A new Falcon replacement

Hi all, I have always had a Ford falcon, last being an XR6. I am now considering an upgrade.

I stayed with Ford as:

  1. power. Bang for buck if you got in a spot of bother she could sought you out.
  2. no matter where you were in the country, if something went wrong they had spare parts on hand.
  3. cheap to maintain - I found anyway
  4. great highway driving - they are a pleasure to cruise in
  5. that engine and technology spec wA spot on

Now with no Ford , and Holden gone, I’m at a loss.

I had been considering a second hand Kia stinger, being a relatively full sized sedan, I’m a little worried about longevity.

I don’t want some 2L toy box before anyone recommends one. I had considered a raptor, they aren’t really the size / style of car I’m after.

Any recommendations here would be amazing! I nornally buy second hand.

    Fgx falcon?

    new(ish) v6 camry/aurion?

ticks the power, cheap to maintain and availability of parts like a falcon does…it is front wheel drive though and they aren't really the best looking cars that's for sure.

It’s the new replacement for the XR8 fans. V8, rear wheel drive. Only 2 doors though…

      • Pfft who needs rear doors ;)
The Oil Cooler issues are a genuine concern though

        • Not heard of the oil cooler issues… I have heard of the air conditioner evaporator issues though.

@Jimbobaus,just get a bypass done.I did when I had my XR6 Ecolpi Ute.Serviced the ZF trans as well. All up around $1200.

  • VW Passat / Skoda Superb?
Both have pretty decent performance, tech and comfort levels.

    Mazda 6?

Mazda 6 got the 2.5l turbo

he wants performance, do you really think mazda 6 is what he is after?

          • @hmac: My response is in relation to your comment about mazda 6 having a 2l. That's it. Chill

I’m a little worried about longevity.

The KIA Stinger, like all KIA's, comes with a 7 year transferable warranty (10 years in America) so I wouldn't worry too much about longevity until at least that time is up.

My cousin was in the same boat as you and went for a new Stinger. Great warranty and great quality/luxury (much nicer than any Toyota). Fast too.

wait for a low km Falcon since you like them

  • My sister was in the same boat,
    BMW M140
    Ford Mustang v8
    Kia Stinger
Went the stang due to 10 speed auto, all the driver tech ect but be warned, they like to drink the fuel

    • You do not buy them for fuel consumption.Mine is around the 10.5-11.5.Which is fine. But @ the end of the day,the Stinger would not be a bad choice.Would love one as partner to my GT.

  • Mustang V8

xr6?! How very unaustralian, at the minimum xr8 or a holden commodore ss or one of the fpv/hsv series cars. I take it that fpv competes with hsv…..I wonder who won in the end…..Ford or Holden….?

    • -1

      Toyota…

    • Xr6 outsold the Xr8 7 to 1 in its last years of production. Before they decided to stop making the falcon and close the factories there were plans to phase the xr8 out altogether.

    • Got Barra?

      • +2

Barra plus blower better than having two extra cylinders.

        • Why not both?

  • I heard xr6s were pretty reliable. Nice looking cars too and I was a Holden kid.

    • The Barra is the southern hemispheres 2JZ/RB26DETT.

  • Toyota Camry SL V6?

  • You have answered your own question. There are no alternatives for the commodore or falcon now apart from the Kia Stinger V6. Everything else will be too expensive or not powerful enough for you.

  • What XR6 do you have? You could just mod it to be better than all other options. E.g.Boost/brakes/lightweight wheels/tires, Infotainment upgrade, New front seats (Sparco/recaro etc).

    • There's this one guy who showcased a friend's xr6 who modded it to be a turbo variant, on youtube. Everything looked in pristine condition. Dunno how much he paid to get it all done up to spec though.

Thanks for all this guys - where we have landed is a KIA stinger , we just scoping out some second hand options (try and avoid brand new).

We have a 09 XR6. Only has 112,000km on it too, I’m just thinking to add all the tech and the dramas with getting new head units, this it probably the best way to go!

We gave a lot of thought to all the options here so thank you kindly :)

    • @Beps13.Njoy! I would love one of these next to my GT!🐎🐎🐎
