Seems like the prices have been coming down on the Coleman Instant up tents in recent weeks (possible new range being launched or just out of season?)

Anyway, I nearly bit from Snowys/Tentworld when I saw this had come down to $260, but Amazon currently have it at $220 delivered.

    Honestly hard to remember how crappy old tents were after having one of these. My brain has very quickly suppressed the frustrating memories of fibreglass poles and running through loops.

    They do take up more space when collapsed but soo worth it if you're driving to your location.

      Coming from the UK, we don't have this style of tent commonly available. Borrowed a friend's one for a camping trip and was blown away by how easy set up / pack up was, how spacious and comfortable it was and how robust it felt.

          Like any tent you'll need to tide down properly but this tent is sure easier to set up and it does have enough loops to help you tide down. I have the Gold series and it just brilliant.

      Waterproof rated 1500mm. In practical terms and from reviews, I understand this should be fine for most scenarios except for very heavy rain and winds > 80kph

      For inclement weather, the Coleman Instant Up Gold (seems to be around $350 on Snowys/Tentworld) is 3000mm waterproofing and some other weather improvements.

        The gold versions have numerous other improvements. The floor is made from a more flexible and stronger material, so it's more waterproof and doesn't make crunchy sounds when you walk on it - big plus when you camp with kids. I've got the Coleman gold darkroom version, which is amazing if you prefer an extra hour of sleep after sunrise.

          Edit* - At $299 or only $80 more and watching the video, I'm gonna say yes. The gold series is well worth it considering the better materials used.

    I had 4 person tent bought in Aldi last year, and it was really crappy and after sleeping two nights I threw it away and never looked back - the tent was so weak and when it was windy the whole tent was shaky.

    Is this tent robust and would last long?

      I also have the same Aldi 4-person instant-up tent, bought it in 2018. Only used it 3 times but it stood up well. Mind you the weather wasn't very windy during those time.

      I have the 4p Gold version of this - very robust and very happy with it. Only downside is how large and heavy it is when packed, but the benefits greatly outweigh that.

      That said, my friend has the Aldi version and although I've never personally slept in it, I've heard no complaints either. How windy was it when you were camping? I'd expect most tents to shake and flex in the wind, especially if the walls are almost upright.

      The Amazon page seems to have incorrect pricing. Have a look at the Snowys Link (and check Tentworld). This is normally retailed $3-400 with a quoted RRP of $500

    I have this tent! Got it many moons ago down at Anaconda at some random sale (can't remember how much for, probably about the 260-280 mark as its currently 259 club price)

    Easy enough to setup and pack up. The tent fly requires some origami skills to fold it so it fits in the bag but YMMV.

    With a queen size air mattress and 3 people (2adults, one kid) it gets a bit squishy.

    Can't say about its waterproof attributes, I haven't used it during a heavy storm.

      Squishy is relative, the way I see it is you sleep in the tent, everything else you do outside

      As people have said (and the video review at Snowys), 6p isn't realistic. More like comfortable 2-3, wouldn't want to exceed 4.

      Tents are usually made of nylon or canvas, cabins mostly wood.

    I have the 4p version of this and it's a ripper. I suppose if you are really well practiced, under 2mins might be possible, but 5mins is certainly doable. Packing it up took about twice as long.

    Don't forget to get a good groundsheet as, whilst it is ripstop, the bottom can be damage by rocks etc.

    Bought this tent on a previous deal for $197 - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/324585

    Have used it 20-25 times in the last three years for beach and bush camping with no issues. I prefer it over my dodgy Kings swag, setup time is similar but the tent is roomier and takes up less room in the ute. As mentioned above, chuck a floor underneath it to protect the tent floor, also a great insulator and makes clean up easier if you are using a mesh floor.

    Got this one, had it a few years from Snowy's, who price match, have great customer service, and I'd try to support them first in buying this. Not affiliated but had an issue with an item I bought from them which they resolved and as such would support their business practice with future purchases when this finally gives up the ghost!

    I've got the 8p version of this one, it's at least 6yrs old now and still works fine :) note to self though it does take some patients when it comes to setting up and folding down and don't pressure it otherwise you'll snap the bars

      So you would always need to camp near a hospital in that case? Or maybe just swing past the hospital on the way out to the campsite?

          Haha, just in case you got too angry and frustrated when trying to put up a tent, you might suffer a heart attack, so a hospital nearby is not a bad idea.

          Another tip: When pulling the fly sheet over the tent, it helps if you are very tall or have another person on the other side of the tent to grab hold of the fly sheet. If you are alone and not very tall, stand on a step ladder to throw the fly sheet over the tent.

            @edfoo: Even easier: leave the poles at half-height, put the fly over the inner, secure the fly with the upper velcros, raise the poles to full height then complete the fixing of the fly. This way the tent can be pitched by one person in a controlled way.

      I have a similar pop tent and there is nothing easier in terms of setup than one of these tents. Cant go wrong for amateur tenting!

      I was a newbie and this is my first tent that I bought and still using it. Though I now tend to bring a Kings single swag when I am out by myself.

    Ok, this advice probably belongs in the bleeding obvious category, but measure up your car before you buy it. It's pretty big.

      Good reminder. For reference it's 137cm length when packed. I believe this should fit across the back seats of most cars (e.g. Corolla max width 176cm, so provided doors are under 39cm thick…..)

    My personal recommendation is to buy a quality canvas Oz Trail secondhand on gumtree for about this type of money.

    A good tent will last year 30+ years and it won’t be a sweatbox in the sun.

    I have the 8P version of this tent. It's quality. So simple to setup. Do yourself a favour and get a cheap sports bag or similar and put the tent fly in that - save yourself the frustration of trying to get everything back into the original bag.
