That looks really good thanks. I’m looking for something similar I can abuse with the washing machine, throw in a draw and sharpen with a metal sharpener rather than having to buy a stone… any other suggestions?

Great guide for chef's knives, definitely wouldn't put the tojiro in the dishwasher. But then again I wouldn't put any knife in the dishwasher.
If you want something that is easy to maintain I would go with the Victorinox fibrox chef's knife.
Is this one worth getting?
I have this knife it is excellent, but I have to say the MAC MTH-80 is better. But it is also more expensive. But I just posted a deal where the MAC is $146.25. they are usually around $230-250.
ugh, OzB is a love hate relationship. Hate how it sucks me to buy shit, love it that I just bought a knew chef's knife. :D
Thanks for the reocmmendation.
What knife did you end up buying the MAC or the tojiro
shun

When it comes to fast, precise chopping and slicing, this is the ultimate all-purpose knife for cooks who favor the lightness and super-sharpness of Eastern cutlery. The slightly oversize, deep-bellied blade features a core of SG2 Japanese steel that holds an exquisitely fine edge with unparalleled durability. Inspired by the high-performance knives used by Japanese chefs, our exclusive Shun Fuji collection represents the very best in cutlery craftsmanship and technology.
Developed for the experienced cook who prefers the lightness and razor sharpness of Eastern-style blades.
The blade’s core of SG2 steel is clad on each side with Damascus steel composed of 80 alternating layers of nickel and stainless steel.
Resulting 161-layer blade is thin and light yet strong and hard, with a supersharp cutting edge.
Handle is dark tagayasan wood, or “iron sword wood,” an extremely dense wood traditionally used in Japan to make samurai sword handles.
The Double Chestnut handle shape has finger ridges on both sides for a comfortable, ambidextrous grip.
End cap made of polished Damascus steel.
Shun Fuji collection won the “Kitchen Knife of the Year Award” at the U.S. 2011 Blade Show for the best in new product quality and design.
Handcrafted in Japan.
A Williams Sonoma exclusive.
Kitchen knives are the new eneloops

5pc Block Set was better IMO.
Excellent knives Shuns'. Not the easiest to sharpen for a novice, but excellent when sharpened properly.
Pro tip: Get the more 'narrow' ones if you can. The thicker ones are good, but more sharpening time required.
Other: they can and do develop 'pitted' edges, much like many/most Globals do.
I fail to see that these prices won't come back? Might as well wait for the 5 piece set..
Why not just buy the knives you actually will use individually. Knife sets are really just a gimmick to get people to buy knives that you don't really need.
If they're $150-200 individually it's worth it even if you only need two knives.
I definitely don't think any of these knives are worth even close to that. Expensive paper weights.
The design of the handle is not ergonomic. I have the scalloped chef and the utility knife
Missed the 3, 5 and 7 knife sets.
/me waits patiently for the 1,397 knife set
Just need a good chefs knife that I can buy online for a reasonable price - don’t need a whole set. Any recommendations? Thanks
