawk ~$400). B550 doesn't have the chipset fan so to me that's a huge plus.

With that said, a 20% sales on this board will be very good value. $310 is pretty much MSRP.

          • @Kingduytan: Also have to consider the features. Many mid end x570 boards have wifi 6 built in which is important for some. This b550 doesn’t have it.

          • @Kingduytan: I agree the chipset fan omission is a plus for the B550.

      • Other than better VRM I can't see how it has better features or future proof than x570.

The 2.5G Lan may sound great but unless you are transferring huge files all the time, it is not a big deal for most PC users I would say.

    • It also have better VRMs than many entry X570 (or put it the other way, many entry level X570 sucks). Gotta choose wisely if pair with 3900X/3950X.

  • Could someone share some light on the new 550 boards compared to the 570? What I've looked up is there isn't too much difference and the consensus is the 570 is better.

    • +1

basically look at the breakdown of the product stack from manufacturers to see how it is positioned. for MSI as an example, only X570 has GodLike and ACE boards on the high end, while B550 is limited to Tomahawk and Mortar (mid end).

    • You would hope that the top of the line beats the middle of the line. But not all x570 are good and not all are competitively priced. These will come down in future.

      • Correct. some X570s are shit too, like the Gaming Edge WIFI. Myself, i had to go for at least mid end X570 as i needed the features (Wifi 6, separate DAC etc). Still, its better than the Z490 boards, Intel doesn't even support PCIE 4.0 natively.

    • Apparently B550 is better than X570 due to the improvements manufacturers have made to their VRM solutions. I could be wrong though. I wouldn't recommend either, as AMD are going to change sockets for Ryzen 5000 and PCIe 4.0 is useless (unless you need bandwidth) as it stands. B550 is really expensive too.

    • This video was pretty good imo. Worth a watch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8d4C80Ub_o&t=857s. Personally I'm hanging onto my CPU and MOBO until DDR5 is out.

      • Yeah, I had the same opinion too. Better wait for DDR5 to come out.

  • Normal price is $309

  • +2

    That's expensive as (profanity).

  • How did this post get 9 upvotes? How is this even a deal?

  • +1

Whats this insanity that a midrange boards cost 300$ + ???

    • +1

Same reason the MSI B450 Tomahawk Max was selling for about $175 before the C-19 sh!te hit th fan, and is now well over $200.

I'm sure when these are in full swing production, you'll pick them up for less.

      • The question is when?

        • I think if you hunt around you can find for sub $180, maybe not delivered.

  • Not worth over B450 boards

  • I'll wait for the B650

    • +1

Better off waiting for the B750 as that will have a new socket.

  • Got a MSI b450 gaming plus matx board, should I upgrade to this?

    • Does the new board have any features you want/need?

      • rgb lol

        • are you running a 3900x or above with a 2080Ti? If so you should consider this or an X570. If not, what you have will probably be just fine.

          • @Budju: Running 3700x with 2070S.

            • @mordinhoz: Nice rig, similar to mine. I wouldn't bother upgrading until 2022.

  • +1

    Price dropped, now $303.20

    • I notice the B550 mortar also $287.20 now. I wonder if it holds up as well as the B450 mortar did.
