I know some people don't like Kogan products, and I don't know much about this model in particular, but a 34" ultrawide is rarely this price, especially not at >60Hz and UWQHD resolution.

  • I hate them for not making atleast 120hz :(

    • Of course (Kogan) has monitors at least 120Hz.

End of the day it is supply and demand. They aren't being as bad as some people were.

At one point webcams and Ubiquiti UDM's were selling at almost double because 'EVERYONE NEEDED THEM.'

I expect the second hand market to be flooded soon with gear that is almost new.

          • @daven1985: Both of which would been shipped from china too. So supply would be down.

        • The 120hz model is much newer, they're probably selling the remaining stock of the 100hz one at a reduced price, and may stop stocking it eventually
Edit: nvm I thought this was the 100hz model, I don't think this will be replaced by the 120hz version

The Xiaomi 34inch 144hz monitor would be a better buy. It uses the same panel as the Samsung C34F791.

        • Interesting - how are the reviews on this?

        • +3

That's definitely a better product, but it's also double the price. There are tons of other options around that price point too.

          • @klaw81: Oh my comment was in reference to the Kogan 144hz version.

        • Where to go when it has issues. I buy a l bit from Ali but usually cheap stuff. Kogan after sales is apparently woeful but getting anything from Ali might prove… tricky ?

    • Yes, don't buy from kogan.

I already have a Kogan Freesync QHD 27" and it's been flawless from day 1.

I am not really considering this screen for gaming, but it would be terrific for office work

        • +1

I was pleasantly surprised by the last Kogan monitor I purchased.

32" 3840x2160 IPS for $339. Image quality is very good.

          • @Diji1: that sounds like an awesome deal, is it still available? which model?

One note worthy feature, its NON-curved. I don't think there are (m)any other non-curved monitors this size/res

I've had my curved 34" 21:9 for about 6months and thats one thing I don't like about it.

    • Is your curve that severe? I've had an x34 for a few years and the curve is so subtle

      • Its not bad, but the far edges look like they're floating, like a 3D effect and the image is floating in front of the screen. The right edge is especially bad/noticeable because that where the scroll bar is.

        • I'm honestly the opposite; I'm so used to the curve that going back to dual 24" at work is very much a disappointment.

Heck, at $449 you could always buy a flat one and resell your curved model for a profit!

  • Debating between the Kogan or whether I wait for another sale on the LG 34WL500. Thoughts?

  • +3

I would wait for this to drop to sub $400.

  • Can they make a curved version for us?

      • 2 x as much…

    • +6

Hack: Soak it in boiling water, then wrap it with ratchet strap and crank to the desired curve. Make sure in the beginning it curves the right way then your good as gold.

      • Rockfact

    • They had some pre-covid at $499 with Samsung panel. I hesitated and regretted since. Got an LG 4K 32" instead at same price.

  • +3

I'm soo keen to replace my 3 monitor set up with an ultrawide, but even a tiny amount of research shows basically all ultrawides in WQHD are way more expensive than they were pre-covid.

    • +1

Yep. Wait a few months. I think the seconds market will get flooded with people who don't need them now.

  • Thoughts on purchasing this for mostly university, office work and the occasional youtube/netflix? I'm currently using my Macbook Pro 2015 Retina and want to project it to a bigger screen for a productivity home set up and lower stress on my eyes and neck.

    • +2

I think it would be great for most productivity - my only reservation is the lack of curve (I didn't notice when i posted). Since this is a VA panel, the colours are more likely to visibly vary across the screen. But not a big deal if you're just doing spreadsheets, word processing, browser-based tasks.

For Netflix, it's just going to put black bars down the sides in fullscreen and I doubt you'll have a problem with variable colours with a narrower view.

The other issue is connectivity to your MacBook - you would need a dongle/dock to output to DisplayPort or HDMI.

    • Flat screen with VA panel might not be the best option? Just thinking, but don't have actual experience with one.

  • +1

I thought they had a 100hz version of this that regularly went down to $499 and irregularly to $449?
Did a refresh of monitors actually make this tier worse?

      COVID wfh apparently did it

    • there definitely was one. I hesitated and regretted since. Sold out a few weeks into Covid.

      • Ah that makes sense, definitely a good dual screen replacement option for WFH (and to pass quarantine time playing games too).
Hopefully it makes a comeback, i planned to eventually buy it.

    COVID / KOGAN

    Coincidence? I think not.

Would be decent at that price point with the 5% off discount if not for the 2560 x 1080 at 30" in my opinion

Thanks! I’ve been looking at the LG 25 flat panel ultrawide anyway. I’ll probably get this at 5%. I dont have much choice as all monitors have covid premium prices!

        • Keep in mind the difference in resolution might be more noticeable in the jump from 25" to 30" but guess it's down to personal preference. Yeah honestly the COVID premiums placed on monitors are still ridiculous since it's almost 3 months since the WFH began… Fingers crossed for an EOFY deal for a decently spec'd ultrawide before the end of the month

          • @sibyl: I have a 29" LG with the same specs as this that i got like 2+ years ago (for like $230, so covid is really doing some magic).
The resolution quality is essentially the same as a 24" 1080p screen. the extra 5" of width is the same quality, because you get the extra ~600 pixels across.

  • This or the XIAOMI posted for music production? I'll probably never game, big if. Mainly work station, and music.

  • Hi, i bought this monitor for my Macbook Pro 2016 and conencting it with a usbc-hdmi adaptor. For some reason, i'm stuck with a low 2560x1080 resolution and i can't scale it up to the native resolution. Has anyone seen this problem before and anyway to solve this? Thanks.

    • Just for future references, i solved this by buying a usb-c to displayport cable and thatthen finally can use in antive resolution (3440x1440). seems like HDMI at native resolution isn't supported by this monitor itself or the hdmi cable or usb-c hub i was using. Regardless too much hassle and just get a usb-c to displayport cable solved it.
