[Unobtainable Deal] Xiaomi 34" Curved 144hz VA 1440P Monitor ~ $417 + postage @ Tmall

Moved to Forum: Original Link

I can't read Chinese so I used google translate and followed these instructions: https://www.howtotao.com/buy-from-taobao/

Currently on sale from 2499RMB to 1999RMB, I used citibank plus card and was charged AUD 417.02. As of post, there is 350 in stock. Shopback currently 5% cashback.

You could consider using an agent like yoybuy.com. This allows you to pay by paypal if you so choose. I dont know what the postage is but some people have mentioned they have looked deeper into it and could be ~80 for ship freight and more for air. According to Yoybuy.com calculator, 82x671x30 18kg will cost a total of 361USD (~ 521AUD) delivered (this includes the product)

Mod: The original deal for $417 AUD Delivered is unobtainable, which most votes were based on. Deal moved to forums so discussions can continue. Also note as per guidelines that deals from overseas countries requiring shipping forwarder must have a final price.

  • Tempted. Can anyone confirm the legitmacy and reputation of this deal?

Ill let you know in a month.

May I ask which shipping method did you choose?

I only see two options of consolidation shipping: 66CNY/0.5KG via air, and 66CNY for the first 0.5kg, 5CNY per rest 0.5kg via ocean freight.

The first choice seems to be the default choice, which means you will be notified when the item arrives at the consolidation station, and then you have to pay the actual shipping fee. For this item, the shipping fee could be over 200 AUD. I would recommend consulting their CS team for confirmation.

I bought a GPU from Tmall last week, usually, it only takes up to 15 business days to Australia. But I was informed by their CS team member that it will take more than 20 business days due to the shortage of flights.

Comparing with Tmall, I think Joybuy is a better choice if you cannot read Chinese.

    • Couldn't read so took a punt on the second option for air. Joybuy is aud~900 though

      • +1

You need to pay the international shipping cost later, you choosen second one which is airway freight,so 8kg parcel about AU$205.

    • +3

I tried last month, the official consolidation station refused to take the monitor, maybe because of the size.

      • Thank you,So only can use option 1 :sea freight for same price but longer waiting?

    • This TV is oversized, the shipping fee for an oversize item via ocean is 360CNY (55AUD) I reckon.

You can use Google translate on this site but it doesn't help much 😅

I really need to look into how to order from Taobao. There are lots of cheap ITX cases to be had!

    • Google translate the browser, but you have to undo the translate to click certain links.

      • It's not always that straight forward, you can read heaps of posts about it on Reddit. Shipping methods seems to be the major gripe.

        • Well it’s because of all the restrictions that aren’t allowed to be shipped.

  • Is the deal over? The price is shown as 2999RMB now..

    • Same price has gone up :(

    • It's showing 1999 for me

    • I've got it showing as 2499RMB atm, strange since drew442 states its at 1999RMB

      • Says expires June 18th please hurry up as far as I can tell…

it's the same as this one, I believe. So you can check the Banggood page for better english

I for one, welcome our new overlords

4k 34 inch. Looks pretty good.

    • It's not 4K but most graphics cards will struggle to run at 4K for gaming anyway.

Offer still there if you access via your mobile phone

    • Looks like 2K instead of 4K

      • Sorry not interested any more if it is just 2k.

  • +1

This is a 2K monitor, and the shipment will not work due to its size. Due to covid 19 a majority of airway shipments have stopped, and the official container shipment options from Taobao prohibits from shipping electrical products to Australia due to different quality standards.

The only option would be to transit to a 3rd party container shipment agency and ship via China Post. Unfortunately it enforces the parcel to be below 20KG, and the sum of the three dimensions to be below 1200mm. The cost for 20KG shipment will be around 80 dollars.

That being said, I looked at all these options before I decided to buy from local.

    • What did you get?

      • LG 49WL95C-W, very expensive I know but it would be a good investment over the time I guess. I personally play very little games but code a lot, also need color accuracy due to my line of work so IPS may be a better option for me anyway.

        • How's the color accuracy like? I was tempted to buy this one on the sale but decide to hold it due to the size.

If it is worth than having 2 monitors… I'm in.

          • @moonphase: With LG I won't worry about it since it's IPS panel and it's from LG (same panel that's used in Dell 49 inch).

There are heaps of reviews about this. Out of the factory color accuracy is not top of the line comparing to the Dell but after tuning with a spider it's very accurate.

Unless 4k is your absolute requirement, or if budget is tight, I would definitely recommend a single monitor above two. Remember the 49 inch can easily be turned into three monitors side by side by software too.

The killer feature for me to buy the LG is the USB-C connection which can connect all auxilary connections with one single cable while being charged by the monitor. A soft switch can easily change between your home PC / work computer, or even half half.

However I have not received this monitor though. LG has a pre-ordering Queue in place to ship in early July. I am happy to share my experience after I receive the product.

    • +1

How did you get the $80 option to order? Even with $80 deliver, this still seems quite cheap

… Or where can you get this monitor delivered for cheaper?

  • +1

Op are you sure this will be shipped? In the link you provided that teaches you how to taobao it says you shouldn't order these things:

    1. Electronic device

    Humidifier,rice cooker,electric toy,vacuum cleaner,etc

Monitor seems to be the same category as above.

    • Yep it's prohibited because of our overly protective electrical standards.

      • I wonder if it’s just because they haven’t paid the fees and gone through the paperwork to get it approved for Aussie standards, rather than it not actually being able to pass. Hard to imagine it actually being because they lack safety features that are important.

        • I think it costs quite a fortune to get certified to comply with the OZ standards, and the safety certificate is PER SKU, not PER line of items. Some of the items Xiaomi sells here (switch boards etc) are items which they sell in massive volumes so getting a certificate probably makes sense, where it would make absolutely no sense to get certified for OZ before anywhere else in the world (US, EU) for some items which won't sell comparatively as much like the monitor.

  • How much did you pay for delivery? thx

  • +3

I found these specs on the carton:
    Package size: 82.3953.6125.53cm/32.4321.1010.05in
    Package weight: 4500g/158.73oz

    Prices ex-Guangzhou for shipping:
    https://imgur.com/a/fwwikYX

I might be able to get a bulk price for 5 or 10 if there's interest.

The weight seems light though. LG 34WL75C is 8KG just for the monitor and it's 12KG packed… I imagine the Xiaomi stand is not heavily weighted though.

    • Might be interested in one if you do buy bulk ?

      What would you price it?

      • I'm waiting on the shipping quote.

I'll need to factor in foreign brokerage, taxes and my time as well as the shipping to Australia.

I wouldn't be surprised if the ~$800 prices elsewhere are similar.

    • +1 Would also be very interested in one depending on postage cost.

  • Recently bought this monitor from Taobao from a different seller. The shipment was directed to an agent who charged a separate $70 transshipment fee to Australia.

    • Have you received it? I’m using a dell34 curved. Xiaomi’ 2k resolution is much more appealing and at a fraction of the cost to own a Dell

      • +1

Haven't received it yet. Expect to get it in 10-15 days if ETA is right. I would honestly advise against buying a monitor intentionally in retrospect, apparently the rate of >0 dead pixels is considerable and obviously there's no practical recourse. I'm crossing my fingers I get a good batch.

      • Received it. No issues, I think I got lucky overall though. Only 2 minor issues come to mind - (1) not height adjustable, I'll need to hook it up to a VESA arm, (2) it has an amazing picture in picture mode (like youtube, but with 2 display inputs) but in that mode it will ALWAYS stretch the smaller input to 21:9 which makes it unsuitable for say having a PS4 screen without having it stretched - for the full display it can change aspect ratios fine though.

    FYI, package details: 991x195x460mm, 10.39kg

  • Still showing the same price but ordering is dam hard. English website would increase there sale values. From the howto it does sound like this will potentially get rejected and getting the money back will be hard without speaking Chinese

  • Good luck buying Electronic stuff that directly shipped from this marketplace in case of any problem.

  • Apart from the obvious translation issues with ordering through OP's link, what do you guys reckon any recourse is for dead pixels/defective monitor? Just too much uncertainty for me to commit to pulling the trigger on this one (despite what a bargain price it is for that calibre of ultrawide).

  • I got a friend who speaks Chinese to ask the shop if it would ship directly to aus, she told me no but they can use a third party to assist in shipping to aus

    • +1

did you friend communicate with the same shop?

  • This hasnt expired yet. I just checked the website and still showing 1999rmb 300+ left. I did some searching and looks like you can use an agent like yoybuy.com. Anyone know how to contact a mod to take away the expired tag?

  • +2

Probably won't apply to most here, but most 3rd party shipping agents accept RMB via WeChat/Alipay with a Chinese bank account at no additional fees or exchange rates.
Luckily I left my Chinese bank account open when I went for my exchange program many years ago (foreigners just need a passport to open an account), I still keep it loaded via Western Union whenever a deal like this comes around on Taobao and Tmall.

Using this method it comes to approximately $420 for the monitor + $180 EMS shipping (there's cheaper via sea freight, but takes months), obviously no warranty/difficult to exchange, but seems to be far better spec'd than local offerings for the price.

These are the box dimensions/weight for those looking to have it shipped: https://imgur.com/a/zYzBvSO

From my understanding, Tmall is more like items sold and fulfilled by Amazon directly from brands, and Taobao is more like sold by 3rd party then fulfilled by Amazon or the eBay marketplace. So it should be fairly trustworthy, my main concern is just the reliability of the panel itself since it will be impossible to return.

The price is very tempting so I might take the dive.

    • +1

Thanks for checking that. Took a couple of days, my alipay finally went through and now waiting for item to be shipped to the consolidation location where I guess I'll be charged the 180ish postage. GL with yours.

      • How did you go bex000?

Mine hasn't shipped from the seller yet…

        • Mine hasn't shipped either :(

          Purchased on 10th of June.

        • Still not yet shipped, I clicked on the remind seller about shipping. Purchased 9/6/2020. I think the process is: shipped to consolidation facility, we get a final quote for shipping then we pay and it gets shipped…

  • Just letting you guys know, i've initiated a refund…

    • +1

turns out we are amateurs trying to buy stuff in China… It ain't like Australia. I've been reading, you should ask for photo of the stock etc… One day, buying from China / overseas will become so compelling, hopefully we get better at it and agents get cheaper…

      • I think they do have stock, as most tmall sales have. They just know you are buying from overseas, and official consolidation station will refuse to ship at current condition, to save themself from troubles, they dont want to send it. but at least they should let you know that they can not send to you.

        • perhaps they did but i cant read it because chrome didnt translate

  • The refund has just been accepted and processed. According to website ETA is 24hrs for refund and looks like I'm getting the fees back but not sure yet.

    • refund now processed, I somehow received $5 more
