100HZ VS 75HZ - Only for Work, Not Gaming?

Need help. FYI i dont know a thing about computers

Wanting a widescreen curved monitor for work at home

Came across this deal for a curved widescreen for $299
https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-30-curved-219-ultrawide-7…
Will post this as a deal shortly if you agree its a good deal

Which is really cheap imo but if we put it side by side with

https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-29-curved-219-ultrawide-1…

100hz $599

What would you choose? Is the 100hz a lot better? Is that the only diff?

Cheers

For a work/productivity monitor, resolution always trumps refresh rate. Go for a 3440x1440 monitor, you'll thank yourself for it.

  • The 100hz monitor is more for gaming and synchronizing frames per second of game with monitor. If it’s for work only 60hz is all you need.

For work only, Hz should not matter at all! even when gaming, it only matters in extremely competitive E-Sports!

Focus on better quality colors and get an IPS screen (nice blacks, no color distortion looking from different angles) and not VA (black is just gray, discoloration looking from various angles)!

Both of your monitors are VA, which is still OK, but it would be a crime to buy a VA panel in 2020 for work only ant not IPS!

Source: a friend who works in IT bought a VA panel 144Hz monitor for working from home. Asked me to show the difference, I showed him by playing some FPS games at 144FPS and 60FPS. He didn't notice any difference, but he was mad that my laptop's colors and blacks were more colorful and deep than his monitor's.

high hz matters when gaming and improves smoothness, yes it's advantageous in competition but is also more comfortable and better experience to view in causal gaming, less eye strain and motion sickness (very obvious in VR) as well. You must be one of those 'human eye can see over 60fps' people

No, I can actually see the difference up to 144FPS, but I don't feel it's beneficial and worth the extra cost. I can see it's usage where input lag needs to be minimized , especially on CS:GO, but there is no way an office guy will be enjoying moving his windows at 120FPS saying "look how smooth it is bro!".

I disagree with only this phrase. As long as it's gaming, it matters.

  • Resolution is far more important than Refresh rate. Most gamers have 60 Hz monitors and TVs. Only really competitive FPS gaming needs more than that.

Get an IPS monitor though, not VA panel for better colours and clarity working.

Also, don't support Kogan products. Their customer service is terrible if you ever have a problem. A monitor will last you years, worth getting something half-decent.

  • Both are designed for gaming with Freesync, but refresh rate is average (a good one is often 200Hz for gaming)
There should be slight difference between the 2 models. 100 Hz is definitely better in game motion and also in resolution. The 75 Hz one is a pre-sale so it should be at its promo price, plus delivery. The 100 Hz one will drop to a promo price any time soon if you can wait. My experience with Kogan is they drop prices to a promo price the same way as Coles and Woolworths does, e.g. some products at a time, then back to original price. I have quality, reliability and service issues with Kogan. The only good thing with Kogan maybe price, but there's never a real "deal" for Kogan.
I don't think you play game, but if you plan to, should watch and get the 100 Hz one when it's on sale. If you don't play game, better either get a cheaper one or a better IPS monitor with the same price range (for these, refresh rate may be just 60 Hz but they are designed for better display or colour).

  • Those who say HZ doesn't matter have never truly experienced it
The day i got my first 144hz monitor i learnt quickly that it's not just games that feels smoother, just moving the mouse around and doing normal things like web browsing feels insanely smoother and better.

It's really one of those things that is a once you go high refresh rate you will never want to go back.
I say this as a person who just last year got his first 144hz 27" monitor for a few hundred and just today bought this https://www.pccasegear.com/products/50437

If you have not experienced high refresh rates yet i'd say go for the 1440p version https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-34-wqhd-219-ultrawide-75h… at this size of a monitor 1080p wouldn't look very good and since you're budget is quite low for an Ultrawide.

if you didn't want an ultrawide there far better options.

    Thanks everyone!
Will look out for IPS, even if its a bit more $$

  • 144hz is very noticable compared to 75hz/60hz, haven't seen the 100hz screens tho
